To be fucked off the neighbours use my drive constantly

crappymeal · 17/02/2025 16:13

My drive is big enough for about 3 cars if they squeeze on. We have a car which normally gets blocked in by the neighbours who use ours without asking.

It also means if we have visitors, they don't have anywhere to park and they have to find somewhere up the street although the roads are skinny and it's a bit of a nightmare (and I guess that's why they won't do it).

They usually get about 5 visitors a day and don't ask if they can use it first.

I wouldn't mind every now and then (which I have said before) but it's almost every day now and I think they're taking the piss.

I've tried speaking to them and they have said that the visitors don't stay for long so it doesn't matter?

No paper and pen needed.
You can use the edit on the photos app to draw if you have a iPhone? Just take a random photo, select the white thick pen first and scribble to make a blank page. Save it. Draw a diagram 😁

Do report this suspicious activity to police. Say, the other day I told the visitor to move and their face was completely blank, they looked at me with a vacant look, as if past me, and proceeded to that house, and then left, and they were probably in the state in which it is dangerous to drive. Something along these lines.

Drugs did cross my mind as well.

BettyBardMacDonald · 17/02/2025 16:16

Can you always keep a car parked at the base of the driveway so they can't access it?

Have you spoken to them?

I'd not tolerate it.

Clever

LookItsMeAgain · 17/02/2025 18:19

@crappymeal - you wrote "I've tried speaking to them and they have said that the visitors don't stay for long so it doesn't matter?"

It matters because it's not their driveway that they are parking on and they have no permission from the owners of the driveway they are parking on to park on that driveway.

It matters.

Put it to them that if they aren't using their cooker/appliance/barbeque/whatever, that you'll be making it available to anyone and everyone to use, because it doesn't matter. They aren't using it.

It's a child's answer to an adult situation.

I think that's going to be our only option but just think it's rude to do this.

You're worried that it's rude... to put a gate... on your own property?

OP I'm not sure exactly what this neighbour has said to you or why you're being so passive, but they appear to have you wrapped around their finger.

It's your driveway, not theirs. Why are you letting them treat you/ your property like this?

It seems odd they have ‘friend’ visiting for such a short time. I’m thinking they may be dealing drugs.

Yes that must it. Only possible explanation.
i suspect illegal immigrants and human trafficking involved also.
Probably on OnlyFans.

Followthetrend · 17/02/2025 18:22

I haven't RTFT but is it a shared drive,

What do the Deeds say?

I think that's going to be our only option but just think it's rude to do this.

Our absolutely revolting bullying NDN fuckers used to ask their deliveries and visitors to turn around on OUR driveway because they’d made such a hash of their own drive AND the access they own that it was impossible for anyone to use the turning circle

we got gates. And a post box.

it fucked their world

do it. You won’t regret it.

Noshowlomo · 17/02/2025 18:23

“It fucked their world”
I love that @MzHz everyone should have this attitude towards CFs

LookItsMeAgain · 17/02/2025 18:23

Forget about the driveway that goes along the side of your house - use that for plants unless you have guests coming to you.
You now only have the space where they are parking, so park in your driveway at whatever angle you want which will mean that they can't park there. Also as soon as the kids start playing in your driveway, move them along. Tell them to play on their own driveway or somewhere else.
Put your foot down and mean it!

Duckyfondant · 17/02/2025 18:24

Get fence/bollards but don't talk to them first. if they are anything like our neighbours, they will dump a banger of a car on the drive that you then legally can't block in. You can't tow other people's cars either.

Beebsta · 17/02/2025 18:25

Can you put up a no tresspassing sign that threatens to have anyone towed or clamped who parks on your private property without your express permission?

Yes, they are CF’s who are taking the piss. Tell them straight up that no-one is to park on your driveway.

Shade17 · 17/02/2025 18:25

BlunderMifflin · 17/02/2025 17:47

I don't know why people keep suggesting to call the police and/or get it towed! If this is the UK it's not a police matter and the police don't go around towing cars off people's driveways!

Absolutely this. It’s a civil matter and you will have to go to court to get permission to remove a car from private property. The only exception is if it’s blocking you in, the same legislation that makes it a criminal offence to clamp a car on private land also makes it an offence to block someone in.

Pedallleur · 17/02/2025 18:26

Sadly the neighbours aren't going to stop because you ask nicely. Just have those fold down metal bollards fitted. DO NOT tell the neighbours. You might find that they park their car in front of your drive as punishment so we are in the world of ringing the police to have their car towed. See the recent thread about this. As usual someone was nice and someone took the p**s

And what was your response to that? Please tell me you didn’t just walk away?!!

That was the point at which you should have said, ‘Let me be clear. You are not to park on my drive at all.’

JudgeJ · 17/02/2025 18:30

godmum56 · 17/02/2025 18:04

OP have you actually said "Stop using my drive"? Also have you told the footballing kids not to do it?

Edited

Some very strong weed killer in the drive should stop the horrors from trespassing, just tell their parents that you've done it so they need to keep them away for their safety.

ScarletWitchM · 17/02/2025 18:30

Either a gate or bollards that you lock in place. They are being rude by doing it. You’re not being rude by securing your space

Here's a hint, no need to use weedkiller, just say you did

Have you considered penguin bollards Grin. Yes, they are a thing!

dunkery · 17/02/2025 18:36

Could you try a post at the corners and chain across where they drive in ie: where you would put a fence or gate. I know you would have to hook and unhook it when you needed to get out or in but no worse than opening and closing a gate.

AlisonWhatIsTheMatter · 17/02/2025 18:38

I pressed YABU by mistake, OP!

Time to invest in a police stinger, roll it out and leave it out at all times! 😁

Joke of course but extremely tempting! The absolutely CFuckery going on here!

Gabbyflora · 17/02/2025 18:39

This can be annoying, unfortunately for me I don't have a drive but my next door neighbours new boyfriend has 2 vans and 8 cars. I don't know if he repairs cars or buys cars off people.
There are days when I come home tired from work and cannot find a place to park. It's become really difficult for us in the neighborhood but this has turned to deaf ears.
The annoying thing is they also have a disabled car park allocated to them so this is like 9 cars from just one house.

ilikemethewayiam · 17/02/2025 18:39

HeyIAmGlidingHere · 17/02/2025 16:22

You should never have given them an "in" in the first place by ever allowing it. The "now and then" has made them entitled.
You are now in the unfortunate position of having to halt it altogether because they have taken the piss. This is why we cannot have nice things.
It is the same as any favours that people become accustomed to. I am so sorry. Gate or bollards. What a pain.

Totally this^

As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Sad but true. Unfortunately this is the world we live in now. You do something nice for people and it just makes them entitled and you taken advantage of. I stopped these sort of things a long time back including giving lifts as it nearly always ended badly.

It's okay, if you press the other option your vote will change Grin

Thisisnotmyid · 17/02/2025 18:43

Honestly OP I’d just start majorly missing them off. Everytime they have a visitor I’d be out 5 minutes later asking them to move as you need out the house. I’d return 10 minutes later blocking said visitors in but then ‘go out’ for a massive walk with the dog (really hiding somewhere) so when the visitors want to leave it massively pisses them off and makes them wait.

I realise this probably isn’t ideal for you and means your up and about every 5 minutes but it’s either that or get a gate (which costs) for start messing about with pots etc which they can easily move.
