But in the mean time there isn’t and more people are being seen and waiting lists are reducing! Hoorah!

From a basis of an exceptionally unusual week and you celebrate that?!

It wasn't based on one week.

Plus waiting lists have reduced so that’s good, right?

I wonder what form these appointments take: how an appointment is defined.

I imagine the definition of appointment has been broadened to include a call from the receptionist telling you that your recent bloods were fine and there is no need for a follow up.

Before the election they clearly stated more hospital operations. Now it's watered down to appointments. How disappointing.

This is probably all being done in private hospitals at a cost of bazillions to the tax payer - and A and E seems to be worse than ever.

I think this is probably nearer the truth.

The data was compared against a time last year when junior doctor were on strike so pretty much invalid! You need like for like data to make true comparisons.

Some people are so unbelievably gullible and will believe all the lies Labour tell them without vigorous scrutiny.

And we know everyone believes Tory lies so…

So I don't believe Tory or Labour lies.

Not such that anyone on the ground has noticed and if Streeting keeps up his attack on GPs things are about to get a lot worse.

Waiting lists have reduced. It’s a fact. Aren’t you pleased about it?

Wasvular · 21/02/2025 21:21

It’s not because Labour have provided extra money or resources, they’ve just diverted money from hospitals to GPs. Hence one of the reasons there is an NHS recruitment freeze….

The 2 million appointments are hospital ones as far as I can see, so it’s not that. And waiting lists have dropped 4 months in a row. Are you happy about this?

redphonecase · 21/02/2025 21:57

😂 their spin is working if you actually believe that is happening in any meaningfully useful way.

Waiting lists have decreased every month for the last 4. That’s just a fact. Are you pleased about it? Or pissed off because you’d prefer sick people to wait forever than it be Labour who made some improvements?

I was referring to the post about resources moving to primary care.

Some people just can't let themselves be happy about it.

I'm unhappy that this thread seems to show so many people taking an obviously spun government announcement at face value. It doesn't speak well for the intellect, and ability to question our leaders, of the voting population.

It’s. A. Fact. Waiting. Lists. Have. Fallen.
You can argue some of the extra appointments are because of the end of the strike (but that was brought about by Labour anyway) but it’s a fact waiting lists have fallen for 4 months running. Not being able to accept that doesn’t speak well of the intellect of some posters (or their ability to question the record of the previous government).

Using the private sector to create the illusion of 'extra capacity' instead of investing in expanding NHS capacity.is not making 'improvements'. Anyone who believes this to be the case can have only the most limited understanding of the new agreement between Labour and the private sector and why this will fail.

Waiting lists are down. NHS capacity can’t be increased overnight. Do you want to allow lists to increase for the 7 years it takes to train more doctors or use the ones we already have?

Evilspiritgin · 22/02/2025 19:31

One of my colleagues waiting for a knee op has waited so long , they can’t do the original op (off the list) and she’s having to wait to get a new appointment to see the surgeon about a different op,

CaveMum · 22/02/2025 19:31

We already have plenty of medical students finishing uni, the problem is many of them are not being offered the necessary training places to complete their qualifications.

I write this sat with my elderly dad in A&E, we called an ambulance at 11.30 this morning when we suspected he might have had a stroke. We sat outside the hospital in the ambulance until 3pm and he has only now just been taken for a CT scan. The system is broken.

I wonder how many people have died waiting for appointments, I know of three people from my surgery who were fobbed off until it was too late

You clearly have no understanding whatsoever of the issue. It has nothing to do with 'training more doctors'.

So shorter lists are brilliant. That’s the whole point.
