so let’s see how other things progress and stop moaning.
it is good progress.

but I bet the Tories and réformatics can’t help but moan.

And yet waiting lists have fallen again too. It’s having some effect, clearly.

People have died waiting

So it’s excellent news that the lists are shorter then, yes?

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 20/02/2025 18:38

To be fair Starmer is doing more than you think, Petals.

Labour has published data showing that 18,987 people have been deported since the party entered government in July, the highest number in any six-month period since 2017, as it tries to show voters it is acting to tackle illegal immigration.

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 20/02/2025 18:40

PotsofPetals that is.

I'm not disagreeing btw, it isn't a sustainable situation.

Did you say what? I haven’t claimed you said anything at all. You said, rightly, that people have died on lists. I pointed out it was, therefore, a very good thing lists were getting a bit shorter.

So @cardibach how do you view the fact that so far this financial year, government borrowing has now reached £118.2bn – £11.6bn more than at the same point in the last financial year and the fourth-highest financial year-to-January borrowing since monthly records began in 1993?
Plus companies "slashing" jobs?

Well the financial year so far is divided between this govt and the last so not sure what it means. Things might get better or worse, might be in control of the govt or due to worldwide issues. Time will tell but in the meantime it is great that waiting lists are going down

What @TheignT said
Interesting that you want to talk about other stuff that you perceive as negative on a thread pointing out something positive. Almost looks like you have an agenda.

11.7 b MORE than this time last year which was previous government + fourth-highest financial year-to-January borrowing since monthly records began in 1993.

I mean everyone has an agenda. You do, just by creating this post.

No, I’m just wondering why you want to bring up debt on a thread about waiting lists. It’s a puzzle.

But half of it was the previous given ent - and we know they had paid and promised to pay stuff without budgeting for it, so I’m inclined to think they had some influence. Why bring it up on this post though?

Because it is pertinent to following on from other posts. I mean someone posted about deportation numbers, what had that got to do with waiting lists? Threads move on and frequently evolve from original OP.

they move on, but not usually to totally other topics. The same can be said of the deportation thing. Lots of people seem to want to divert any thread with positive news to other things that they consider negative. It’s getting boring and predictable now.

More about reality than negative but OK whatever.

And yet a poll the other day had him as most preferred as PM. He may be unpopular but everyone else is even more unpopular at the moment. Plus he doesn’t really need to worry about that for 4 years anyway.

He won't be the leader in 4 years.

Once again the previous govt were in power for part of this financial year. The financial year does not start in January.

The extra NHS appointments is great news isn't it. Aren't you pleased about that?

redphonecase · 21/02/2025 16:33

They used the week of dr strikes as the baseline, when appointments were massively down. So of course it's not a genuine increase.

We’ll see. He’s not particularly popular, but he’s still more popular than others (in all parties). He turned the Party round and got it re-elected when everyone said it would take a generation. Not seeing why they would want rid really.

The figures aren’t for a week.
And, yes. They fixed the strike so now more people can be seen. The Tories spent more on not fixing it than fixing it costs.

Well we don't know how much appointments were down, unless you have the figures. If appointments were down less than 2million then there is a genuine increase.

Maybe we should ask the BBC to fact check it, they are good at that. Can't remember the name of the presenter who does it.

I work in the NHS. I have a good idea of how many appointments were cancelled

Very short term. It was accepted to bank something but went nowhere near fixing long term pay erosion. Unless future year's deals are generous there will be more strikes soon.

But in the mean time there isn’t and more people are being seen and waiting lists are reducing! Hoorah!
