It's been eight years since the end of school and I'm not in contact with anyone anymore but AIBU for wanting a reunion to catch up/see how people are getting on etc?

Our 50th (eek!) is coming up in May. Don't fancy travelling to the UK for afternoon tea so will attend via Zoom. It's sobering to see how many of our year have died 😥

Chickoletta · 15/02/2025 21:07

I’ve been to a few and really love them. I was happy at school and have stayed in touch with lots of people.

PurBal · 15/02/2025 21:07

Independent or state? If independent school they'll be asking you for money...

I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon

A rusty one.

TourangaLeila · 15/02/2025 21:08

People tend to do that when they get old.

namechangeGOT · 15/02/2025 21:11

No, no and no again. I don't care what anyone is up to or how they are. I wasn't particularly bothered about 99% of people when I was there and I'm definitely not now!

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/02/2025 21:13

I've been to two. One after 20 years and one after 30 years. This year will be 40 years.
Our school has quite an active alumnae page on Facebook, a newsletter and website. We're all across the globe (it was a boarding school).

I’m team eye gouging here with a side of chewing my limbs off.

I was severely bullied at school by several of them and I have absolutely no interest in what they’re doing now. I just don’t care.

I'd throw in pulling my own teeth out as well, although admittedly that makes the chewing the limbs off harder. And you can't pull teeth out without limbs.

I'd better get back to the drawing board with this, I was always rubbish at sequencing!

Pancakeflipper · 15/02/2025 21:21

No.

Thankfully it transpires that school days were not the happiest times of my life.

Sadcafe · 15/02/2025 21:29

left many many years, they had a reunion about three years ago but I didn’t go. Not sure why if I’m honest , part of me would like to meet up with people I was good friends with at school, but then I think, other than the odd post on Facebook over the last few years, I’ve never kept in touch so why would i

tigger1001 · 15/02/2025 21:51

Good god no!!! People I haven't seen in 30 years - what on earth would we talk about? Didn't like a lot of them then and can't imagine that's changed.

If we wanted to stay in touch we would have

Ladyof2025 · 15/02/2025 22:00

Yes I would absolutely love to go to a school reunion.

Dramatic · 15/02/2025 22:04

Yeah I probably would, I quite enjoyed school and wouldn't mind catching up with some people I haven't seen in a good while

StrawberryWater · 15/02/2025 22:05

No!

I actually ran into my high school best friend recently and she was a complete and utter cow to me, really passive aggressive and nasty about the way I looked.

We never had a fall out or a bad word, we just went to different unis and grew apart. No idea what her issue is now. I think she thinks she's posh now or something, she's certainly snobby! Why she thinks I was scabby I don't know! I was in B&Q in my decorating clothes sure but I was clean and tidy. She seemed to take great offense. Strange woman.

As for the rest of them absolutely not! I was horribly bullied and my only other friend in school (who I did stay friends with) died a few years ago.

OnePearlFox · 15/02/2025 22:06

School, yes because lots still live around here (I moved back 2 years ago).

Uni, no.

Alleycat321 · 15/02/2025 22:07

So close to my primary school friends whom I met 55+ years ago and my secondary school friends whom I met 50+ years ago. See them regularly and find comfort from those who have gone through life’s challenges with me. Don’t need a school reunion as such but always pleased to catch up with other friends from time-to-time.

Waterboatlass · 15/02/2025 22:11

No thank you! Best of luck to everyone but I've zero interest. Couldn't wait to leave.

Itiswhysofew · 15/02/2025 22:12

What's really the point of them? School is over. Why would anyone want to return to it??

StormingNorman · 15/02/2025 22:12

I didn’t like my school mates when I was at school. I won’t be rushing to spend time with anyone now I’m not forced to spend 7 hours a day with them.

BlueSilverCats · 15/02/2025 22:14

Nope. I didn't like most of those people then, I definitely wouldn't now. Plus, I'm a very out of sight, out of mind person, so even the ones I was close to... it's been 18 years, I just don't care enough.

chelseahealyslips · 15/02/2025 22:17

Never in a million years. It'd be full of the fuckers people who bullied me and made my life a misery, probably still flouncing around thinking they're better than everyone else.

I'd rather paint my face with a shit covered stick.

Teenagerantruns · 15/02/2025 22:23

I went to our 30 anniversay of leaving 10 years ago, was enjoyable l didn't actually remember most people 🤣. Was a small year group about 40 l think, we are doing a 40th one this summer, we are all over the globe now, l will combine it with a weekend break in my old home country. We also have a Facebook and watsapp group that while not very active is still a way to stay in touch. I think about half the year are attending.
Our school no longer exists so we meet in a bar and have a meal then stay overnight in a hotel

Crazybaby123 · 15/02/2025 22:27

No, I couldn't stand a lot of people at school. Have kept in contact with all the people I did like and everyone else I have no interest in ever seeing again to the point it would give me a trauma response even being invited to a school reunion.

HellofromJohnCraven · 15/02/2025 22:42

Not for all the tea in China. There was one when we were all 40. Sent one of my group along to report back.
Exactly as you'd expect!
I'm still in touch with 8 of my school friends. That's plenty for me!
