You must be in a different North West to me!

… and me!

ThriveIn2025 · 13/02/2025 16:22

Finally a thread on this 😆 thank you OP.

I’m so tired of the cold. I’m so tired of wearing loads of layers. I’m so tired of blankets. I’m so tired of needing a hot drink. I’m so tired of cold feet and damp washing and needing to turn the lights on regardless of what time of day it is. I’m so tired of having the heating on and never feeling comfortable.

It’s really getting to me.

I'm in Kent and there's been plenty of sun. Lots of nice bright days walking the dog. A decent amount of rain too but not excessive.

Exactly me too

Exactly me too

Not in my part of Kent.

PuppyMonkey · 13/02/2025 16:42

I don’t mind winter, but this grey, boring weather with an unpleasant cold wind that we’ve had all week is horrible. My hair is also a frizzy mess. Shock

Iloveliono · 13/02/2025 16:43

It's too much. Why is it like this so much? I do not remember my childhood being like this at all.

CurlewKate · 13/02/2025 16:55

It's so incredibly dreich. Can't wait for spring.

Dreich is an brilliant word. Another of my favourites is glaikit (which means gormless). I had a Scottish boyfriend once and he taught me several good Gaelic words for things.

Every day in winter I daydream about emigrating to a sunnier climate 😅

Do the SAD lamps make a big difference? Often thought of getting one

I don't know for sure. I don't suffer with low mood (thankfully) my DH bought it to see if it helped his insomnia. Don't think it did much tbh. I just sit with it on for about 30 minutes. Feels nice. I had some bad fatigue last year and blood test showed very low vitamin d levels. So had that boosted and felt a lot better. It's very common apparently.

Shubbypubby · 13/02/2025 17:37

I'm in the North West and it's been a dreary grey wet windy stormy winter. There have been cold frosty snaps but they've been unpleasant as well.

Yorkshiredolls · 13/02/2025 17:37

Yanbu. West yorkshire, according to my solar panels app, the last time the sun broke though the clouds for a bit, was 6th Feb, a full
week of grey since then. So fed up of it.

User19876536484 · 13/02/2025 12:30

The sun was out all day last Thursday.

Not here. We had fog all day.

HollyBerryz · 13/02/2025 18:23

It has been excessively dull this year. Especially that foggy week or so over Christmas,

stargirl1701 · 13/02/2025 18:23

Spring comes as it always does on Greg Equinox which is some weeks away yet. It's definitely still Winter.

Moier · 13/02/2025 18:28

I think February is worse than January.
It's much much colder.
Least it's a shorter month and hopefully by March we might see signs of spring .
I've been lucky and been away to my villa in the Canaries .
I had the decorators in while l was away with the help of an interior designer I've come home to a stunning new living room .
Next time away I'll do same with my bedroom.
Made getting up to the grey days a tad more bareable .

EliosBackPack · 13/02/2025 18:29

South East here, East Sussex 20 miles from coast, been grey and cold for three days.

LaPalmaLlama · 13/02/2025 18:30

Don’t mind it this year- at least it’s been pretty dry. Last year was so wet.

jellycat · 13/02/2025 18:30

South East here. It’s definitely been excessively dull. We have solar panels and I can look back at how we did in previous years. From that I can see that Jan and Feb so far this year has been especially bad, although about the same as last year which was also very gloomy.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 13/02/2025 18:32

The fact that we’ve had no summer for 2 years doesn’t help either. Between the cost of living crisis, the crisis at work (Probation Service) and the weather, I’m completely done 😭.

RampantIvy · 13/02/2025 18:33

I'm on the eastern edge of the Pennines and it has been grey, misty and drizzly for ages, and it is really affecting my mood.

The damp is making the low temperatures (2 degrees) feel even colder, and I have no incentive to go outside for a brisk walk round the block.

XWKD · 13/02/2025 18:33

|'m in Ireland and it's nothing but grey misery. It's usually not much great, but it's particularly grim at the moment.

Pickingmyselfup · 13/02/2025 18:47

It's not the grey that bothers me, it's the cold and the rain! I need to feel some sun on my skin and not the chilled to the bone feeling that seems to be permanent at the moment 😭

unsync · 13/02/2025 18:57

Same, OP same. I use a blue light and take Vit D. At least the snowdrops are out and the early daffodils are making an appearance.

Fizbosshoes · 13/02/2025 19:03

Tagyoureit · 13/02/2025 13:51

But the early evenings are getting lighter! It's exciting stuff!!
Soon the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom, the big, heavy winter coats can be pushed to back of the wardrobe again and then we can complain it's too hot 🤣🤣

I don't recall there being any days at all last year where it got anywhere close to being too hot!!Confused
It barely broke 20° for most of the "summer"
I can probably count on one hand the days I used sunscreen and that included 5 days in Spain!

But agree that it is nice noticing the evening is a bit lighter. I whinge a lot when the clocks go back, I hate it , (and my family hate me whinging!🤣) but I do try and balace that by noticing and being positive when I notice it's still light at eg 4.45pm in January
