So sick of the endless grey weather

I'm so fed up of opening my curtains to grey. When is spring coming? Its so depressing.

cramptramp · 13/02/2025 12:20

No. I prefer it like this to the bright winter sunshine that hurts my eyes, even with sunglasses on.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/02/2025 12:28

We've had a week of 3-4⁰C gloom/ drizzle. There was a false alarm when there was 10 minutes of hazy sunshine but the error was rapidly fixed, the clouds reformed and gloom was restored.

I try to get out and notice the subtlties of nature's cycle but the rewards of snowdrop spotting aren't quite enough to counter the lengthy defrosting process afterwards.

Please let us have a proper spring this year... 🤞

User19876536484 · 13/02/2025 12:30

The sun was out all day last Thursday.

Serpentstooth · 13/02/2025 12:37

Correct user1987etc it was a beautiful spring like day. Just the one though.

Parker231 · 13/02/2025 13:12

Heavy snow here today but at least it’s just above freezing - although forecast-10 this weekend (Montreal)

QuestionableMouse · 13/02/2025 13:32

I actually recoiled this morning when I opened the curtains because there was blue sky and it was quite the shock 🤣

It's still hanging on - hopefully it lasts until after the school run because even though it's cold I feel so much better for seeing something other than grey clouds and drizzle.

Are you in Kent?

London

cheezncrackers · 13/02/2025 13:45

Spottyshirt · 13/02/2025 08:37

Whereabouts are you?

im south east and we often get lots of sun in winter

Just not this winter! It's been relentlessly grey where I am.

Tagyoureit · 13/02/2025 13:51

But the early evenings are getting lighter! It's exciting stuff!!
Soon the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom, the big, heavy winter coats can be pushed to back of the wardrobe again and then we can complain it's too hot 🤣🤣

ShushImTalking · 13/02/2025 08:43

Agree. Just switched on my SAD lamp, and taken my vitamin D. I'm in the SE, and we're due some 🌞 tomorrow 🤞

Do the SAD lamps make a big difference? Often thought of getting one

Crazycatlady79 · 13/02/2025 13:53

I was thinking this earlier, but in reality my town in North Somerset has only had one week of grey, drab weather (this week), although it feels like 127 years since I saw the sun!

Cattery · 13/02/2025 13:54

I quite enjoy the winter months x

babasaclover · 13/02/2025 13:55

I'm with you @Sadsister232. It is always a rough time of year but genuinely it feels like the longer period of grey ever.

We're a household full of cold and miserable and a bit of sun or even just seeing the blue sky would massively help the mood.

If you can get away somewhere sunny this time next year then I would recommend. I used to pre children

We were so fed up of grey skies we booked a last minute break in Egypt. It was perfect. Blue skies and sunshine. Only trouble is it’s still grey and miserable now we are back. Was lovely though. ☀️☀️☀️

We went to the Caribbean in January .
Absolutely gorgeous weather

MissFritton65 · 13/02/2025 14:04

@Sadsister232 I was going to say the same; I'm in Greater Manchester and it's been constantly grey!

My experience of Manchester is that it’s grey for most of the year!

Fizbosshoes · 13/02/2025 15:24

I hate it when I look out the window at 10am and it's like dusk because it's so grey and miserable.

Last year seemed to be grey for most of the year. We had shit weather on our (uk) summer holiday so booked to go away to Spain in October half term....and it rained nearly every day there as well!

Often these threads are full of people telling us either that we're imagining it, or persuading us that dull, rainy weather is really quite enjoyable. I can and do go out in rain, but weeks/months of it is really depressing!

Ace56 · 13/02/2025 08:47

We haven’t this winter though, let’s face it. A few days here and there.

yes, I agree. Where are those crisp winter days?

Hellskitchen24 · 13/02/2025 15:36

What are people actually expecting in February though? Meteorologically it’s still winter and we live in a wet, temperate climate. This is no different to any other year. Autumn and winter are wet, grey and miserable with the odd frost thrown in there. You get one sunny day followed by two weeks of drizzly grey shit. Then spring comes in, where it’s slightly warmer but still wet. Then it’s summer where you get maybe a week of good “holiday” weather in July if you are lucky which everyone moans about. Rains all summer holidays when the kids are off. Another week of good weather in September as soon as the kids go back. Rinse and repeat.

But last year was relentlessly grey, windy, rainy, cold and it really wasn't typical British weather. Im pretty sure, it was recorded as one of the wettest years on record.

I met some friends in June and it was dull, windy and 12°, in London. That really isn't normal June weather

SavageGarden23 · 13/02/2025 15:52

Back in my home country, today people are celebrating first day of Spring wearing festive yellows and oranges basking in glorius sunshine. Here I am ,in perpetual grey where 8 am and 4 pm daylight is same.Supposed to go to my birthday dinner but all I wanna do is curl up and die.

wherearemypastnames · 13/02/2025 15:59

People might expect more sunshine - 72 hrs on average for February - which would be 2 or 3 decent days each week

We had 3 minutes today and that's the first for a week or more

And it's been a grey old time for many months now

Could be chance

Although the chances are that the UK weather will get worse with climate change - 10% more rain already as a direct result and rain needs grey clouds ...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2025 16:05

So sick of grey grey grey. I'm in Worcestershire and I think we had a couple of hours of clear sky one day last week, and the next day with any forecast is Thursday next week. It's so depressing. Dark, grey, dark. On loop for months! It was like it last year until about June, I genuinely don't think I can take another year like that

wastingtimeonhere · 13/02/2025 16:16

Any meteorological people here explain why it's so grotty? Why aren't we having cold, crisp , clear winter days..why constant grey, damp yuck?
