I'm so fed up of opening my curtains to grey. When is spring coming? Its so depressing.

We were so fed up of grey skies we booked a last minute break in Egypt. It was perfect. Blue skies and sunshine. Only trouble is it’s still grey and miserable now we are back. Was lovely though. ☀️☀️☀️

Are you in Kent?

I'm in Kent and there's been plenty of sun. Lots of nice bright days walking the dog. A decent amount of rain too but not excessive.

GrandHighPoohbah · 13/02/2025 09:10

I think the phrase that best sums up February is "enough already". I try to take pleasure in the days getting longer by a couple of minutes each day, knowing where we're heading with that. I also put out a few spring ornaments to cheer things up.

Is booking a January holiday an option for you? I’m in Bangkok at the moment and did South America last year - gives me something to look forward to and a huge lift from the shite British weather.
i know i have to return to it (very soon actually) but I’ll have memories and photos and that’ll do me until our spring arrives. As a pp mentioned being in the south east we do get a fair bit of sun too

I'm currently in Sri Lanka flying home tomorrow. Dh and I made a pact to come away every Jan somewhere hot and this is our 2nd year. It's the only holiday we have all year and it breaks up the endless bloody winter. I also work most of Xmas so it's my treat to me. The endless grey in the UK is bloody miserable!

PitchOver · 13/02/2025 09:13

South west here. Depressing isn't it.

It seems to have dragged on and on for months and we've also had a lot of rain.

I really enjoy crisp/cold sunny with blue sky weather but we just don't seem to get much of it any more.

Spring will no doubt bring more rain and then we might get a couple of months of decent weather if we're lucky!

Saggyknickers · 13/02/2025 09:14

Mirrorxxx · 13/02/2025 08:40

It’s been blue skies for ages in the north west

Is this a joke?

Theunamedcat · 13/02/2025 09:15

I'm in the Midlands it's grey dull grey and dull bit of mizzle grey and dull we had sun one day briefly my fucking eyes BURNED then it went grey and dull again

My automatic headlights think that they need to be on in the middle of the day it's so GREY and DULL

I feel like I'm in a "neutral" house no colour just grey

blobby10 · 13/02/2025 09:17

South leicestershire here and yes I feel just the same! A couple of weeks ago when we had a few days of sub zero temperatures but clear blue skies and sunshine everyone was so much happier! I know its winter/February and this is normal but its not normal for so many months to be the same. we didn't even have a summer last year - yes it was warm enough for shorts until November but we didn't have much sunshine it was just this endless grey cloudy stuff.

Whereabouts are you?

im south east and we often get lots of sun in winter

Yeah not this winter though eh!

Discombobble · 13/02/2025 09:19

You’re in the wrong place! The Northern Isles have had glorious weather all week

Literallynoonecares · 13/02/2025 09:20

Its winter. To be honest I am just grateful that its not pissing down and blowing a gale. Will take the grey days over stormy crap any day of the week. For me, I don't mind it too much as at least its settled weather. No weather warnings and bullshit to have to navigate. But I am definitely looking forward to some more sunshine. There is nothing like blue skies and some sun on your face to lift your mood. ☀🌻

LavenderBlue19 · 13/02/2025 09:21

Yup. The solar lights came on when I walked past our shed yesterday, it was so gloomy. I think we've had one sunny day this month? And I felt so much better, so positive and cheerful.

It's meant to be sunny tomorrow, at least here in the south-east.

I'm in the SE and have only had 2 sunny days in the last months . I'm with you OP totally sick of this gloom

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/02/2025 09:37

It’s certainly been colder, wetter, and probably greyer than usual, but I do try not to let it affect me. Going for a walk and seeing small signs of spring perks me up - yesterday there was a huge clump of snowdrops in the grounds of the local hospital, plus a few crocuses, and lots of spring bulbs are coming up everywhere.

I tell myself that at least it’s better than severe drought and terrifying wildfires.

Kago2790 · 13/02/2025 09:45

Suits me, given the time of year I will take no/little rain and temperatures above freezing.

piscofrisco · 13/02/2025 10:36

I live in the SE and I work outside all day on a farm but supporting adults with Learning and physical Disabilities who come for day activities. I can confirm that since Jan 1st we have had at most 3 sunny ish work days. The rest has been grey, wet, grey windy, and grey but bloody cold. The mud is next level.
It's very hard to remain enthusiastic and to get the service users to be enthusiastic about the outdoor tasks as the weather does affect the mood (and it's at times uncomfortable to be wet and very cold). Even the animals are hiding in their sheds mostly. It's been quite grim and I'm also very over it.
On those few sunny days the mood on the farm was completely different-and lovely-so I'm very ready for more of that at this stage!

Dramatic · 13/02/2025 10:38

I'm in the NE, I think we had one day of sun last week and it was glorious! Now back to the constant grey 😫

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/02/2025 09:06

I’m on the south coast and it’s been unremittingly grey for weeks, apart from the odd few minutes of sun.

We moved in November and I want to see where the sun is in the new garden, so I can decide how to plan it. No chance.

You can use a compass to help, taking note of any tall buildings or trees. Obviously, south-facing will get the most sun, west-facing is good for sitting out in the evening, etc.

Same here; we went to Morocco.

RedRosie · 13/02/2025 10:52

I just try to embrace it, get out for a brisk walk and try to spot signs of spring! We saw many snowdrops last weekend (live in the SE but we were in Suffolk), and green shoots and buds.

yakamoza · 13/02/2025 11:09

I have just recently been saying exactly the same thing to my husband @Sadsister232 !

And it's not just this year. Most of last year was terrible: almost no sun in winter or spring. We hardly had few days in the summer and some in the autumn before dull and miserable weather came back for the winter again.
I genuinely feel that something isn't quite right with the weather lately. I know many people are going to say something along the lines of "We live in the UK. What did you expect?" but I disagree!

I know that UK is not Spain, Morocco or Turkey but what I seem to remember from the past is at least few cold but bright and sunny days in winter and those typically increasing starting from mid-Feb. Certainly a greater number of brighter sunny days in spring even if they were interrupted by rain and clouds. Although the summers have never been all consistently dry, sunny and warm, I also wouldn't say that most of them were dull and grey either. So something is definitely different about the recent weather and it's affecting not only how people feel but also the plants in my garden.

For example, last year my pear tree suddenly started flowering in late August! My plum trees haven't produced a single piece of fruit for 2 years now and they are not high maintenance. One half of another one of my trees lost half of its leaves. Some shrubs are also just inexplicably losing leaves but I don't see any insects, infections or anything else that would be damaging them. They just dry and fall off. Many normally easy going flowers fail to produce any flowers or have them but not in the numbers that would be typical for them. And so on, and on, and on...

I've definitely had enough of this weather too, and nobody can convince me that it's always been like this but I just somehow never noticed. 😞

Trousername · 13/02/2025 11:53

South West. The pattern here is to get one sunny blue day just to remind us of what life could be like, followed by 10 grey dull days. We also often get about an hour of brightness in the early morning before the cloud moves in for the rest of the day. I think what makes it worse is last year we didn't get a proper summer, just a few sunny days scattered about.
On the plus side, the evenings are getting lighter, let's hope we get a decent spring next month.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/02/2025 11:57

SW London and Surrey here. It's been as grey and damp for several months, for as long as I can remember and I'm 64!

Hoping for some bright, crisp late February days but fear the blossom will be late.

This. It’s winter 🤷‍♀️ I like seasons.

Serpentstooth · 13/02/2025 12:13

Its relentlessly grim 😣a close relative books 4 weeks on the Med every February, she can't face it. If I could afford it I'd probably do the same.
