To let dog poo in the street

AIBU to allow my dog to poo in the street?

We live near a field and DH usually takes our dog over there. He's going away for a few days so I will solely be walking the dog. My problem is I get very very anxious in the dark, can't see properly even with the torch and it really stresses me out. Like heart/head pounding. Previously I have walked the dog around the estate we live on and he poos on the pavement. Some houses have no front garden and I always feel very guilty as it's so close to their homes. I ALWAYS pick up but you know sometimes it's not perfect. I'm aware of lots of doorbell cameras to. My dog refuses to poo in our garden. So AIBU to allow my dog to poo in the street allowing me relax a little that I'm not offending anyone or do I need to wait until it's light. He is used to very early and late walks.

This is such a non-problem. You pick it up. What's the issue?

AnotherDayAnotherIdea · 08/02/2025 19:27

If you can get it in the gutter and still pick up, you will avoid leaving traces on the pavement.

Dearg · 08/02/2025 19:27

So be sure to continue to pick up. You could use it as an opportunity to direct him to the kerb/ gutter to ensure there is no residue 🤷🏻‍♀️

Onabench · 08/02/2025 19:30

Pick it up, no bother OP.

Overthebow · 08/02/2025 19:30

I don’t think it’s a problem if you make sure it’s all picked up. Maybe take a bottle of water to wash the pavement if you can’t get it all.

sprigatito · 08/02/2025 19:31

When you say it's "not perfect", what do you mean? Because you need to be removing all of it. If that's difficult, carry a bottle of water and something to scrape with. Unpleasant for you, but that's the choice you made when you got a dog. Most of us are absolutely pig sick of seeing dog shit everywhere and having to clean it off shoes and wheels.

coldcallerbaiter · 08/02/2025 19:31

No dog should poo on the street or a field, pickup or not. Picking up leaves remnants, it’s disgusting.
You don’t poo on the street and pick it up, so why should your dog? Dog nappies, or some other way that does not involve the public streets.
Grass fields and verges are just as bad.

How about you splat a dog poo on your face then pick it off, see if you still smell it - not completely gone has it…

Runningoutofthyme · 08/02/2025 19:33

Take a pack of anti bac wipes with you if there’s likely to be any residual

LostInAMist · 08/02/2025 19:34

I mean, it should be picked up in the field too, if it's grazed/used for hay/kids playing field, so it's a non issue. You can't always help when a dog decides to go, but it should always be picked up regardless! If it's "not perfect", like others have said, bottle of water to wash it off or maybe improve dog's diet to make it more pick up able

Ddakji · 08/02/2025 19:36

Bless you, OP. What do you think dog owners who live in towns and cities do?

Can you not just drag him to the field and encourage him to poo there- obviously picking up afterwards. Our Ddog makes a right old production of picking the perfect poo stop, so if it's somewhere I don't think is appropriate then I will just pull him on to a better place ( we do live near woods so it is easier, and yes I do always pick it up along with the leaves underneath).

Haha yes let’s put nappies on the foxes, birds, cats, squirrels too. If animals can’t behave like humans then why should they even be allowed on this planet that we are so diligently ruining.

SofaSpuds · 08/02/2025 19:50

Don't be a disgusting pig, pick up your dog's shit!!! 😠 😡

If you're bothered about it bring a water bottle and a sponge with you so if its a sloppy one you can still clean it up. I saw this recently on Instagram where people were knocking on ring door bells and saying sorry my dogs done a sloppy poo I'm coming back with bleach etc in a bit. I think that's a nice thing to do. Feels like these days so many dog owners don't pick up so I'm glad you do. And I don't blame you for not walking around a dark field on your own.

Why so drippy about the dark?

You need help @coldcallerbaiter ,

Hate to break it to you, but mammals have been shitting everywhere since the dawn of time, including humans .

'Dog nappies' are you insane ?

User67556 · 08/02/2025 19:54

TitusMoan · 08/02/2025 19:53

Why so drippy about the dark?

Because woman get attacked on a daily basis by men and walking around in a dark field on your own is just an unnecessary risk when there are alternatives. You're clearly male.

DilemmaDelilah · 08/02/2025 19:55

I used to walk a friend's dog. There wasn't a park or field to walk him in, so we walked down the street to a (scruffy) car park. He wouldn't 'go' unless he found a little bit of grass or plant material. Literally 3 blades of grass would do! If your dog is used to going on grass they may not want to go unless there is grass. Just making you aware!

pimplebum · 08/02/2025 19:55

Bottle of water to wash away residue

Or spray bottle with bit of washing up liquid

hire a dog walker ?

is your anxiety normal , do you need help. With it ?

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 08/02/2025 19:57

Can you get him to go in your garden instead if you’re scared of the dark? If he needs to go, surely he won’t just refuse

Snowmanscarf · 08/02/2025 19:58

All dogs poo on the pavement in my village and (most) owners pick the poo up.

surreywilds · 08/02/2025 19:58

OP, my dog does sturdy easy to pick up poo, if yours is doing runny poos, I suggest changing diet, its not normal.

It took a lot of trial and error to find the perfect balance for my dog, some dogs thrive on raw diet, I'd suggest a high quality kibble and keep going through brands until you find one the dog loves and produces 'neat poo😃
