Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

I agree it's a weird thing to do but there is a time and place for wearing them. Picking the kids up or shopping in the supermarket aren't the right places. I saw a couple in B& M the other day in matching dry robes they looked an absolute pair of tools.

Sorry, but once you've tried one you'll find it's the opposite! I'm finding fear and fewer outdoor occasions when I choose not to wear mine.
Trip up to London the other day and I really wanted the practicality and comfort of it (lots of walking and drizzly weather) but wore the nice smart Zara padded one. Gosh, the pockets were small and hood kept falling off in the wind

VoodooRajin · 09/02/2025 15:41

I thought they were a middle class status symbol because of the price tag

Could be plenty of things. I imagine mainly the comfort is why most people wear them, and once a tipping point of enough people who DGAF start wearing them then other people notice them and are converted. Bit like socks and sliders which I'm not ashamed to say I love for relief of my crippling foot pain

Deeperthantheocean · 09/02/2025 16:54

So many stupid sites like this, too easy to take photos of anyone doing anything now and mocking. I came across a 'red trouser wankers' one.

Loveumagenta · 09/02/2025 08:26

I’m going to have to call bullshit on that one!
What about people wearing big parkas, oversized hoodies, Oodies, big quilted winter coats - also a bunch of self conscious fatties???

Yes

jillycat72 · 09/02/2025 18:16

Well they would have had a field day in Sheffield todays loads of dry robes and other makes at the really cold swimming championships!

I love mine but had huge envy of the GB ice swimming teams Dry Robes the symbol on the back was amazing. Plenty of people had badges sewn on inside to celebrate their achievements long live the dry robes 😆

Loveumagenta · 09/02/2025 18:28

Bodenne · 09/02/2025 18:10

Yes

😅😅 really? If anything you’d think it’s the scrawny, boney people needing a big coat not the ones with natural padding…

Mumofyellows · 09/02/2025 18:43

I have horses and dogs and bought an equestrian branded big coat which looks like a Dry robe but is actually an incredibly waterproof and warm coat. The looks I have had wearing it! I accept it isn't the most flattering garment but when walking dogs before work, feeding horses in the pissing rain after work, or even on playground duty with my class because they all have SEND and can't cope with wet play inside it's an absolute game changer and I really don't care! I'm sure I'm on one of those pages though, it's not even a dry robe but I have looked on there and they aren't always branded coats they are snapping, and I seem to live in a hotspot for people being photographed 😱

SillyOldBucket · 10/02/2025 08:44

Ok, so having googled Dryrobe and looked at some of the Facebook pages, because I didn't have a clue what a Dryrobe was!, I really don't see what the big deal is. They look all right to me. I won't be buying one myself because I'm short and they are pretty expensive but they do look nice and cosy.

All this thread has done is make me want to be a dryrobe wanker 😳 Quite annoying as I don't actually need a new coat... but hate feeling restricted, so these sound perfect to me... therefore I'm going to have to get one 😫

Well I've done it... I've bought 1 😂 Managed to get the older version (only difference is a tiny squiggle next to the logo apparently) for £100 🎉

VoodooRajin · 10/02/2025 10:59

They're not cheap

AlwaysTimeForWine · 10/02/2025 11:55

I am a DRW and don’t live by the sea. I don’t give two shiny shits what people think.

My whole family, me included, play a competitive winter sport - hockey. We all wear them on the bench, or for warm up or after a match, when it’s been pissing down for 70 minutes, we’re freezing and drenched.

They go on easily over sports kit, keep your legs warm - important in the skorts we wear to play in.

As far as I’m concerned they are the best thing ever and people can post photos of me on the internet in them. Don’t care!!

Yes! You won’t regret it… mine’s 10years old and still like new…
despite being used as a tent, a picnic blanket, a dog blanket, emergency back seat blanket, a changing place for the kids in the rugby team, and of course 3 x a week post sea swims

If I worked out the price per wear if mine it’s by far the most economical thing I have ever bought!
Needed a jacket to go with a dress for a wedding in December - £110 for something I’m probably going to wear once a year, tops…
Cheaper brands are available… as good? It varies but a really good one will cost almost as much.

I'm now imagining the whole rugby team getting changed under your coat 😂

I hope I haven't built this up too much as I'm ridiculously excited about its arrival. As will the dog be when she gets an impromptu walk the minute it turns up 🙈

The good news for everybody else is that my purchase has almost certainly guaranteed lovely warm, dry weather for the foreseeable... although I might just be a proper wanker and wear it anyway 😳

constantlylactating · 10/02/2025 12:56

I'm a proud DRW, I can fit my baby in a sling inside mine 😂.

I live nowhere near the sea. But do you know what I do do? The bloody school run twice a day, in the pissing down rain, freezing my tatas off waiting for them to open the gate. That coat means me and the baby are toasty and dry, and I've got both hands free to wrangle the 5 year old and all his 'necessary' items he needs for school.

I will never look back.

I have just announced to my 8 year old that I'm getting a coat I can zip him up in too 😂 He absolutely hates watching his older brother's football games and is always trying to get in my puffa but it's not wide enough! He's off school sick but it did cheer him up somewhat!

Loveumagenta · 10/02/2025 13:20

I always bring mine to matches even when I’m not wearing it - I’m the coach - so the kids can either change in it or more often 2/3/4 at a time can snuggle under it on the subs bench.

Loveumagenta · 10/02/2025 13:22

I can also confirm that two tallish 13 year old girls can zip inside the Large size at the same time… DD and bezzie were matching up and down on the beach inside mine like conjoined twins last weekend!

MrsAvocet · 10/02/2025 13:27

I don't know why people get worked up over items being used for things other than their original purpose. That's been the way with sports and outdoor stuff for as long as I remember, either because it becomes fashionable or because people realise they're good for other stuff.I bet people used to make fun of those who wore "running shoes" to the shops, but there aren't many of us who don't own a pair of trainers now. Back in the late 70s/early 80s when I was at secondary school everyone wore Dunlop tennis shoes but hardly anyone played tennis! Same with the yachting and climbing/hiking brands that have become fashionable over the years. I sometimes wear my winter cycling jacket to walk to the village pub at night. I'm not on my bike, but it's hi vis and reflective and we have no pavements or streetlights here. I may be a cycling jacket wanker but I'm a visible, still alive cycling jacket wanker. Loads of stuff has uses outside its original purpose - I don't see the problem.

Wow... open water swimmer, rugby coach, human changing room and non judgemental over far more delicate people that just want to be warm and dry. What a woman you are 💪👏

Cyclists are another group that incite alot of negativity

One of the parents in amandaland wears one for the kids football

Loveumagenta · 10/02/2025 13:39

I might start going up to anyone wearing a football shirt NOT on a man actual pitch and shouting ‘ Football wanker!’ At them.
I’m mean £80 for a technical sports top that they aren’t even using to play the sport??? What a wanker. What’s wrong with a plain old M&S t-shirt. Mmm, mmmmm?????

Every other parent of our ( mostly working class. I promise! ) rugby team wear one, sometimes over another coat because it is fucking freezing standing for an hour in the wind and the rain on the side of the pitch watching the next Peter o’mahony take down the other 10 year olds…
