Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

I had to google dry robes …had never heard of them .

Crispynoodle · 08/02/2025 21:59

My adult daughter wears hers as a coat all the time. I only wear mine over my wetsuit we live fairly north and only 7 miles from the nearest beaches in all directions so we are allowed!

NotVeryFunny · 08/02/2025 22:22

I agree OP. I think it's a really fucking horrible bullying thing to do and it shouldn't be allowed. Apparently bullying is against guidelines on most SM sites but this is ok?!?

NotVeryFunny · 08/02/2025 22:24

Benjibas · 07/02/2025 16:05

There’s also a page for The Wolf Fleece Appreciation Society where they upload pictures of people wearing clothes with wolves on. It shouldn’t be allowed really. It’s mean.

Edited

Yes I've seen that one too. Equally vile and unpleasant.

Frequency · 08/02/2025 22:36

I also think it is mean, but I mostly don't understand it. Who decided it was okay to wear sports shoes, North Face and Canadian Goose, etc outside of their intended purpose and not DryRobes and why do they care so much?

I wear with to the school run and I couldn't give a sh!t.

TaterTots68 · 08/02/2025 23:08

I love my DR - it's great for when we're camping. But it's groups like that that make me feel more of a twat than usual when I wear it

Broody1976 · 09/02/2025 07:56

I love my dryrobe, I wear it a lot when we visit a specific much loved place for weekends/weeks by the sea. I am def a DRW though, I’ve not been in the sea for ages but wear it while walking the dog. I could t give too hoots what people think - my sister has one too & we laugh at the DRW page (while snuggled up in our cozy robes!)

In fact my sister got my some socks (similar to Adanola style) that say Dryeobe Wa*ker on them - I wear them with pride!!!

Bodenne · 09/02/2025 07:59

Any coat where it’s unique selling point is you can dry the dog with it s not chic.

Bodenne · 09/02/2025 08:01

Interesting that the OP has mentioned she’s lost lots of weight because I think it’s a coat that someone wears when they’re not comfortable in their own body.

it looks like a giant novelty bin bag, but you know if you like it -wear it, just don’t try to persuade us it looks good. 😗

BitOutOfPractice · 09/02/2025 08:10

It is a bit mean but it’s also very disingenuous to say they “target” women and children. There’s loads of blokes on there too.

I think they are a bold style (!) statement and sre Bound to attract comment / raised eyebrows.

2chocolateoranges · 09/02/2025 08:10

bluegreen89 · 08/02/2025 10:39

Because they’re towels with sleeves. That’s the whole point of them. Get a waterproof winter coat. People managed to stay warm and dry before dry robes existed. And yes agrees the logo is awful x

For working in an outdoor nursery they are much warmer than a winter coat, I can layer up under them, it gives me space to move about , crouch down and have fun with the children. Believe me I’ve tried a winter coat and it’s quite restricting when working wih children at ground level. Dry robes aren’t,

I’m going to have to call bullshit on that one!
What about people wearing big parkas, oversized hoodies, Oodies, big quilted winter coats - also a bunch of self conscious fatties???

Zanatdy · 09/02/2025 08:27

Really is ridiculous people go out of their way to post photos of people wearing them. A friend of mine has one, she goes camping / caravanning a lot so assume that’s why she got one. Only seen her wear it once for dog walk when it was particularly wet. Who cares really what people wear. I mean people wear gym clothes when not going near a gym, same thing.

Loveumagenta · 09/02/2025 08:38

I’m not trying to persuade anyone that anything looks good, I’m trying to keep warm and dry. About to walk to the sea now for a swim, presumably someone will think DRW! As I walk though the streets / might even pop in a shop for some snacks too - DRW in shop alert 😅😅😅

rainbowboymama · 09/02/2025 08:46

This particular FB page came up on my feed last year, and it did make me laugh initially. However, the more I looked at the page the more shocked and offended I became!!

I am a “DRW”, who lives nowhere near the sea and has zero interest in wild swimming. I do, however, have to walk the school run up to 6 times a day some days, whatever the weather! So I absolutely love mine as it is completely waterproof, unlike many ‘waterproof’ coats I’ve had in the past! And keeps my legs dry too.

I unfortunately offend pretty easily (snowflake, even before the snowflake phenomenon ☺️) so removed myself from the group (I joined as I thought it was lighthearted fun, but actually, a lot of them take it VERY seriously!). The extreme some of the members take it to is completely uncalled for; it’s nasty and unjustified! At the end of the day, it’s a very practical coat, so I don’t know why anyone has an issue with people wearing them, wherever they want to! 😤

There’s also a DR ( and other brands) appreciation grp - join that! It’s light hearted

Think it's a bit of a reach to assume everybody that wears them is trying to hide their body 🙄

Most people are wearing them out of practicality, some for "trend" reasons but nobody is thinking they look particularly flattering.

CellophaneFlower · 09/02/2025 09:00

And if they are being worn as a fashion thing - what a relief to have something that's comfortable, practical and wearable for everyone no matter what size you are.

A bit like uggs... not particularly flattering but bloody cosy, whether you've ever owned a surfboard or not 🙄😂

RavenhairedRachel · 09/02/2025 09:13

I agree it's a weird thing to do but there is a time and place for wearing them. Picking the kids up or shopping in the supermarket aren't the right places. I saw a couple in B& M the other day in matching dry robes they looked an absolute pair of tools.

SillyOldBucket · 09/02/2025 09:15

Am I the only person who had to Google Dry Robe? This is a new concept for me! Sorry very behind, will go back under my rock....

Same! So pleased to see its not just me. I have never heard of them nor noticed anyone wearing one. Maybe they are popular only in certain parts of the country

Says who? Who died and made you the fucking fashion queen???? Why can’t someone wear a big coat to pick up the kids?
you have no idea what that couple
are doing before or after being in the shop - gardening? Walking the dog?
are we supposed to bring 2 coats out so sad little wankers don’t judge a DR being worn somewhere other than the edge of a lake???

grumpy dry robe wearer in tesco yesterday
i noted her and her robe
she was not cheerful, perhaps she was on the look out for paparazzi

Did you photograph her, put her on social media, accuse her of being a ‘tool’ or put a ‘cheer up, love’ in there? Or perhaps comment in her size and suggest that she doesn’t do any exercise so doesn’t need a DR???
I hope not…
