Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

The wolf fleece fb page is essentially laughing at poor people who live in council houses and wear cheap clothing

again lots of agism sexism and ableism classism

bit sad that people need this in their lives

Because they’re towels with sleeves. That’s the whole point of them. Get a waterproof winter coat. People managed to stay warm and dry before dry robes existed. And yes agrees the logo is awful x

They're not towels though... they're fleece lined inside, like many coats. The oversized fit makes them comfy and means you can wear chunky jumpers etc if need be, therefore more practical than a lot of coats. Most winter coats aren't fully waterproof either.

I'd get the eyerolling if somebody was dog walking in thick mud wearing stilettos but don't get the judgement for wearing something practical.

I think its because of the middle class status thing, a bit like men on bikes wearing lycra

It’s not MC where We are but perhaps that’s because we’re a beach town.

pennyHD · 08/02/2025 11:40

Am I the only one who after reading this thread wants to get a Dryrobe to see if I end up on the FB group?

Fair enough, but I've onky ever seen middle class types wearing them, in both seaside towns and cities

There’s nothing middle class about men on bikes wearing Lycra. I wear Lycra to cycle because you have to if you are going to ride any distance, same as I do when I run.

Alconleigh · 08/02/2025 11:48

I was a huge fan of lookatmyfuckingredtrousers back in the day, so not sure this is anything new.

Mamils and cycling as a hobby are seen as middle class i thought

Maybe in some areas, it definitely got more MC is SW London after the 2012 Olympics, the price of bikes tripled! But generally where I’ve lived it’s been all classes and most of us have cycled for many years.
There is a certain type of man than MAMIL might reference but they are not the majority in my experience. Expensive bikes and no ability, all the gear no idea types. Sort of guy that probably plays golf too but take probably just my prejudice!

I think road Cycling is a fairly MC hobby though? And triathlon especially because it's pretty expensive

True that bike prices have gone mad. I wish I could afford a proper triathlon bike but I have to make do with my 15 year old Trek with clip on bars! Don’t get me started on running shoes, my last race set were nearly £300!!

Definitely. I’ve probably got 20k worth of bikes sat in my sheds. Some of my bikes are worth more than my car! Prices do seem to be dropping a bit though, some decent sales anyway. If I was to replace my carbon bike with a similar spec model I’d need to spend around 5k minimum I reckon.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 got for it. Hopefully the comments aren’t too bad, I don’t mind the ‘wanker/wankerette’ but but here is a lot of misogyny and bodyshaming too, some really nasty comment.
i bet the men - yes it is men saying these things- are middle-aged beer bellied slobs…

Audiprettier · 08/02/2025 18:21

I'd be concerned about deepfake!

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 08/02/2025 18:22

Unfortunately this happens a lot. Try finding out your normal office colleague takes photos of women's cleavage on the tube and other public places then posts them to a site where they're ranked.

The ones he was sharing in the office was of someone standing in the middle bit of the tube, really close and he must have been pretending to be on his phone.
Another of him standing in the isle bit and the lady sitting down.

Would have never guessed he'd be that sort. They hide in plain site!

MrsPositivity1 · 08/02/2025 18:48

Where does it say you can only wear them if swimming.

They are to keep you dry - whether that be after swimming, walking the dog in the rain, on sideline of a sport.

I have a cheaper £60 one. I do wear it after my Saturday swim but also walking the dog in the rain. Why would I buy a separate coat because some people don't like them.

I also wear jogging bottoms, but I don't jog. I wear a trainers - I'm not a runner.

Maybe these mockers need to take a long look at themselves and their horrible behaviour.

husbandcookingtonight · 08/02/2025 19:09

Best coat I've had for taking the dog out, especially when it is pouring down -mine is a Red Robe but same sort of thing really practical in horrible weather

Single50something · 08/02/2025 19:31

SecondMrsTanqueray · 07/02/2025 16:16

A woman in my office wears one. She actually looks like a mobile tent.

I think the ‘dry robe wanker’ thing is quite funny, like the ‘look at my fucking red trousers’ one.

I was going to say there is also a red trousers one..I half expect my dad fo appear 😀

Loveumagenta · 08/02/2025 19:48

‘Where does it say you can only wear them if swimming.’

no fucking where! Except in the tiny minds of little men

jillycat72 · 08/02/2025 19:57

I love mine. I have had mine for around 7or8 years now it’s one of the best things I have ever bought. I use it for open water swimming, SUP boarding, dog walking watching my boys play rugby. Have I worn it in the supermarket yes on occasions if coming straight from a swim. Have I worn them with flip flops or crocs you bet your life I have how else do I get in wet feet to my car

If some very sad people with nothing better in their lives want to take my photo then so be it! However taking photos of children is not on and gives me the creeps a bit

NippyNinjaCrab · 08/02/2025 20:12

I had no idea there was such a group and I'll probably be on it 😂 i have an Equidry for walking the dogs and when I'm finished my walk, i change out of my walking boots to my lovely lilac crocs!

NippyNinjaCrab · 08/02/2025 20:18

Wow that's a horrible group! Joined for 2 mins and left .

Rhaenys · 08/02/2025 20:23

They seem really practical, and don’t look especially ugly to me. I don’t get why so many people hate them.

who made you in charge?

I prefer a dry robe than a waterproof coat, who's asking for your opinion 😂
