Lucy Letby.....she might actually be innocent?!

I have just watched the full press conference and I'm blown away. There seems to be no actual evidence AT ALL that she killed or injured those babies. This could be one of the biggest miscarriages of justice there has ever been in this country.

I remember reading an article which showed that other babies had died too when she wasn’t there but they didn’t show those on the chart or something. It might have been part of the NYT article 🤔

Obviously some babies will die, the issue was the substantially higher number of deaths in comparison with previous time periods, many of which she was present at.

Briannaco · 04/02/2025 22:30

What about the note where she wrote

" I did it. I killed them".

?

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 22:31

I hope she can get the fair trial she deserves.

With all the media circus she’s never going to get a fairer trial than the two she’s already had.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 04/02/2025 22:31

We are all endangered by poor justice system.

Absolutely @Genevieva and we should all be worried that 'little people' like employees may be targeted to carry the can for large organizations failures.

@soupyspoon, I think when people are innocent, they dont think about how what they do looks like to others - because they are innocent. It does not cross their mind. Guilty people may be much more attuned to this. So I agree with you. For me, it was not Lucy Letbys actions that were odd - I know people get hung up on the journals but if anything I think that makes her look innocent - but she does seem to be socially odd, a little immature and that may be what made her the candidate to take the fall for what is going on. I am not saying she is not guilty - but I am very very concerned about the way everything went down, from the media coverage, the investigation and the trial.

Briannaco · 04/02/2025 22:31

Why did she write a note saying that she did kill them?

Avocando · 04/02/2025 22:33

soupyspoon · 04/02/2025 22:28

Humans are interested in other humans, its our nature. Facebook isnt private and if its private no one can see the pages anyway

It would be just as weird for the nurse who did your smear test to look you up.

It is against policy for a reason!

When you are in certain professions, the care you should provide and respect you show trumps your curiosity as a human ffs

@Dramatic Any legal counsel can find an "expert" in any trial to say whatever they like to fit their narrative.

There are a hundred examples of that online with a quick google search.

She's a baby killer. She was convicted beyond reasonable doubt.

Those poor parents having to read threads like this at baby killer sympathizers. Fucking shocking.

Trying to force facts to fit a prejudged hypothesis while bragging about never “losing” is exactly what the prosecution’s “expert” Dr Evans has been caught doing on other cases and why he has been barred from selling his services.

She wasn’t convicted beyond a reasonable doubt. There was no forensic evidence, no eye witnesses, no footage, nada.

Paul2023 · 04/02/2025 22:34

I’m amazed cctv cameras aren’t in baby units

I know one of the barristers on the case and he has told me there is absolutely no chance that she is innocent

Sure you do.

Mirabai · 04/02/2025 22:35

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 21:29

She had a very good defence barrister with a great track record

And a smallscale local solicitor with no track record of medico legal cases.

Dramatic · 04/02/2025 22:07

Ok, I have. Does that make me a murderer?

Not a murderer no, but your boundaries are questionable.

Yes I worked in the NHS once in administration.

I would never have dreamt of looking a patient up on Facebook !

Later on, I worked in an administration role for social workers. We had all manner of terrible family circumstances.

Again, i never ever looked any of the parents up on facebook

So everyone is working for free, not even having expenses paid? Has a Netflix crew been seen around?

I don’t know what you are trying to imply about Netflix. Afaik they have a documentary coming up.

It was made clear in the press conference that none of the 14 experts was paid and Dr Lee flew over at his own expense.

The nonsensical Thirlwall Inquiry continues to cost a bomb though.

LEWWW · 04/02/2025 22:36

I’m on the fence.

Apparently one of the key piece's of evidence was ‘many of the earlier incidents occurred overnight, but when Letby was put onto day shifts, the collapses and deaths began occurring in the day’ - how do you even explain that? Coincidence? Very unlikely- she falsified medical document notes and amended timings, would an innocent person do this? I also think having all those medical documents that she never should have had went against her, over 200 with the excuse ‘she likes to collect paper’?.

the evidence is circumstantial though…and she wasn’t on shift for half of the deaths, she could be completely innocent, being used as a scapegoat for a failing NHS trust, crazier things have happened.

The experts who wrote this report are preeminent in their field and are working for free. They're hardly dodgy "rent an expert".

I feel for the families but if a miscarriage of justice has taken place it is not in their interest to cover it up.

Ophy83 · 04/02/2025 22:36

VanCleefArpels · 04/02/2025 21:38

Haven’t read the whole thread (yet) so apologies if this has been raised but….

There was a spike in deaths entirely congruent with LL working pattern. If those deaths were all actually caused by deficiencies in care practices in the hospital (with no evidence that those practices have changed / improved) why have there been no deaths since LL was arrested?

The hospital was downgraded at the same time and no longer has such high risk babies

Nextdoor55 · 04/02/2025 22:36

I thought everyone knew she was innocent all along, it always seemed like a mess from the higher ups in her hospital, what a mess, if she is vindicated I hope they all lose their jobs, and their pensions. And the ridiculous prosecution, what a joke

SpiritAdder · 04/02/2025 22:36

Briannaco · 04/02/2025 22:30

What about the note where she wrote

" I did it. I killed them".

?

The full note was “I killed them because I’m not good enough”. This was not a confession of murder. This was something her therapist instructed her to write while she knew she had been accused of harming the babies. She felt perhaps she could have done better. She has always maintained her innocence.

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 22:36

soupyspoon · 04/02/2025 22:05

What sort of fury? What was she doing shouting, throwing things, crying?

IIRC sending obsessively angry texts to colleagues about not getting into nursery 4. Fury can be expressedd in many ways

Genevieva · 04/02/2025 22:37

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 22:31

I hope she can get the fair trial she deserves.

With all the media circus she’s never going to get a fairer trial than the two she’s already had.

She has had one trial and was denied an appeal. The request for an appear was brought last year after Dr Shoo Lee discovered, after the trial, that his research publications had been central to her conviction. He was naturally curious, so set about finding out more and was horrified to find that his work had been misunderstood and misused. At that point he contacted the defence team off his own back and offered to say as much in a request for an appeal. When the appeal was turned down he set about carrying out a more detailed look at each case to see whether his work had lead to an innocent nurse going to prison for life or whether the conviction was reasonable despite the misinterpretation of his research. Today's conference was the result of that investigation and the investigation of a dozen other pro bono experts from around the world. He even paid for his own flight and accommodation in the UK to attend today's conference because he doesn't want anyone to accuse him of being a bought witness. He is doing this because he is interested in the truth. Nothing else. Some of his findings show clear clinical negligence on the part of hospital consultants, one of whom appeared as a witness for the prosecution at her trial.

AlisonWhatIsTheMatter · 04/02/2025 22:37

There were SO many more notes found, one of which had this one line scrawled on them. The press focussed on this one line. There was so much more to the reason for the notes. This was LL’s inner thoughts, this was what she was feeling. She was told to write down her innermost thoughts by her therapist I believe?

FumingTRex · 04/02/2025 22:37

She was found guilty by a jury, that cannot be overturned by medical experts. There was lots of different evidence including her websearches, text messages and notes. Its not a medical question.

WeCanOnlyDoOurBest · 04/02/2025 22:38

Avocando · 04/02/2025 22:28

And actually sticking up for @JandamiHash a bit here, after the pile on.

There is research that suggests there is a racial bias within the criminal justice system. A lot of it is non intentional. A lot of people are quick to point out “people bring race into everything” but for a lot of people it the reality every day that they ARE treated in a certain way, however minor it may seem to be to someone outside of that experience. A lot of people say things like “I don’t see colour/I don’t care what they look like” but will be making subconscious judgements regardless.

you could argue that pretty or “normal looking” people of a certain demographic are more likely to be treated leniently by consequence. (I’m not completely in agreement with this)

However, I don’t believe that LL has been treated more leniently in this case.

Just to comment here re:
“you could argue that pretty or “normal looking” people of a certain demographic are more likely to be treated leniently by consequence. (I’m not completely in agreement with this)”
I’m older now, and still look ok, but when younger I stood out, and was very pretty with a model figure. Trust me, my life was hell in the office, I was either getting the come on from my boss, or excluded by my jealous female work colleagues.
My good looks certainly didn’t earn me any favours, and I doubt it would for LL as some people suggest, or the fact that she’s white!

Ophy83 · 04/02/2025 22:36

Yep, it was downgraded so only cared for later term & less poorly babies, the nursing staff to baby ratio was improved, more consultants were hired and the raw sewage seeping about was fixed.

Nextdoor55 · 04/02/2025 22:39

Briannaco · 04/02/2025 22:31

Why did she write a note saying that she did kill them?

That was part of her advised therapy, this is known now not to mean she killed them, only that she was being blamed for it
