How often do you have homemade soup?

Just curious. I am always thoroughly impressed with myself when I make soup instead of buying it. Feel like Martha Stewart especially if I have whacked the bread maker out.

Just curious how often people make soup? Growing up my parents literally never once made it.

We now definitely need to know your chicken soup family recipe Jasmin71? 😊

It's only passed down the female line and goes back about 200 years from Belgium. 🤣

I make soup a couple of times a month. I make a huge pot, have some that day then freeze the rest.
Lentil and bacon and leek and potato are my favourites.

Weekly

In winter at least once a fortnight.

Us too. I love a bowl of homemade lentil and carrot soup. It's even yummier when done in the slow cooker. DS and DH enjoy it too.

Twice a week. Kids have sportstraining in the evenings and we sometimes eat in 3 parties so must be something that is easy to reheat. Soup is ideal for that. And it is an easy way to let them eat vegetables.

ThoroughlyModernNotMillie · 02/02/2025 14:01

I have soup for lunch most days in autumn, winter and spring, so make it a couple of times a week
For those who have never made soup, what do you do with the carcass of a roast chicken or turkey, don't you ever make stock?

LouisvilleSlugger · 02/02/2025 14:02

I’m not much of a cook, but even I can knock up a broccoli and Stilton. Takes minutes.

bakebeans · 02/02/2025 14:03

I only ever make my own. Much cheaper and tastier.

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/02/2025 14:04

Maybe a couple of times a month in the winter. Should try to do it more often really as I love soup!

AncoraAmarena · 02/02/2025 14:04

Once a week or so. I never buy premade soup, it's so quick and easy to make (in a saucepan, i don't have a soup maker).

sprigatito · 02/02/2025 14:04

I am a huge soup fan, I make vats of it and freeze in portions. We eat it for dinner less frequently since my dad moved in with us, as he is underweight and needs bigger meals, but dh and I would have soup every night if we could. Currently in my freezer I have about 40 600ml pots of homemade soup - there's chicken and mushroom, tom yum chicken, squash/sweet potato/coconut/chilli, potato, leek and cheddar, broccoli and Stilton, and tarka dahl. I also make Scotch broth, mulligatawny, tomato and basil and chicken and sweetcorn. Have rarely met a soup I didn't like!

JMSA · 02/02/2025 14:05

Never. I'm not a massive soupy person anyway.

VeneziaJ · 02/02/2025 14:05

Virtually never. I have a few times but its a hassle and means washing the fiddley attachments on the blender something I do if its for a “proper meal” but I dont really like soup, and do not consider it a decent meal even with a bit of bread 😂

DaDaDaDaa · 02/02/2025 14:05

A couple of times a week at the moment! Starting buying a weekly local veg box and loving the variety and new inspiration!

Veg roasted in air fryer then add stock or coconut milk and a few extras then job done. Surprised how quick and simple and I do not have much time to spare for cooking!!!

IsawwhatIsaw · 02/02/2025 14:05

Most weeks. Often pea and onion, tomato, celery.
It’s so quick and easy to make. We always had tinned soup at home when I was young. I don’t buy it now.

RightOnTheEdge · 02/02/2025 14:05

Hardly ever, I should try to do it more.
We don't have many lunches at home though because the kids are at school and I get a free meal at work.
The kids never look very impressed with soup as an evening meal.

I should make more effort though because I really like a chicken and sweetcorn one someone posted on MN years ago and I love the ones out of the MN cook book.

ERthree · 02/02/2025 14:06

We have homemade soup every day. Sometimes i make a pot that will last us for 3 days or sometimes i make a huge pot and freeze it.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/02/2025 14:07

Most days in the Winter and about 3 x a week even in Summer

ImitationofBeing · 02/02/2025 14:07

Make a batch once a month, have it once a week at least for lunch (less if use it for evening meal for family)

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 02/02/2025 14:07

Once or twice a month.

tigger1001 · 02/02/2025 14:07

Several times a week in the winter, rarely in the summer.

It's such a quick, healthy lunch

sugarspiceandeverythingnice12 · 02/02/2025 14:08

Could we have some favourite soup recipes please?😀

VodkaCola · 02/02/2025 14:08

Most weekends. I'm going to make roasted red pepper soup later.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/02/2025 14:08

This time of year, most weeks - lots of cawl 😋

JaninaDuszejko · 02/02/2025 14:09

I grew upon a farm and my Mum makes soup every day for lunch. I make it sporadically, maybe once or twice a month, my kids aren't that fussed about it (this is very embarassing when we go home). I love soup for lunch and the canteen at work does delicious soups for £2 so on the days I don't have leftovers to take in I always have their soup. Means I make less at home though.
