How often do you have homemade soup?

Just curious. I am always thoroughly impressed with myself when I make soup instead of buying it. Feel like Martha Stewart especially if I have whacked the bread maker out.

Just curious how often people make soup? Growing up my parents literally never once made it.

Sporadically, I made a nice Thai butternut squash one this week and am eyeing up a celeriac that's lurking in the fridge for tomorrow!

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 02/02/2025 13:40

Three days a week, either tomato pepper or scotch broth.
Winter months only.

TomatoSandwiches · 02/02/2025 13:40

Between October and March I have homemade soup roughly 5 days a week sometimes more, it's so easy to do and really nutritious.
One of my younger sisters and I celebrate soup season starting every year and send each other new recipes we've found and pictures of our finished bowls.

Mightymoog · 02/02/2025 13:40

every weekday lunch.
make a big vat of it for 2 people on a Sunday.
Minestrone, spiced carrot and parsnip, chicken and sweetcorn.
This week's is chinese hot and sour which is just simmering and we have some chinese dumpling to put in it this week

Ooh, Thai butternut sounds good, that's given me some inspiration!

Pretty much every day - I make a batch every other day to last us 4 helpings. Easy way to eat more veg and a good cheap filling option for winter. Rarely use a recipe, just chuck in random veg, plus onions snd a few lentils 😋

ThinWomansBrain · 02/02/2025 13:42

I have a pile of soup recipe books - and almost always make the same lentil and vegetable soup. The variety is if I misjudge the amount of chilli - then I add yogurt to it.
A batch makes loads of portions and I like it for lunch at work - but I can slip into a routine of buying it from waitrose instead.

kezzykate · 02/02/2025 13:43

At least a couple of times a week. I have it for lunch in a flask - I find it healthy but really filling. I never buy pre made soup.

Chasingaces · 02/02/2025 13:44

@ThinWomansBrain yes - crushed chillis in all of them apart from mushroom which has garlic instead.

DonttouchthatLarry · 02/02/2025 13:44

I make about 8 portions to freeze and have it once or twice a week for lunch. Would make more if I had more freezer space.

Please can you share recipe. I have avoided lentils so far.

If anyone is interested in a good tomato soup recipe I really rate Davina McCalls. I add a bit of chilli and it is lovely. Easy too

Most winter weekends - sometimes as a use up the veg drawer melange and others from my long list of different ones. I can’t have dairy which cuts down on lots of shop options - sometimes see an interesting one in a shop and make my own version. Always welcome autumn as the beginning of soup season !

Jasmin71 · 02/02/2025 13:36

We make a family soup recipe every time we have had roast chicken. Once a month ish.

I always look forward to it. In winter especially.

We now definitely need to know your chicken soup family recipe Jasmin71? 😊

UnimaginableWindBird · 02/02/2025 13:45

One a week or so. It makes a good meal for those nights where everyone has activities that mean they eat at different times, and it's a nice simple winter work lunch, and a good way of using up old veg at the end off the week. DD isn't a big soup fan, though. I'll be making pea and pancetta soup tomorrow.

MsReacher2025 · 02/02/2025 13:45

Every week - several times. I make big batches of it every week using up any vegetables I have. Add lentils or chickpeas or butter beans from a can sometimes. And maybe cream if I have it. It takes maybe half an hour if I use the processor to chop.

Decant it into tubs, freeze some, have it every day for lunch. Costs pennies. Good for you as only veg, Marigold stock and maybe pulses - easy - and a better lunch that £5 shop-bought sandwich.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/02/2025 13:45

Two or three times a week most of the year.

Mahoosivesalad · 02/02/2025 13:46

Every week. I make a creamy, chunky chicken and veg soup in my slow cooker and make enough for the next day as well.

caringcarer · 02/02/2025 13:46

Every week. I have a soup maker and use it all the time. I rotate around winter vegetable soup, tomato and lentil soup and potato and leek.

Quinlan · 02/02/2025 13:46

Every week. I sometimes try to be creative with a new type but mostly cycle through the same ones. We like;
sweet potato, coconut and chill
plain old lentil
butternut sqaush with bacon/scallops on top

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 02/02/2025 13:46

Yes. My son is always hungry so I have one ready for after school to keep him going until dins. Curried spinac, lentil and lemon being prepped today.

Dramatic · 02/02/2025 13:47

Never.

gingercat02 · 02/02/2025 13:47

I make lentil soup most weeks, I have chicken turkey noodle soup made from the turkey stock in the freezer atm.
I'm not a fan of tinned soup, so homemade or fresh cartons usually. DH loves heinz soup.

CandyLeBonBon · 02/02/2025 13:47

Around 2-3x per week. I cook up stock after a roast and then make batches of soup to freeze for my lunches during the month

MaggieBsBoat · 02/02/2025 13:47

Once or twice a week. We have a big soup pot and then it covers lunches in thermos‘ for DH and kids or light evening meal.

Trufget · 02/02/2025 13:48

Does anyone happen to have the John Lewis morrocon chicken soup recipe? I found a copycat recipe years that I’ve always used but the webpage has recently gone down
