How often do you have homemade soup?

Just curious. I am always thoroughly impressed with myself when I make soup instead of buying it. Feel like Martha Stewart especially if I have whacked the bread maker out.

Just curious how often people make soup? Growing up my parents literally never once made it.

I'm in my late 40's and I've never made soup in my life!

You made me feel better, as I have not really done one either, well not completely liquidised especially as I don't have a blender etc.

Buttonless · 02/02/2025 13:49

Once or twice a week in winter, much less in summer.

Fibrous · 02/02/2025 13:49

Most days in winter, and sometimes a chilled soup in summer. We love a soup in this household.

it’s a great way to use the boring bits of our veg box.

arethereanyleftatall · 02/02/2025 13:49

Once a week. Butternut, red pepper, tomatoes. Batch made and a few in to the freezer for the rest of the week. It's dds favourite meal.

Daisymay2 · 02/02/2025 13:49

Make in bulk and freeze in portions. DS raids my stocks at the weekend, and I have some most weeks. Had soup daily in the winter when I was at work. Have a whole folder of receipt but Delias minestrone is still my favourite.

SaturdayKitchenSally · 02/02/2025 13:50

Four days a week. I make a couple of batches of it at the weekend.

MrsSethGecko · 02/02/2025 13:50

Every day for lunch, except Fridays when I have a tin of cream of tomato.

DelphiniumBlue · 02/02/2025 13:50

At least once a week in winter, sometimes twice.
Current faves are minestrone, spinach and potato, carrot, ginger and coconut, and of course tomato soup.

pointythings · 02/02/2025 13:50

At least once a fortnight. We love soup. My DD makes delicious flatbreads to go with it - just SR flour, Greek yogurt and a bit of salt, allow to sit, shape and fry in a dry pan.

lilytuckerpritchet · 02/02/2025 13:52

Most weeks, it's so easy. I love soup.

Batshit1234 · 02/02/2025 13:52

we always have a batch of soup on the go. I have never bought pre made soup in my life

Comedycook · 02/02/2025 13:52

My answer previously would have been never...but my DD has started requesting it every few weeks for dinner...she likes vegetable soup with sour dough bread. So I've started making it. It's pretty nice and easy and is a good way to use up random veg in the fridge.

AIBot · 02/02/2025 13:52

Every week.

Classics like leek and potato, or mixed veg with herbs.

Asian style noodle soups with a clear meat broth, meat, boiled egg, greens, ginger, coriander leaves and chilli. Think Wagamama style. Served as a main.

Blended soups like curried root vegetable with coconut milk.

I usually make soup on Sunday evening if we’ve had a roast dinner, I make stock from the carcass first. Depending on the type of soup, we have a big noodle soup as a main, or take it to work in a food flask for lunch. Very tasty and cheap for fairly minimal effort.

Thanks - I didn't know that making flatbread was so easy. I make soup about once a week.

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 02/02/2025 13:54

On average, every couple of weeks or so,depending on what ingredients I have available ;for instance, last week I served up a huge dish of Mediterranean roast veg as a side dish during a family get-together and made soup with the leftovers the next day. If I see packs of mixed vegetables on offer I'll buy a couple of those and make a large batch of soup;those pour 'n store freezer bags are ideal so I'll freeze part of the batch for another time.

PolarBear4788 · 02/02/2025 13:54

Make a batch every week and have it for lunch Monday to Friday. Either watercress, leak and potato, tomato, or mushroom and garlic. I always have a few pots of it in the freezer. Its so cheap, filling and good for you.

If we have a roast chicken, or with the turkey at Christmas, DHwill boil the carcass and we'll have chicken/turkey noodle soup the next day

PrincessBing · 02/02/2025 13:54

A few days a week most weeks through autumn-winter. Always on the look out for new recipes esp as we went a bit meaty this winter and I'd like some new veg recipes.

Soup is easy to make and keep. We have 2 microwavable soup cups for work days which makes it very easy.

TheSidewinderSleepsTonite · 02/02/2025 13:55

I do a slow cooker soup once or twice a week. But of the simplest kind...

Monka · 02/02/2025 13:55

Once a week, we rotate roasted tomato soup, cauliflower soup and broccoli soup. Need to be more adventurous in my soup making.

GrowingSideways · 02/02/2025 13:37

I have it a lot. Once a month or so I spend an afternoon making a few different soups to freeze and eat for lunches and sometimes dinner. I eat soup at least 4 times a week.

Me too!

Waterboatlass · 02/02/2025 13:55

Roughly weekly if you count daal. Cheap and easy. Fridge bottom surprise is my speciality.

I2amonlyhereforTheBeer · 02/02/2025 13:56

I grew up lucky enough to enjoy homemade soup weekly. So now I make my own roughly every week. Yesterday's version was roasted red pepper, with tomatoes, onion as a base, red lentils, garlic, red chilli and vege stock.

cardibach · 02/02/2025 13:56

Rarely. I like it, but it doesn't matter what I put in it in terms of protein and filling stuff, or how much bread I eat with it, I'm starving again in about 10 minutes.

Greygreencheckswithblue · 02/02/2025 13:56

Four or five times a week. We have a soup-maker but I often make it the classic way.

Dh and I work mainly from home now so we have our main meal at lunch and we just have a mug of soup in the evenings for weight loss and health reasons.

It’s funny how we are all different because I have always found soup really filling and can never have it as a starter in a restaurant because I then can’t eat the main course. I have a big appetite too and love my food.

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 02/02/2025 13:57

Once every couple of weeks. Usually vegetable, potato and leek, or lentil.
