I’m not sure what you mean OP can you clarify? Have you lost a work key?

betterchoices · 02/02/2025 12:16

maybe repost in non riddle format?

Butchyrestingface · 02/02/2025 12:17

I took 'key salary sacrifice' in the heading to mean 'important benefit in the form of salary sacrifice'.

No idea what 'replacing the key' refers to. Hopefully OP will be back to de-discombobulate us.

fiorentina · 02/02/2025 12:17

Do you mean you’ve lost a work key and they will take the replacement cost from your salary?
If that’s what’s in your contract then they have the right to do so, they may choose not to though. Have you exhausted all potential places it could be?

chargeitup · 02/02/2025 12:18

Nope. No idea what the post means.
You've lost a physical key?
The company has shut down? Or just closed for the weekend?
Salary sacrifice? What does this even mean?
What's your mum got to do with it?
Who has no money? You? Your mum? The company?
What's lost the key? You or your mum?

ChrisS36 · 02/02/2025 12:21

Assume you mean a saving scheme for salary sacrifice I would not worry the money will likely be held by the scheme provider.

IncaDove · 02/02/2025 12:27

Do you mean a digital key that allows you to access it? So like a PIN number?

Bagladygirl · 02/02/2025 12:44

Sorry I'm really stressed it's a car key for a car on salary sacrifice car scheme

So you've lost the key to your (company) car?

Bagladygirl · 02/02/2025 12:46

It's a lease car on a salary sacrifice scheme so it's a lease to me through the company

She will have to sort out a replacement key then just the same as she would if it was a car she had on finance. The company won’t pay for that though, she will have to. We had to do this a few years ago and it was about £300.

CerealPosterHere · 02/02/2025 12:47

I very much doubt they will replace the key, your mum will have to. Does she have a spare for now? You can normally get them done cheaper than the makes garage. So in my town there is a business called “the car key man” and he’s a lot cheaper. Shop around.

you will likely have to pay to replace it unless it’s in the contract that they replace them if lost. Usually though if it’s you whose lost it rather than it breaking then you’d pay for it.

IncaDove · 02/02/2025 12:47

In answer to your question, yes she will have to pay for a new key. It might be possible to claim on insurance though

Boysnme · 02/02/2025 12:48

I’m guessing you have a car (possibly EV?) paid for through the government salary sacrifice scheme and you’ve lost the key.

is it a lease car? If so just call the provider and ask them what to do. Do you not have a spare one or are you away from home while you have lost it?

on my scheme there’s an emergency assistance number I can call. Not sure if I’d be charged for it through.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 02/02/2025 12:48

Yes they will require reimbursement. Perhaps check if you took out lost key with your insurance.

Butchyrestingface · 02/02/2025 12:50

I take it it's YOUR key that has been lost, @Bagladygirl ? And the 'mum panicking as have no money' you refer to is yourself?

Just to clarify. Smile

comedycentral · 02/02/2025 12:56

You need to contact the fleet management scheme at your company and they will arrange to replace it for you. There might be a cost.

Seagullsandclouds · 02/02/2025 12:56

You have lost the key to your lease car.

Yes you will most likely have to pay for the replacement unless your insurance covers it (unfortunately unlikely).

The fact that it is paid for via salary sacrifice is irrelevant. The only caveat being that your insurance policy might be part of the package. Regardless of that, it is still just an insurance policy so you would need to check if they cover key loss.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that perhaps your insurance might cover it.

LIZS · 02/02/2025 13:02

Does insurance cover it?

ComtesseDeSpair · 02/02/2025 13:06

I imagine there’s a work policy around this, can you access the extranet / equivalent to read it? Nobody here can tell you whether your employer will replace the key. Some have an official policy to pay for one lost key replacement; others will do it as a goodwill gesture on an informal basis if they know you’re a diligent person and not a slob; others will always consider it your responsibility to cover the cost.

CluelessAboutBiology · 02/02/2025 13:14

At my old job I used to manage the company’s leased cars and you would have had to pay for a replacement. The leading company would arrange for the replacement key, they send the bill to the employer who would then deduct the cost from your salary. We used to do it £100 a month (or sometimes £50 if the employee said they couldn’t afford £100pm)
having said that, our leased cars always came with two keys. If, at the end of the lease, you turned the car with only one key, you would be recharged the cost of a replacement.

BeaAndBen · 02/02/2025 13:16

You lost the key to your leased car so yes, you will have to pay for another. Salary sacrifice is irrelevant.

biscuitsandbooks · 02/02/2025 13:19

It depends on your company policy.

Some might cover a replacement as a goodwill gesture, some will require you to pay, some may cover it with insurance. You'll just have to ask.

Don't panic (though I know it's easier said than done) - you won't be the first or the last to lose a key!

AwaitingFreedom · 02/02/2025 13:19

First of all can you replace it or does the company have to?
If you can, then check your house and car insurance as some have lost keys clauses but if your excess is more then you will have to pay it yourself (and this is the likely scenario).

Nearly everyone loses keys at some point so while it's not ideal, it's also not a sackable offence.
