Stop buying American goods after Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico

Stop buying American goods after Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

He says it’s because of phen and illegal immigration - less than 1% come from Canada.

This will have significant implications for the Canadian economy, the American economy and by domino the world. Not to mention the fact it could start a significant trade war.

The US doesn’t subsidise Canada - they buy Canadian goods. Approx 40% of their crude oil comes from Canada for example.

There is also an agreed trade deal between the US/Canada and Mexico that Trump agreed to and signed in his first years in office.

YABU - it doesn’t matter to me
YANBU - let’s stand up to a bully and support our allies

If it is OWNED by an American company, then the tariffs are set by America, where goods are actually made does not effect the tariffs.

Donald Trump’s tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China will deliver a $148.6bn (£116.6bn) blow to the American economy over the next year, according to economists.

Well if they stop giving billions of dollars to Musk then they can offset that. Probably end up saving themselves a shit load of money.

But they'll give a load of billionaires the chance to buy up a load of assets at rock-bottom prices so all is good, right? That's what really matters, enriching Elon.

Four greatest drops in the Stock Market in 50 years. Well done Trump!

My auntie in Canada buys Canadian grown veggies instead of American ones. It is very easy to do and does make a difference. There are lots of every day US products in Canadian stores, which the Canadians are boycotting.

It's not always easy though. I was in the supermarket yesterday, the origin of the apples on sale was 'Washington State/British Columbia'. Really unhelpful.

We as a country don’t buy a lot from the US but I will be looking into what I can do to reduce US consumption.

When prices of food, energy, goods, cars etc undoubtably sky rocket for US citizens it will all change although watch this space for the blame elsewhere when he will have to back track.

Well a good start would be slowly closing down the American candy stores in Oxford street to put an end to the desire for over priced sweets!!! Legalised crack for kids fgs!!

He has to have a hard line to stop illegal immigration so I'm fine with it.

What on earth are you talking about? The tariffs have nothing to do with illegal immigration. He said himself it's economic coercion to help him to annex Canada. You're fine with violating the sovereignty of other nations?

Arrr, bless. It's interesting how the original op post has gotten so diverse, which maybe is not a bad thing until it becomes judgmental. . I do understand more than most who comment on here and it's not an easy question/answer. Don't think ya know/understand. It's a very hard thing to do. As an ex....

I asked for an alternative to Netflix and they suggested Iplayer Itvx , Disney, Amazon Prime, etc so not much use.

We need to cut back on the use of X, Streaming services, amazon, and facebook. But I doubt people will do that.

Spotify is owned by a Swedish company and vinted owned by a ?Lithuanian.

He says the Mexico and Canadian tariffs are to stop flow of fentanyl. But suspect it is also brought in otherways too.

Most illegal immigration, by a huge margin, is from the USA to Canada. He should sanction America, if he's serious.

Mexico perhaps… though impoverishing the country through tariffs is hardly likely make it better able to stop fentanyl.

As for Canada, hardly any fentanyl comes across the border, and there’s more illegal migration from the USA than vice-versa!

Well the trans identified are not among the weak, they wield vast power which is used against anyone - and mostly women - who speaks against them.

Let the world burn because we side with the rapist and misogynist who grabs women by the pussy because he hates trans people. Lovely.

'Let the world burn because we side with the rapist and misogynist who grabs women by the pussy because he hates trans people. Lovely.'
@CovenOfCheeses at least Trump knows what a woman is and also is aware the majority of the US agrees with him and has thus protected women from having to share intimate space with men - because political expediency makes this an obvious target. We have got Trump because the Democrats prefer to pretend that men can be women and that some women can have a penis, and - this being so - men who say they are women can take part in all the things that are womens: their private spaces, refuges, sports, prizes, scholarships - and totally disregard the safeguarding of women and children. I am pretty sure I can see who is playing the Devil's tunes here - oddly, it's not the misogynist. Bad people can espouse good causes and good people espouse bad ones.

We have much bigger issues than whether someone knows what a woman is.

They used to be, but it was sold to Unilever, which is UK based.

To be honest it threw me as well as I expected B&J to be American and Haagen Daas to be European.

I see, they're still headquartered in Burlington though. Luckily a town near to me has an ice cream parlour (a proper, Italian-run one) that sells 2.5 litre tubs so I'll keep supporting them anyway.

I shan’t be boycotting Amazon. It employs thousands of people in the UK. Why should they pay for the American voters’ mistake?

Do you think that Amazon's fulfillment centre workers and drivers see much of the money you spend? If you spent it somewhere else the workers would probably be getting a bigger cut.
