Stop buying American goods after Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

He says it’s because of phen and illegal immigration - less than 1% come from Canada.

This will have significant implications for the Canadian economy, the American economy and by domino the world. Not to mention the fact it could start a significant trade war.

The US doesn’t subsidise Canada - they buy Canadian goods. Approx 40% of their crude oil comes from Canada for example.

There is also an agreed trade deal between the US/Canada and Mexico that Trump agreed to and signed in his first years in office.

More recently, Canada wanted to force hormone-treated beef on the UK market in last year's trade negotiations which is why we walked away. I'm not sure we owe Canada any special obligations on trade under Trudeau. We need to look out for our own interests which is why I disagree with the op's request.

Yup, breaking news this evening, he's paused the tariffs on both Canada and Mexico for a month.

From the BCC: "The cooling-down period comes after Mexico and Canada agreed to take measures to improve border security and clamp down on drug trafficking."

Not sure what's been agreed, but hey ho.

Basically everything that has been "agreed" by Canada was already announced back in December.

Can't help but notice that Trump caved within hours of Ontario cancelling one of Musk's contracts. Maybe Musk was unhappy and ordered Trump to stand down...

I can't imagine Trump being 'ordered' by anyone and this is why I wonder how long his bromance with Musk is really likely to last. The man has a pathology which renders him incapable of being subordinate to anyone.

I think we’ll see a break up. Both Musk and Trump like to be top dog.

But it is not just Musk, it’s all of the Project 2025 people on his team. Vance et al. Even Trump’s Press Secretary is Project 25.

Just watched a report that Trump has asked for 'rare earth deal' with Ukraine in exchange for American support. This will provide lithium to the 'US' ....or more likely for Musks batteries.

It gets funnier, the Canada agreement was already agreed in December and funnier still Mexicos agreement with trump is LESS than the prior agreement...so 15000 troops down to 10000 troops to the border! Mexico strengthened their border and took their criminals back so it worked and tariffs have been removed. Canada need to do the same and address cross border drugs trafficking. Then it will stop.
