To be really glad I don't live in America right now

AnonymousBleep · 31/01/2025 09:57

I really feel for ordinary Americans. It's bad enough on this side of the Channel, hearing daily about Trump's latest petty, spiteful, idiotic bullshit - that rant against the Bishop who asked him to have mercy on immigrants, the ridiculous and insulting attempt to blame 'diversity' for the plane crash - but living under it must be so much worse. And heaven help you if you're LGBT or a woman. Or an immigrant. Or not white. Or poor. Or anyone else Trump and his freakshow of a government despises. I moan about the UK all the time, like everyone else who lives here, because god knows it's far from perfect, but at least we don't have a government in charge who is trying to strip huge swathes of the population of their rights and citizenship.

Is that a yes or no to the proposed forced relocation of Gazans as Trump is recommended?

Don't be silly. I am saying the best thing for everybody is to accept reality and find a new solution. Going round in circles blowing each other up is not long term viable. Unless you think it is?

No. This is categorically wrong.

everybody. Even those with DSDs (which is the proper term, not intersex)

is 100% EITHER MALE OR FEMALE there is no in between. Sex is and is only every binary.

Which bits are categorically wrong?

Of course there is such a thing as intersex. It's well known in biology. Often in crustaceans and fish but also in mammals.
This body of biological study?

People who are intersex have genitals, chromosomes or reproductive organs that don't fit into a male/female sex binary. Their genitals might not match their reproductive organs, or they may have traits of both. Being intersex may be evident at birth, childhood, later in adulthood or never. Causes may be trisomy or may be developmental.

What about those with CAIS? XY but develop as females. Are they male or female? Do you propose they be surgically altered to make them align with their chromosomes, and not with their assigned gender at birth?

FYI I have an ancestor who was registered as a girl at birth (1871) but developed as a boy and went on to found a successful business and family.

How is he 100 times better than Harris?

He reinstated border control and I had no trust she’d do that. He even went so far as to rescind birthright citizenship, which he’d not even campaigned on.

I’m also pleased that he codified sex as male and female and has slashed DEI efforts federally. I’m also a ‘small government’ person so reducing the size and scope of the federal government is a welcome move.

Honestly, it’s been beyond my expectations. Gaza is perhaps the first misstep to me personally.

squidgie · 05/02/2025 12:08

RingoJuice · 05/02/2025 11:59

I just preferred Trump’s policies. Not exactly happy with Gaza but still preferable to Harris et al.

In fact I’m very optimistic for the future of my country.

OK then, good for you.

As for me, I'm worried about a potential future under Reform and the like here in the UK, with the NHS likely to be privatised, an increasingly hostile environment for immigrants, women and minorities, and life becoming harder and harder for those without significant means and privileges, such as minimum wage workers, housing becoming increasingly unaffordable, educational opportunities increasingly unequal etc etc.

If feels like we are living in a parallel universe. A sick parody. Trump is utterly reprehensible. How anyone can support or admire him is beyond me. He has no redeeming features. He is a dangerous creep.

Can you imagine a foreign power hosting a globally broadcast press conference and saying 'oh we will probably just go in and take LA. Rebuild it. It's a disaster over there. Awful. We will be asking Mexico and Canada to take in the Los Angelenos - get them a nice piece of land there. Build them something lovely out there. Yes we will be taking ownership of LA for the long term. What if the Los Angelenos want to come back? Why would they, it was horrible those fires and of course there will just be more fires so why would they want to come back? It's by the Ocean you know, we can make it real nice and global people can live there'.

Can you imagine how the Orange Shit Gibbon would react to that.

I am saying you are wrong all over.

Your ancestor was still either male or female, they never changed half way. People with DSDs are always male or female.

Intersex does not exist, as in, there is nobody in between the sexes. you re always one or the other regardless of chromosomes or DSDs.

People with CAIS are always MALE. People with Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (CAIS) are biologically male (XY) but develop a female-appearing body because their cells do not respond to androgens (male hormones).

Why should they? So they can have a better quality of life and not be blown up every 18 months, to be very frank. As I say, I'm on their side, I just think it's about time people were honest about the situation, just like Trump is.

What would you say if you were rendered stateless by a despot who wants to make money out of your homeland?

You can be a perpetual refugee in an era when every right wing thug is whipping up hate against refugees.

Would you Thank Trump for the opportunity?

Hamas is still holding Israeli hostages. God help them now.

Don’t be so ridiculous.

So funny! Yes he promised cheaper groceries but guess what with the tax cuts that Trump has given to the billionaires he has a deficit so that means tariffs, which will mean things will cost more for the average American. Elon’s wealth has increased to 154 billion under Trump. Meta, google and other corporations are benefiting from the huge tax cuts that ordinary Americans will have to fund. I hope that though keeps them warm at night when they can’t pay their bills.

What a total word salad. Makes no sense

I'm quite passionately anti zionist, and left leaning. But I have come to the conclusion that Israel is never going to go anywhere and so possibly the best thing to do is to move the Palestinians, who to be clear I think have a better claim to the land, to somewhere where they will not be perpetual victims of war. There will never be peace until someone moves, and Israel, backed by the US, is never going to is it.

You're someone who believes that Israel should not exist, but also think that Palestine should move so that Israel should exist. Right.

Also for all those people who claimed Trump was against the USA involving itself in foreign wars….

I KNOW! It was insane that they believe that in the first place. Trump wants his own American Empire. Starting with Gaza, apparently.

Countries forcibly settling other countries is the leading cause of war.

Exactly. Imagine if China was saying this about LA right now? They've got as much right to LA as America has to Gaza though.

I can't think the USA making blatant land grabs is going to go down particularly well with other global superpowers.

How has he reinstated border control?

How has he rescinded birth citizenship? Do you think an EO is sufficient to repeal the 14th amendment to the US constitution?

Ok he codified two sexes - what benefit does that have?

What do you think Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness initiatives mean at a federal level and why is their repeal a good thing?

How has he reduced the size and scope of the federal government? Specifically?

I wonder how many American lives he is willing to sacrifice supporting Israel’s desire for regional conquest.

And I wonder what support he will have from Americans in that decision.

So that’s a “yes” you support ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population from Gaza.

I am not being “silly” - I am clarifying what you are advocating.

For the record I absolutely do think nothing will get better until both Israel and Palestine accept the other side is going nowhere and until both stop behaving in ways that ensure the radicalisation of future generations.

But I will never support ethnic cleansing. Ever. And I think people who do are evil.

So a belief in a two state solution is “wildly unrealistic” but the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the colonisation of the land by the USA is realistic.

You cannot make asylum claims after illegally crossing the border anymore. That has cut down on the incentive to cross.

He made an executive order on birthright citizenship. It will go to SCOTUS ofc I’m hoping for a positive outcome (14th amendment was for slaves only—otherwise the 1924 Indian Citzenship Act would have been unnecessary)

I think it’s important to clarify bio men can never be considered as women.

I also think diversity for its own sake is not important. Only competence.

And he is paring down several government agencies and hopefully will shut down the Dept of Education.

Pretty much Gaza is the only head scratcher for me

Two state solution is seemingly unacceptable to Israel. Especially after October 7. How would you ever get them to agree to it?
