GMB reporting on liberation of Auschwitz (minus the Jews!)

I couldn’t see another thread on this but if there is, let me know.

AIBU to be absolutely outraged about the report on the liberation of Auschwitz of GMB without one mention of the fact they were Jewish people who were killed?

https://x.com/antisemitism/status/1883921202416345358

What the hell is going on in this country where we can’t even speak of the victims of the greatest atrocity ever taken place in this world?

Jews they were Jews.

Have you no shame. The camps were systematic, industrial death factories built to exterminate the Jewish people. There is absolutely no equivalence with a war started by Hamas. This is Holocaust inversion and is antisemitic.

The camps were not built for that purpose. They were around before as Labour enforcement camps and were as such including in the first years of the war.

Early 1940s people started being assessed as fit to work in the camps and those unfit were killed. Later on mobile then permanent gas chambers were installed as the Nazis wanted a quicker system of initially killing those they deemed not fit to work. ie women, children, disabled and elderly. By the point that the gas chambers were being designed it was to exterminate as many Jews as possible straight off the trains.

The camps were not initially built to only kill Jews

Jaxhog · 28/01/2025 19:35

I see that the Palestinian apologists have tried to take over a legitimate outrage about the holocaust. Why am I not surprised.

JHound · 28/01/2025 19:35

Halbiiamz · 28/01/2025 09:50

Exactly. But we are not doing that. We are allowing these horrific hate filled "pro-palestine" matches in our cities each week where cowardly people with their faces covered chant anti-Semitic phrases and wave terrorist flags and nothing seems to be done. We let hate camps be set up in university campuses making Jewish students unable to attend their classes. Even on this thread about the Jewish people being omitted from the holocaust we have people popping up with " but Palestine" which is not even nearly any sort of genocide but a war started by Gaza's government after the most horrific murder of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Never again is now and we must all speak up.

So you want these protests to be banned? What format of protest is acceptable to you for those concerned at the numbers of deaths and displacements in Gaza?

Edit: Ignore me. Solely because I want this thread to get back to topic.

I meant the gas chambers. I think you're being a bit pedantic, as it doesn't change the purpose and impact of the Nazi genocide. Which is the point.

But as I pointed out up thread the six million Jews were made up ENTIRELY of one ethnicity/religion. The 6 - 8 million were made up of many others including Romany , PoC, homosexuals, disabled people etc.

@Boomer55
6 million Jewish people were not killed in the Concentration camps.
I know it’s splitting hairs
but
The 6million killed is in Camps and everywhere else.
An estimate of 2.5 million Jewish people were killed in camps.

Agree the gas chambers.
Personally I think it’s good to get the facts right when referencing any historical fact so I don’t think it’s being pedantic ….

To all those who were killed in the camps before they started using gas chambers it’s not irrelevant as I believe they deserve remembering too.

Posters on MN were trying to say what Israel was doing in Gaza was like the Holocaust a couple of weeks after the 7th October massacre by Hamas, before the ground invasion of Gaza even.

Which shows that comparisons between Israel's actions and the Holocaust are not about accurate comparisons of scale and industrialisation of death but about using the Holocaust to attack the Jewish state, which is pretty grim.

SomethingFun · 28/01/2025 19:49

GMB - disgusting behaviour and absolutely on purpose. Every time the holocaust is mentioned someone has to say ‘it was Jews but it was also …’ which feels like the saying that everything before the but doesn’t matter. When as rightly pointed out every single person who was systematically murdered by the nazis was an individual human being.

Holocaust/ Gaza equivalencies are equally disgusting. Bit sick of the 6th form politics regarding the Middle East, it’s been a shit show for someone or another since the dawn of civilisation. Hamas I imagine are very grateful for the unwavering support of middle class British women.

Elon Musk is a prick and just goes where the wind blows.

I don’t know.
Just pre emptying a MN saying I am

ultimately millions of Jewish people were killed and perhaps it’s petty to discuss how in number terms. Whilst it’s the cold hard reality of the figures it does seem insensitive.

However.
Irrespective of the sensitivities the facts remain. It wasn’t 6 million in the camps. I just don’t understand why people can’t get the facts correct.

SharonEllis · 28/01/2025 19:52

AGovernmentOfLawsNotOfMen · 28/01/2025 19:48

But thats the point. Those of us who weren't being pedantic were remembering all the Jews murdered by the Nazis. It would be utterly bizarre to remember or not remember Jews depending on how they were killed. HMD is about remembering all Jews murdered by tbe Nazis. The HMD event I was at also remebered those murdered in the years before the war too.

I'm glad they did, because I didn't know that fact, and now I do. I'm never going to complain about finding out new facts!

Brilliantly put

Deetelves · 28/01/2025 19:59

There’s a genocide going on in Gaza. That doesn’t take away from any other genocides in history but there is a genocide in Palestine.

Exactly this. Its pure antisemitism. We could see it then. We see it now. Why @mnhq tolerates it is beyond me.

Agree
But historical fact is important or the truth gets blurred and ultimately lost.

Thats not being pedantic that’s sticking to facts to preserve history.

So I feel it’s important to state the camps were not built solely to exterminate Jews, it’s important to note that 6million Jews were not just killed in the Camps but everywhere.
Im sure for Jewish people and everyone who holds this period close as part of their personal family history it’s very important to get the facts correct.

Perhaps we need more people being pedantic so it’s not all lost in Chinese whispers

It’s not a genocide. If Israel wanted to genocide the Palestinians it would have been done by now.
It’s a legitimate war, thanks to Hamas.

Someonelookedatmypostinghistorysoichanged · 28/01/2025 20:08

It was not only Jews ! I am also outraged you don’t mention that.

Aftergloww · 28/01/2025 20:09

@HellsBalls thanks to Hamas? The displacement of Palestinians started long before the 7th of October. It’s just that now Israel has a convenient excuse to do it out in the open.

Convenient excuse? Do you mean the murder, rape and kidnappings of October 7th?

It was not just Jews!
The re writing of history began decades ago when other victim groups were not, and continue, to receive no mention, even on HMD.

Aftergloww · 28/01/2025 20:12

@Comedycook no, I mean that Israel has been attacking and displacing Palestinians one way or another for many, many years now. The hamas attack (which obviously shouldn’t have happened) just gave them a convenient excuse to be more openly aggressive.

But like I said earlier on, if you think the response has been appropriate and proportional… I don’t know what to say.

Shortshriftandlethal · 28/01/2025 20:17

Aftergloww · 28/01/2025 18:02

The only reason it’s not repeating itself yet is because Bibi can’t get away with it just as easily so he has to disguise it under “but terrorism!!”.

How and why do you think that right wing nationalism has arisen in Israel? Israel was founded on broadly socialist principles.

How many times have the Palestinian leadership turned down settlements and two state solutions over the decades? How many intifadas and campaigns of terrorism can any nation tolerate?

You do realise that words have meaning. War is not the exact same thing as genocide. Have you witnessed Israel transporting muslim arabs from around the Middle East into Gaza in cattle trucks - to especially designed gas chambers?

Israel is a modern, democratic country and all citizens have equal rights - and that includeds the 20% of the population that is Arab - Muslim. Everyone has the vote, can sit in the Knesset, and take up any role or profession in society.

Until Hamas and other extremist organisations cease with their jihadi campaign, israel will do what it has to do to secure its borders and defend its citizens. War aims are standard in any conflict but war in and of itself is not genocide.

If genocide is your main concern i take it you have a lot to say about what is going on in Sudan at present, or what has been going on in Northern syria, or any number of other places in the world?

Or maybe you are just on a bandwagon, and when that wagon departs so will you.
