AIBU to be absolutely outraged about the report on the liberation of Auschwitz of GMB without one mention of the fact they were Jewish people who were killed?

But as I pointed out up thread the six million Jews were made up ENTIRELY of one ethnicity/religion. The 6 - 8 million were made up of many others including Romany , PoC, homosexuals, disabled people etc.

Do tell, how should we describe the 10s of thousands of deaths of civilians, mostly children by Israeli bombs, not to mention 10s of thousands more left with life changing injuries? Membership of the Israeli Government have actually said that Palestinians should be cleared from their land, that other countries should take them, so Jewish settlers can take their land (they already harass, shoot and kill Palestinians to do so). Is objecting to this genocide what you call “fetishising Gaza”?

Please revert to the CITME board not this thread that is specifically about the Holocaust and GMB news anchor omitting the six million Jews in her bulletin yesterday.

Are you then saying that because of another Countries actions. These now homeless Jewish people had the right to go to Palestine and push the people settled there out their homes by force? Had the right to move the Palestinian farmers off the fertile land on to much less productive. Had the right to control water, power & trade by the Palestinians.

Let me give you a scenario. I live in Clacton and commute to London for work each day. For whatever reason I am thrown out of Clacton. I think to myself, 'y'know a house in central London would do me just right' and decide upon Kensington. You own a nice house in Kensington and I knock your door with gun in hand and tell you and your family to get out.

You complain to the local police and they say, no it is realitychecks friends who are in charge now, so off you go and move to Hackney. Then my mates turn off all the commuter buses and trains to Hackney also and tell you, no you cannot work in Central London no more.

Would you think that was a fair thing to happen?

The only reason the current Israeli government hasn’t wiped out all Palestinians yet is because they simply can’t get away with it and everything needs to be done in a roundabout way. Unless you think what’s been done to Gazans - especially countless children - as retaliation for the Hamas attack is acceptable and a proportional response.

Yes, the other groups targeted for extermination were much smaller, so naturally formed a much smaller part of the death toll.

The Nazis destroyed all but 3.5M (30-40%) of European Jewry. And they destroyed all but 25% of European Romani, but the numbers were much lower to begin with.

It's terrifying to think how close to success they came in both cases (of course, they could not have permanently wiped out homosexuals and disabled people).

I take your point, but was responding to a poster who was complaining that some people were “fetishising Gaza”. It’s hard to ignore that kind of comment when so many people world wide are so angry and distressed by what Israel is doing there.

No it isn't. The current state of play in the Middle East bears no similarity to the six years during which the Holocaust took place exterminating six million Jews and millions of other so-called undesirables (in Hitler's eyes)
There are no extermination camps now while there were 15000 in Europe in the 1930s and 1940s, many of them small localised ones, not just the larger extermination camps like Auschwitz.

Telling a particular ethnic group to go back to where they came from is racist under any circumstances, end of. Walking through the middle of a city where members of that group will likely see it is deliberately intimidating.

Deciding to come on a thread about the Holocaust on HMD to defend it is truly disgusting and frankly I don't know why @mnhq are fine with it.

Suggest you look at Nazi extermination camps before making a remark like this. Even better, perhaps go visit Auschwitz. Even the King knows what an extermination camp looks like rather than a war zone wasteland which sadly is what Gaza is.

Have you no shame. The camps were systematic, industrial death factories built to exterminate the Jewish people. There is absolutely no equivalence with a war started by Hamas. This is Holocaust inversion and is antisemitic.

The death of civilians is always horrible. But lets not forget that 6 MILLION JEWS died during the holocaust - a very different figure.

My opinion on the war in gaza is not relevant to a discussion about the Holocaust.

Are you equally horrified by the deaths of hundreds of children at a pop concert, and the kidnapping of over a thousand Israeli citizens? In ONE DAY?
