If they're crying. 'stop crying, you're fine'?

It's fine. They need to learn resilience. I feel sorry for parents of young kids these days that they feel they can't say things like this. Unless it's something serious of course!

1 year olds don’t need to learn resilience. Dear me. 😳

When my children hurt themselves and blood flowed I was more concerned about where the blood went.

Did you know that your own saliva takes out your own blood stains? You suck a piece of cotton or thread, get it very wet and rub it on the blood stain.

It works like magic, and the children are enthralled when you rub the blood stain with their spit and it is surprising how quickly they forget.

No I don’t think this ok . If you think about a time you’ve been crying (whether other people thought you should be or not !) if someone told you to stop would you be able to ?
To an adult what the child is crying about may seem trivial but to the child at the time it’s obviously not . What needs to be done is someone to acknowledge their upset and try to help them regulate their emotions through different methods eg doing an activity they find enjoyable / calming , taking some breaths . I wouldn’t tell an adult to stop crying so why would I tell a less emotionally mature child to ? If an adult was crying I’d try to comfort them so why wouldn’t you with a child ?

Yes. I've also told adults (and children) to stop in some circumstances and they've done so.

It takes a minute but a reminder of some sort to focus on other things can be quite effective.

^^ Re the above - Obviously I’m not saying it’s a good thing to tell people to stop crying in all circumstances. I’m just countering the suggestion that people can’t possibly stop crying if they’re asked to.

Seriously shocked at the number of people who think this is OK given the OP's context. WTAF!
