AIBu to think "Traitors" is horrible?

I do not live in the UK, have no access to BBC media but my mum seems to be quite caught up in it. Apparently it's the grand final tonight.

I've watched the trailer on youtube but it just seems horrible. The information I've got from my mum is a bit garbled but wasn't there a woman vicar on it?

I don't want to sound like, "Outraged of Tumbridge Wells" but...

My mum was yakking on on about lying in a coffin, talking dolls, tarot cards...

I thought it was more like Taskmaster.

It all seems a bit rum to me. It's like, "Eyes Wide Shut" meets "Squid Game."

AIBU "It's just a bit of fun, stop clutching your pearls."
AINBU. "It’s horrible and I get mixed up between Davina McCall and Claudia Winkleman."

Re - the Anglican priest thing.

I was enthusiastically discussing The Traitors in church the other day with 7 or 8 church-goers, the church warden and the Priest. We all love it and no one, including our priest, thinks there's anything at all wrong with Lisa being on it.

It's a GAME. The rules of the GAME are to lie and decieve. You are not ACTUALLY lying to people, they know full well that lying is a part of it and they are all up for it. They want to play. Every one of them would have taken on the traitor role if picked.

It's like saying actors are lying. Bloody ridiculous.

What a funny thread. Are you on a wind-up OP?

I've really enjoyed it. Claudia is an icon. I love the whole setting - the castle is stunning and all the panoramic shots of the countryside. Very atmospheric! The whole production is key to the drama and overall appeal, I think, though I am surprised it's sunny weather so often (not my experience whenever I've been to Scotland). Anyway, I hope the castle is a hotel or something - we want to stay there. If not, I want to do some version of a murder-mystery party of my own now - any ideas for a venue?

There is no occult OP - it's just the BBC fgs. The players all take part in good humour. It's the one show I can watch with all my teens and we all love it. Really good fun and I wish there were more shows like it. My daughter has signed me up!

Just watch it yourself OP and be done with it - there are three seasons in fact.

Also I vote to banish whoever it was that mentioned Davina McCall on this thread. Nothing against her personally and her "zany" ott-ness works fine on The Masked Singer but Claudia and her understated, deadpan one liners are what make The Traitors IMO.

Agree. I don't enjoy the US version with "reality stars" and Alan Cumming hamming it up nearly so much, even though the setting, game and tasks are just the same.

I like that Claudia flies the flag for 50 year old women! And everyone respects her likes yet is slightly scared of her. Goals - as my teens would say.!

😂 maybe just watch it.

It's basically a slightly camp, extended parlour game. I don't like reality TV as a rule but I love it. The people on it seem, for the most part, nice as well.

Edited

This. I love The Traitors. I usually hate reality TV but there's something about it.

The other thing I like is that people’s looks are quite irrelevant. I really like that. It’s what you’re like that matters. Old / young / conventionally good looking and less so. If you’re a good sport and sing a song backwards you’re in.

Years ago when "South Park" started my son was telling me about it and I thought it sounded horrendous! A little boy dying in a different way each episode and the others shouting "They've killed Kenny"? Then I watched it and it was, well not much good, but not horrible or scary. My point being, you can't judge from the description. Having said that, those dolls...

I feel weird as I hate it. I watched a few episodes of season 1 and just couldn’t get into it. It seemed stupidly over-dramatic and I hated the fact it was about lying and deceiving, even as a game. I’m neurodivergent and also have trauma around being manipulated and lied to, so maybe that’s it. I just couldn’t enjoy it. But I haven’t met anyone else who feels the same way, so I must be a real outlier.

Yes! Good point. Normal people, not wax faced wannabees like on MAFS.
