AIBu to think "Traitors" is horrible?

I do not live in the UK, have no access to BBC media but my mum seems to be quite caught up in it. Apparently it's the grand final tonight.

I've watched the trailer on youtube but it just seems horrible. The information I've got from my mum is a bit garbled but wasn't there a woman vicar on it?

I don't want to sound like, "Outraged of Tumbridge Wells" but...

My mum was yakking on on about lying in a coffin, talking dolls, tarot cards...

I thought it was more like Taskmaster.

It all seems a bit rum to me. It's like, "Eyes Wide Shut" meets "Squid Game."

AIBU "It's just a bit of fun, stop clutching your pearls."
AINBU. "It’s horrible and I get mixed up between Davina McCall and Claudia Winkleman."

Well, I'm being unreasonable then. Let me know who wins. Point taken.

Ask your mum.

Alltheyellowbirds · 24/01/2025 19:41

It couldn’t be less like Eyes Wide Shut or Squid Games if it tried…

PixieandDelilahsmum · 24/01/2025 19:41

YABU, it’s ’Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells’.

It’s a very addictive show OP!

Serencwtch · 24/01/2025 19:43

I'm totally gripped by it 😂

It's more like taskmaster I suppose, definitely not squid game at all.

It's basically trash but very enjoyable.

Excited for the final!

5foot5 · 24/01/2025 19:45

This is the first series I have watched but there seemed to be so much hype and excitement for this series I decided to give it a go.

I have found it compelling viewing and am very much looking forward to the final tonight. In these days of streaming TV it is refreshing to find there are still "water cooler" programmes that everyone want to talk about.

From your posts OP it sounds like you really don't have the first idea what it is about. Maybe your DM is bad at explaining, who knows.

Anyway, it isn't in the least horrible and I will be glued to the TV from 8:30 tonight

monsterfish · 24/01/2025 19:45

Its fun, there is a bit of intelligence behind it and provides an interesting take on human behaviour. Right now it is really enjoyable and so far not been filled by a bunch of love island wannabes or instagrammers like Big Brother (which was good for the first 3 series then went downhill rapidly).

goldmywrath · 24/01/2025 19:45

I've not watched it but I know who the traitor is as I've got insider info, so I won't be watching it anyway.

RedToothBrush · 24/01/2025 19:47

KnopkaPixie · 24/01/2025 19:36

I know it's an extended parlour game and a bit of a scare at bedtime but:

1.) I'm not paying to watch it from France especially as I'll have to watch the complete progression from start to finish.
2.) I did Ouija boards as a kid and all that kind of stuff freaks me out to this day.

What ouija boards?!

You are just embarrassing yourself here!

Everyone knows who the Traitors are! LOL

Hmm it's hardly inside information is everyone viewing knows who the traitors are and that's part of watching it!!!

KnopkaPixie · 24/01/2025 19:50

I probably don't. Keep me informed. I'm willing to to be educated. It seems to be a big cultural phenomenon in the UK but I'm out of the loop and it all sounded really weird.

Is it just high kitch?

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 24/01/2025 19:51

It's basically an extended murder mystery game.
Nothing horrible about it.

We're all looking forward to the final tonight, including our 10 year old.
We've got a sweepstake on the go!

Overthebow · 24/01/2025 19:52

It’s a tv and slightly reality show version of a real game that lots of people have actually played, with some tasks thrown in to add a bit more drama and better tv. I like it, both the actual game and the tv show version!

CharityShopChic · 24/01/2025 19:53

Ouija boards? What do you think they are doing in the tasks, communicating with the other side? THere have been no ouija boards, no seances, no undead, no tarot cards.

The card game thing was a simple game where players had to swap cards with the intention of being left with a specific one at the end. Sort of like Old Maid / Scabby Queen in reverse. The coffin thing was more a large tomb, well above ground.

It's not at all unsuitable and yes, you have no business starting threads slagging off programmes you haven't seen.

Gosh. Are you the person I know who watched 1 episode then declared it was nonsense as it's obvious who the traitors are because their body language gives it away?

It's obvious because we (the viewers) know already.
And the show is heavily edited so it looks like people reacted differently to how they did.

Overthebow · 24/01/2025 19:56

We all know who the traitor is

HaddyAbrams · 24/01/2025 19:56

mouldygarlic · 24/01/2025 19:35

Everyone really hasn’t.

It’s just a job. And she said she did have a word with the guy upstairs, and he was fine with it. 🙂

Edited

Well not literally everyone! But most of the people I know IRL (other than clergy it seems) think she shouldn't be on there.

ThatEllie · 24/01/2025 19:57

I’d just be happy if the threads for it, and for the TV section in general, didn’t appear in the trending list. People must love to prattle about it because there’s sometimes 3 or 4 threads at a time showing in Trending, and several maxed out at 1000 posts. 😂

CharityShopChic · 24/01/2025 19:57

a bit of a scare at bedtime

Also this is so wrong. No, it's not scary IN THE SLIGHTEST.

KnopkaPixie · 24/01/2025 19:57

Thanks everyone. Keep on explaining. It just sounded strange from what my mum said.

If you all have your popcorn ready, so to speak, I'm interested. Is it a really big thing? Is everybody watching it?

😂 Yeah, that is kind of the point..that the viewers know who the traitors are.

Stepfordian · 24/01/2025 19:58

One of my relatives thought the same, apparently saying ‘murder’ is horrible and unnecessary 🙄

Its just a game, all the participants know this, its fine.

Cattery · 24/01/2025 19:58

It’s brilliant.
