AIBu to think "Traitors" is horrible?

I do not live in the UK, have no access to BBC media but my mum seems to be quite caught up in it. Apparently it's the grand final tonight.

I've watched the trailer on youtube but it just seems horrible. The information I've got from my mum is a bit garbled but wasn't there a woman vicar on it?

I don't want to sound like, "Outraged of Tumbridge Wells" but...

My mum was yakking on on about lying in a coffin, talking dolls, tarot cards...

I thought it was more like Taskmaster.

It all seems a bit rum to me. It's like, "Eyes Wide Shut" meets "Squid Game."

AIBU "It's just a bit of fun, stop clutching your pearls."
AINBU. "It’s horrible and I get mixed up between Davina McCall and Claudia Winkleman."

You hate something you've never watched, how does that work?! 😂

Whatafustercluck · 24/01/2025 20:00

On a separate but related point, I think I'm a little bit in love with Claudia Winkleman.

Traitors is great.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/01/2025 20:01

It’s just a game!

Even if you don’t like it (I do) it’s not “horrible” - it’s just contestants playing a game for money!

mouldygarlic · 24/01/2025 19:59

Really? How weird.

Yup. I dip in and out of the traitors threads and I'm sure there were posts on the first one of those about it too. Very strange.

I know it's an extended parlour game and a bit of a scare at bedtime but:

1.) I'm not paying to watch it from France especially as I'll have to watch the complete progression from start to finish.
2.) I did Ouija boards as a kid and all that kind of stuff freaks me out to this day.

No ouija boards involved. You don’t like it then don’t watch it, which you haven’t.

I think Love Island sounds like a load of crap, so I don’t watch it.

Tipperttruck · 24/01/2025 19:39

It's tediously drawn out. The amount of content vs length of the show is very low.

This. It should be 30 minutes max per episode but I'm rooting for Charlotte. She won't win now but love her relishing her traitor role.

mashingwachine · 24/01/2025 20:02

Scare?

KnopkaPixie · 24/01/2025 19:50

I probably don't. Keep me informed. I'm willing to to be educated. It seems to be a big cultural phenomenon in the UK but I'm out of the loop and it all sounded really weird.

Is it just high kitch?

Well it’s not just the UK, is it. Many countries have their own version. Either watch it or don’t. Why would anyone keep you informed? Weird.

Me too.....

What the fuck are you on about?

PeppyGreenFinch · 24/01/2025 20:04

I like the concept but a lot of the good people get banished and murdered and we’re left with the dregs.

I’m not really rooting for any of the remainder, except Alexander a bit.

Zanatdy · 24/01/2025 20:04

How can you say that from an advert? I absolutely love it, my 16yr old DD and I have been watching and love it. Can’t wait for tonight’s final

FindingGlimmers · 24/01/2025 20:05

My 11 year old is obsessed with it.

Changed my mind, it reads as if OP is doing market research for the BBC or Studio Lambert.

MonkeyToHeaven · 24/01/2025 20:05

Vicars have an unfair advantage, being professional liars.

Are you doing research for the BBC? Hmm

It’s just wink murder!

Er, yes, it is a big deal. 10 million people have watched the series premiere this year.

The dolls sang a nursery rhyme backwards and you had to guess what it was. The coffins were a prop that someone had to get into for about 10 minutes so the others could find them in some woods. The tasks are mostly answering questions and finding money in trees. I'm not quite sure where the ouija board bit came from...

Agree. A shit one too. There have been a few lately.

I suspect the Dyson post was similar.

WinterBones · 24/01/2025 20:15

it's not my thing, but i get everyone else is obsessed.

my main pet peeve is that not only was it classed as national news needing a place on the BBC 6 o'clock news (wtf) but then they were banging on about it on One Show too.

It's a game show, it doesn't warrant a slot/mention on the national fucking news ffs.

museumum · 24/01/2025 20:18

It’s been played very fairly and with good feeling and no real arguments or personal attacks in the three seasons I’ve watched. Extremely good sports all round. An excellent example, I watch it with my 11 year old despite a bit of fruity language on occasion.

CeeJay81 · 24/01/2025 20:18

You can't have that opinion if you haven't watched it? I wasn't sure if I'd like it either when I watched the first series but I'vereally enjoy them! am hooked! I've watched them all, including some of the foreign ones.
