AIBu to think "Traitors" is horrible?

I do not live in the UK, have no access to BBC media but my mum seems to be quite caught up in it. Apparently it's the grand final tonight.

I've watched the trailer on youtube but it just seems horrible. The information I've got from my mum is a bit garbled but wasn't there a woman vicar on it?

I don't want to sound like, "Outraged of Tumbridge Wells" but...

My mum was yakking on on about lying in a coffin, talking dolls, tarot cards...

I thought it was more like Taskmaster.

It all seems a bit rum to me. It's like, "Eyes Wide Shut" meets "Squid Game."

AIBU "It's just a bit of fun, stop clutching your pearls."
AINBU. "It’s horrible and I get mixed up between Davina McCall and Claudia Winkleman."

I don't have a television

Is this whole thread a wind up?

Why do you give a shit about a program you don't watch (or any program) in a country you don't live in?

Because I live in the sticks and am a bit poor but it doesn't really trouble me on a daily basis unless I phone my 83 year old mum and I would like to know what is gripping the nation back in the old life.

It sounded a bit strange to me. You all like it. I don't. I'm risking yet another pile on but I am a Christian and I don't like this kind of messing about with backwards talking dolls and graves.

If you have a tablet and internet you can watch BBC iPlayer. You are a bit woe is me 🤣

I don’t think backward talking dolls or graves are banned in Christianity.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/01/2025 21:25

Fair enough @KnopkaPixie the Christians I knew from university would probably be against it. There's no real occult in it though, just highly dramatic clowns and such

BG2015 · 24/01/2025 21:29

It's brilliant and very clever.

Apparently the producers are constantly on their toes as there's no way of predicting what will happen- they have to think on their feet.

Nice, easy watching about how people manipulate each other.

Loved all 3 seasons

I know it's an extended parlour game and a bit of a scare at bedtime but:

1.) I'm not paying to watch it from France especially as I'll have to watch the complete progression from start to finish.
2.) I did Ouija boards as a kid and all that kind of stuff freaks me out to this day.

It's not scary in the slightest, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick

HaddyAbrams · 24/01/2025 21:43

The dolls and the clowns were scary. But I'm scared of those things!

Thankyou. Quite appart from the occult aspect which is a bit silly, why should we celebrate people manipulating each other for material gain? Even if it is only a game?

Are we celebrating it? Most viewers prefer the faithfuls to succeed.

Autther · 24/01/2025 21:47

The dolls were funny and the clowns are probably drama school kids dressed up, c'mon!

outofmexico · 24/01/2025 21:48

Clowns are always people dressed up. I've been terrified of them since I was a small child.

I mean, neither they, nor the creepy dolls, gave me nightmares, but they were creepy to me.

No. I'm not Amish or a Jehovah's Witness or anything like that. The programme must be on the television by now so enjoy it.

I haven’t really watched it but I have as strong feelings against it as you do!!! Just watched the end of it and seems so stupid. Breaking news - someone put on a fake Welsh accent the whole time.

i don’t understand the point of Traitors or Love Island! Probably more but those are the ones I seem to hear the most about!!

Thankyou. Putting aside my Christianity, these reality shows seem to be a variation of the Stanford Prison Experiment. Only this time for a willing audience

You have literally zero idea what you're talking about.

No. It has nothing to do with the Stanford Prison Experiments. Nor does it bear any relation to Eyes Wide Shut, or to Squid Games.

its an innocent guessing game, very middle class, very family viewing, very BBC.

Your take on it is wild. And this whole thread is bizarre. You’ve never watched it yet seem to have decided it’s some dark twisted thing about sex and cruelty and the occult.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 24/01/2025 22:53

@Alltheyellowbirds exactly.
It's very family friendly- I've just watched it with my 10 year old! And Traitors uncloaked.

Worryingly, he'd make a bloody good traitor 😂😂

BIossomtoes · 24/01/2025 22:57

You all like it. I don't.

How can you possibly know whether you like it or not if you’ve never seen it? This series has been fucking brilliant.

Suzuki76 · 24/01/2025 23:03

KnopkaPixie · 24/01/2025 20:28

Thankyou. So it's a real success? Is it Endomol? The Big Brother people? No, I don't work for the BBC or any other media.

I just got into a weird conversation with my mum and wondered what it was all about. It just sounded a bit strange the way she was describing it.

Maybe I should have checked that there weren't other threads about it on other boards but I just didn't really like the concept from what she was saying.

Yes. I'm being unreasonable. You've all told me what's going on.

Endemol folded years ago.

It's not a British concept at all. The first series, De Verraders, is Dutch.

KnopkaPixie · 24/01/2025 23:07

Go on then, who won. Is it over yet? I'm willing to be proved wrong and it was all good fun. I've tried to watch other bits of stuff for free and it seems to be all very high camp.
