Really unsure what a legitimate reason could be!? Was already off 3 days last week poorly...!

Take the bus, train or taxi if you can't walk.

You can't miss work

BlueSlate · 24/01/2025 07:25

You can't. Go to work.

NormaleKartoffeln · 24/01/2025 07:27

Public transport?

HelloMrBond · 24/01/2025 07:27

It’s a windy day, not a Ruski nuke warning. Get a grip….

adminicle · 24/01/2025 07:27

What is the official advice for your area? Is public transport running? If it isn't feasible for you to get to work safely, that should be the reason you give - you could offer to take the time unpaid or make up the hours next week if that's an option for you.

TwentyTwentyFive · 24/01/2025 07:27

The same way people who don't drive will be getting to work today. Bus, taxi, walk or train etc.

You can't just not go in because there's an amber weather warning.

CallMeFlo · 24/01/2025 07:27

There's n9 legitimate reason. Folk are having to go in red areas. You'll be fine

ItsByThere · 24/01/2025 07:28

A mental health day if it’s giving you anxiety?

Stormwhatnow · 24/01/2025 07:29

NormaleKartoffeln · 24/01/2025 07:27

Public transport?

Public transport in cancelled all day in parts of Scotland today, schools are closed, all non emergency NHS appointments cancelled, no trains. People will die today, it's wild out there.
Sympathies OP I have to go to work today today (red zone). Don't have far to drive though.

RedRiverShore5 · 24/01/2025 07:29

Maybe get a job you can walk to, there are many amber alerts nowadays

Is this a pisstake? Mental health and anxiety because it’s windy outside.

This is why this country is toast.

RedToothBrush · 24/01/2025 07:30

What do you make of all the people working in red areas to keep crucial services running? If you need to go to work you go and you are sensible. If you don't need to go, you don't.

You don't sit around making up dumb excuses not to go to work though.

Ellie1015 · 24/01/2025 07:30

Are schools open? Ours are closed as Red alert which is very ususual and making me a bit more careful ie not going out. If schools are open and public transfer running then it is just about being cautious/expecting delays. I would drive. Check the time of the warning might be able to get to work before the worst of it.

TrivialSoul · 24/01/2025 07:30

We are in the red zone, no public transport and most offices and shops closed but my dad is an essential worker so has to go to work no matter what. One of us will drive her but it already sounds wild outside. If you are just in an amber warning then go out as normal but taking extra care.

Trains are cancelled here today.

itsobviousright · 24/01/2025 07:30

When do you have to leave? If you're office based, I suspect workplaces will decide to close shortly anyway, since schools etc are all closed

2chocolateoranges · 24/01/2025 07:31

Perfectly safe to travel in an amber warning area.

drive with care and be vigilant as always. You’ll be fine, no excuses needed.

Oh, yes, it's so easy to get a new job in the perfect location 😂. Perhaps if OP fills in a quick application form now, she'll be able to start by 9am

Stormwhatnow · 24/01/2025 07:31

Lol at people saying walk. That would honestly not be possible without getting blown off your feet. In fact a lady was blown off her feet recently in high winds and smashed her face, right outside my work. It happens.

Maybe she should just go to work then, amber alerts are quite common

Trains are cancelled here today.

Yep, I'm in an amber area and there are no trains at all - I checked the departures on National Rail earlier.

RedRiverShore5 · 24/01/2025 07:34

OP is driving not getting a train

ConstantCringing · 24/01/2025 07:35

Take a day's holiday.

OP is driving not getting a train

PPs have suggested the train as a possible alternative to driving.

biscuitsandbooks · 24/01/2025 07:36

We're in an Amber area and all schools are closed and trains are cancelled. All our local employers have told people to work from home if necessary.

That said if you can't work from home and don't rely on public transport you're still expected at work.

Personally I've closed my business for the day as I don't feel it's safe to be out walking dogs in 90mph gusts of wind!
