Are we all going to die?

First we get that alarm, now Tesco is closed tomorrow. It's the end, isn't it?

My mum (62) is refusing to message me (32) on WhatsApp whenever my profile photo involves clothing she considers low cut. I am a professional and message colleagues in WhatsApp and hence will let you judge the level of low cut that it can be.
I am having a fairly difficult time at the moment with work and personally and so I find it quite difficult that she suddenly EMAILS me instead of whatsapping whenever my picture is changed to something she doesn’t like.
I feel like it’s 2025 and she should be accepting etc but don’t know if I’m in the wrong. What do you think?

I think you should start your own thread.

Go to Waitrose then! 😂

Leave her outside to be SMOTE by Eowyn.

I thought I had posted my own! Brand new here!

BiancasSilverCoat · 24/01/2025 00:03

We're all going to die yes, but not tomorrow.

Tomorrow is for everyone to sit at home and learn how to pronounce Eowyn. They've closed the shops so we don't get distracted from this work. Once everyone in the UK can say it properly, the shops will open again.

I'm in NI, and it's being taken extremely seriously. Who knows whether or not the predictions will be correct, but if lives can potentially be saved, I am all for it!

All schools and Education Authority premises are closed, surgeries and o/p appointments have been cancelled, PSNI have declared an emergency, there have been statements from the First and Deputy First Minister, plus an ACC from PSNI. Most businesses are closed - some may open tomorrow afternoon once the red warning expires, though we are still expected to be on an amber warning.

I am thankful that my DC1 and DC2 don't have to go to work, nor does DC3, and DH and I can wfh as we mostly do anyway.

As I said above, I clearly recall 1987 where the Met Office in the form of the hapless Michael Fish, stated that there wouldn't be a storm... and they were devastatingly wrong. I would sooner be overprepared than underprepared.

Stay safe everyone!

Nope, you need to press the 'start thread' button on the top right.

We will forgive you though lol and welcome to MN!

We don't have Waitrose in NI.

Tesco is closed, SuperValue is closed, and even Eurospar is closed.

I knew we were doomed when McDonald's closed....!

Onlyonekenobe · 24/01/2025 00:17

The only way to eat papaya is with a very generous squeeze of lime juice. Match made in heaven!

I can’t work out how to delete the comment from this thread. Gosh what a mess. Thank you for being forgiving!

BiancasSilverCoat · 24/01/2025 00:19

I love papaya. It's also a good weaning food. Hope this doesn't mean there's going to be a run on it.

I've seen social media posts saying that people screamed when all the alarms went off in restaurants and supermarkets Grin
Apparently thought it was Putin. I didn't hear mine, it was downstairs 🤷

My 11 year old daughter jumped out of her skin. We were in a pizza restaurant ans she was just logging into their WiFi when her phone went off. Really loud and alarming. She was so shocked she threw her phone across the table at me.

Seeingadistance · 24/01/2025 00:27

If I survive this, and Tesco reopens, I'll be there queuing up for papaya and limes.

I think you'll catch your bloody death and need to cover up.

Or maybe just start your own thread. This one is about the horrible weather.

Treesinmygarden · 24/01/2025 00:31

It's still calm here (Belfast area). Seems to be kicking off a bit in Galway from what I have seen online!

Anyone else?

North Down coast and it’s really picked up here in the last half an hour or so

I think we can conclusively agree that we are all going to die. WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE.

Speak for yourself, OP! I know that others are going to die, but I'm less sure about me. I just don't think that dying is the sort of thing I would ever do. It's so un-me.

Only yellow, so will be fine!

As someone married to an emergency responder… please could you not, just for tomorrow? It’ll be carnage enough already.

BiancasSilverCoat · 24/01/2025 00:38

Carnage? As in, widespread violent and bloody death and slaughter?

I'm never going to get my fucking papayas now, am I?

ChicLilacSeal · 24/01/2025 00:40

Never mind Tesco and Marks, hurry up and see if Tiffany is open. Because nothing bad can happen in Tiffany.

Come back to me once you’ve dragged bodies from accident scenes.
