Do you have a pudding every night?

Exactly my question. I'm so used to having a pudding, no matter how small, every night. If we don't have one it feels like the meal is not complete.
As I'm overweight it needs to stop. Need to save some money too. I have a wardrobe full of nice clothes that don't fit.
If you do have a pudding & still keep the calories down what do you have? Fruit salad is the obvious choice, but you get fed up of it after a while.

I would love to have a piece of carrot cake or a scone with jam & clotted cream after tea but I would be up all night with that amount of sugar!

So i have it al lunch time instead. Shouldn’t really I guess.

I'm pretty sure there are no rules.
Eat what you like.

Are you aware that there is an obesity crisis?

Clearinguptheclutter · 23/01/2025 21:35

Yes but sometimes just a single biscuit or a bit of chocolate

we always have “proper pud” at weekends. Eg apple crumble or tiramisu

I was brought up in a family where there was pud, and then tea and cake later. So if I’m only having one (mini) pud, that seems quite well behaved to me.

(I run quite a lot so generally don’t worry about what I eat)

I’m aware there are no rules, I never said there were…but it’s not that necessary really

Onetimeonly2024 · 23/01/2025 21:44

Sadly not. I’m greedy as hell so even when stuffed I could make room for a sticky toffee pudding or an Eton mess or Key Lime Pie. So I stopped making it, other than for special occasions. I substitute with an occasional Wispa Mousse. Surprisingly satisfying!

Evanted76 · 23/01/2025 21:46

Sometimes I fancy a piece of chocolate with a coffee after tea so I will have a two finger kitkat or a freddo. Or something similar that's snack size.

But as far as an actual pudding, no. Not unless I'm doing a sit down Sunday roast and have family around. Then, I will do an apple crumble or similar.

Tiswa · 23/01/2025 22:00

only when DD bakes which actually is quite often but she bakes vegan recipes (similar to the tofu mousse) such as chickpea cookie or chickpea Blondie banana bread and chocolate chip muffins and it all feels quite a lot healthier and full of protein

teacake best direct from the freezer.

No waaay! Really? Right I'll definitely try that!

ParsnipPuree · 23/01/2025 22:05

I'd rather have a bit of chocolate.

PizzaPunk · 23/01/2025 22:09

No, only if we have guests.

Or at Christmas or Easter.

Are you aware that there is an obesity crisis?

I'm pretty sure that is not driven solely by having pud.

It's the best.

Dried fruit works

SnidelyWhiplash · 23/01/2025 22:29

I grew up in a family where pudding was always served after dinner. But in my family, we only ever have pudding if we have a dinner party. Even then I’ll eat only a spoonful to be convivial. We would never order pudding in restaurants; just not something we want.

We are not a sweet tooth family, and we never got our kids into the habit.

Purpleberet · 23/01/2025 22:30

Yes I have at least a bar of chocolate most days. It’s a mindless habit really.

However the rest of the day I eat very well, I limit processed foods - never really have cereal/crisps/supermarket bread/biscuits. I’m also very active and at the gym 5 times a week.
So it’s all about balance. If I’m eating super healthy for breakfast, dinner & tea and all the snacks in between I think a dessert every night is fine.

For a while I tried switching to hot chocolate and that was ok. But I missed having actual chocolate, and life’s too short!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 23/01/2025 22:32

Apple and a teaspoon of peanut butter
Yogurt
Quark
Silken tofu with a teaspoon of cocoa powder, whizzed up
One scoop (50g) vanilla ice cream

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 23/01/2025 22:34

Those horribly expensive frozen raspberries with a chocolate coating 100g for 80 calories

Rewis · 23/01/2025 22:34

Only on special occasions.

SexAndCakes · 23/01/2025 22:44

Yes, but for me it's always fruit. I have a good fruit bowl and choose something I fancy - orange, apple, berries, mango, etc. etc.

Other low calorie ideas are yoghurts, light chocolate mousse, sugar free jelly?

happy44 · 23/01/2025 22:46

Full fat Greek yoghurt with choc protein powder
Apple and peanut butter

Beesandhoney123 · 23/01/2025 22:48

The dc do. I make it, they eat it. Always after Sunday lunch, and then I do indulge.

It's a habit - by the time I've tidied up and taken the dog out, I don't want anything else. If I am, I have a very small square of chocolate.

Dutchhouse14 · 23/01/2025 22:56

I usually have pudding, it's a bad habit but I love puddings!!
We always had "afters" when I was a child so it's a life long habit.
A few frozen berries is not a pudding imo.
But I am overweight, so it needs to stop - I used to be slim and still be able to eat pudding but sadly no longer.
DH, who is still very slim!, bought gypsy tart from shop tonight-I really don't want to know how many calories are in that, it's pure sugar!

HS1990 · 23/01/2025 22:58

Currently losing weight (1 stone down) but I always leave 100 calories for my evening 2 biscuits with a cuppa. That's enough pud for me.

SunnieShine · 23/01/2025 22:58

Always, I love my grub.

Newhere5 · 23/01/2025 22:59

No, I just eat my dinner.
I do have chocolate maybe twice a week? and sometimes nice muffin from a bakery during the weekend.
