Do you have a pudding every night?

Exactly my question. I'm so used to having a pudding, no matter how small, every night. If we don't have one it feels like the meal is not complete.
As I'm overweight it needs to stop. Need to save some money too. I have a wardrobe full of nice clothes that don't fit.
If you do have a pudding & still keep the calories down what do you have? Fruit salad is the obvious choice, but you get fed up of it after a while.

If I'm going to have afters it wouldn't be boring yogurt or fresh fruit but something sweet and rich and yummy. That happens 2 or 3 times a month when I'm feeling particularly down (mince pie and custard yesterday 😋) but I do agree with pp about very dark choc as just one square of a posh/Lindt one cures my sweet tooth for the evening.....and is meant to actually be good for you!

Stephanie2018 · 23/01/2025 20:13

Do t let anybody ever tell you that you have to go without to lose weight hun. It should be an enjoyable, wellness process x

Strawberriesandscream101 · 23/01/2025 20:16

I do, nothing like a big chocolate gateau just a cup of tea and few rich tea biscuits, once in a while I will have a treat tho like a cheesecake to share with my dc. I'm slightly overweight working on losing it due to high blood pressure so I've changed my diet to mainly protein.

tourdefrance · 23/01/2025 20:16

No. Kids have fruit salad most days and ice cream on Fridays. We all have a proper pudding (home made sticky toffee, crumble, chocolate etc) on Saturday with any leftovers on Sunday evening.

Blatantlybeyondhelp · 23/01/2025 20:17

No.

DeaNutrix · 23/01/2025 20:22

No hardly ever only when eating out which is also becoming very infrequent, but sometimes I will have a square of dark choc with a late tea.

If I have sweet stuff it’s more likely to be a slice of cake during the afternoon on a weekend.

Deeperthantheocean · 23/01/2025 20:24

Not a pudding as such but I will go and get some choc on an evening 😋

LadyRoughDiamond · 23/01/2025 20:26

I make a pudding once a week with Sunday dinner. Otherwise, during the week, there’s yoghurt in the fridge and there’s always fruit in the bowl if anyone’s still hungry.

Dramatic · 23/01/2025 20:27

Not pudding but I have a chocolate bar every single night after the kids are in bed

Fencehedge · 23/01/2025 20:27

Some yog or an ice lolly if you must?

Fawn87 · 23/01/2025 20:27

I normally have a yogurt, a 10 cal jelly pot or Fibre One bar.

WrylyAmused · 23/01/2025 20:28

No, rarely fancy it.
Berries are good, with plain natural yoghurt if you need a bit more.

If you want something that feels indulgent, I make a chocolate mousse with dark 70% chocolate, silken tofu, and about 1 flat dessertspoon of sugar for the whole thing. If you made that into shot glasses, you'd have a sweet mouthful every day for not many calories, and what calories there are would be high protein from the tofu. And you can't tell it's made from tofu, no-one guesses.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/01/2025 20:32

Last time I had a pudding was at a large hotel meal with work, and on Christmas Day.

I've never had a pudding habit. Though I do love pudding/desert I save it for some meals out.

It's just a habit. You can change it.

Wonderi · 23/01/2025 20:34

I always have something sweet after my meal or in the evening.

It tends to be a Kit Kat or something rather than a proper pudding.
I sometimes have those mini cheesecakes and things.

Don’t stop having something you enjoy, just make it less calories.

Fruit salad has vitamins and minerals but it still has sugar and calories in it.

If you’re not a fan of fruit salad then don’t just eat it because it’s ‘healthy’ save those calories for something you do want.

Sugar free jelly is the best because it’s so low in calories.
But things like individual ice creams/ice cream sandwiches can be less than 150kcals and still feel like a proper treat.

StormingNorman · 23/01/2025 20:35

Not every night but those little yoghurt-sized pots of crème caramel are delicious and not too high in calories.

Cluelessasacucumber · 23/01/2025 20:43

Yes, I make batches of dark chocolate tofu pudding (no added sugar) with berries, hits the spot.

Vettrianofan · 23/01/2025 20:46

I hear you OP. I decided to be brave and not have one tonight. Split it between all the DC and I did without...the world hasn't ended. Little steps...

Ilovemyshed · 23/01/2025 20:47

Hardly ever. Sometimes a little pot of fruit. Always when we entertain though.

How about the sugar free jellies?

Vettrianofan · 23/01/2025 20:49

Ice lollies are good like rocket lollies. Sweet but low in calories.

ThePoshUns · 23/01/2025 20:57

Only on a Sunday or special occasions

Housebuy1 · 23/01/2025 21:00

No, and I don’t understand this concept at all. No one needs a pudding every night.

89redballoons · 23/01/2025 21:10

No, and I'm also very overweight and currently losing it, but even when I wasn't trying to lose weight I wouldn't have a pudding every night. For me it's cheese and wine Blush

My children are young and skinny, and they do have pudding most nights, as they normally eat a good amount of whatever is for tea and then ask for it. It's normally plain yogurt with a little bit of honey or stewed fruit, occasionally something we've baked together like carrot cake or banana flapjack or a mince pie, and very rarely a "proper" pudding like apple crumble or bread and butter pudding.

Housebuy1 · 23/01/2025 21:00

No, and I don’t understand this concept at all. No one needs a pudding every night.

I'm pretty sure there are no rules.
Eat what you like.

creamsnugjumper · 23/01/2025 21:17

Only at a restaurant or my mums house, it's a kick back from my childhood having a pudding each night.

I never carried it on at home so it's just not on radar.

Openuniversity22 · 23/01/2025 21:20

I would LOVE a pudding ever night. Genuinely have the sweetest tooth ever.

But in the last year (I’m 37) I’ve noticed things like snacking and having a sweet treat every night after dinner really starting to affect my weight. So I stopped.

I now only eat ‘desert’ or sweet treat things on weekends.

It’s a habit that IS easy to break after a few days so I’d say just quit the desert and persevere!
