Do you have a pudding every night?

Exactly my question. I'm so used to having a pudding, no matter how small, every night. If we don't have one it feels like the meal is not complete.
As I'm overweight it needs to stop. Need to save some money too. I have a wardrobe full of nice clothes that don't fit.
If you do have a pudding & still keep the calories down what do you have? Fruit salad is the obvious choice, but you get fed up of it after a while.

I never eat pudding at home but quite often have breakfast as a evening snack.

(I don't do breakfast at the generally accepted time alot but still need my fill of Coco Pops 🤣)

BarbedButterfly · 23/01/2025 22:59

We do. I have a huge sweet tooth though.

Guttedandblue · 23/01/2025 23:02

Yes, eight to twelve bars of chocolate a day. I feel like crap.

Absolutely, pudding after every meal.

Lunch pudding is normally a chocolate bar or a few biscuits.

Tea pudding is about 9pm when we're settling down to watch TV. We usually eat tea at about 6.30pm. Most nights it's a heated thing (sponge cake, strudel, crumble) with cream/ice cream. But if we can't be arsed it'll just be a couple of chocolate bars or biscuits again.

Pudding is always accompanied by a cup of tea. Always

Yes to lunch pudding (tracker bar or biscuit)

as well as tea pudding which you are correct must be accompanied by a cup of tea!

Yeah, i have to have something sweet, usually chocolate most days. I'm properly addicted. Quite good at portion control though and mainly stick to bitesized.

Ilovecakey · 23/01/2025 23:05

Fruit with Nutella is really nice and healthyish

SereneCapybara · 23/01/2025 23:10

I do, I don't think I do but most nights I have a yoghurt or some fruit or a left over mince pie etc. All adds up. Pointless calories as I'm not hungry straight after a meal.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 23/01/2025 22:09

I'm pretty sure that is not driven solely by having pud.

I never said it was driven solely by having pudding. I was responding to "I'm pretty sure there are no rules. Eat what you like"

NotAnotherBirthday · 24/01/2025 07:23

Yes.

Most nights it's something very simple like stewed fruit (with yoghurt as an option) or a fruit salad. Only about once a week or so is it something more substantial than that.

Bearbookagainandagain · 24/01/2025 07:24

We have "dessert" at the end of every meal.

The standard is yogurt (with a bit of yogurt, jam.or honey), and/or fruits.
Occasionally, we'll make more elaborate dairy based stuff like semolina or rice pudding. Usually when the meal itself is quite light.

And then on weekends or special occasions we'll have proper pudding.

PandoraFrontier · 24/01/2025 09:31

No. We only ever have pudding if we are having family or friends over for a meal, then we do pudding too. But honestly months go by. I have never understood dinner and pudding, but I wasn’t raised like that so it never crossed my mind to introduce it as an adult.

phoenixrosehere · 24/01/2025 09:40

No.

I’m usually content after having a main meal. I may have a pudding at home if I crave one. I usually find I crave one when I’m sad and since I don’t often have them, it means going out and getting one. Often if I buy one, I find that it doesn’t taste as good as I hoped after a few bites even if I enjoyed it before so it gets put away or someone else will eat it.

However, if we’re out and there is a pudding that sounds nice, I may get it depending on how I feel after eating my meal.

KimberleyClark · 24/01/2025 09:42

No don’t have pudding at night. Do have berries and yogurt at lunchtime. Still overweight.

Maddy70 · 24/01/2025 09:43

Never. Rarely if I go out for dinner

RedPony1 · 24/01/2025 10:02

No, never unless it's a special meal out

We didn't have puddings as children either

mindutopia · 24/01/2025 10:03

We don’t have pudding every night, maybe 2 days a week, a proper pudding I mean. Otherwise, we always have a fruit bowl so I tell the kids they can have whatever fruit they want. If I have any myself, it’s often a satsuma or some grapes.

LeaveALittleNote · 24/01/2025 10:09

I have dark chocolate, the darkest I can find. It took me a while to get used to the taste (I used to always have milk chocolate after a meal) but one square is very satisfying to me now.

DataColour · 24/01/2025 10:09

Yes we, me DH and 2 teens, always have something sweet. There's usually a homemade cake or it could be chocolate. At the weekends there might be a more special pudding like tiramisu or a crumble.
I love fruit, especially exotic fruits for a pudding too. Also have greek yoghurt and fruit after lunch.
I would also class biscuits with a drink after a meal pudding too.

My DD 14 favourite treat is 100% dark chocolate. Montezumas usually. She nibbles on cocoa nibs too.
But as cocoa is quite high in caffeine, i do not buy her these regularly.

CandidRaven · 24/01/2025 10:15

No I only have it at Christmas, I only eat twice a day breakfast around half 9 and tea around 5 and I might have a biscuit or small amount of chocolate in the afternoon

Lifestooshort71 · 24/01/2025 17:03

I think if we tweaked the title to 'something sweet' instead of 'pudding' (pudding does imply roly-poly, steamed syrup, tiramisu, trifle etc), many more are owning up to choc or biscuits etc.......

Merryberrypie · 24/01/2025 17:24

I have pudding every night. On the daily I also have chocolate / biscuits / cake etc.

I am not overweight (size 10) and do zero exercise. I also have a desk job.

Not sure what keeps the weight down other than my diet containing zero cholesterol as I have no animal products ever. I don’t eat meat, dairy, eggs etc.

A lot of deserts contain eggs which are very high in cholesterol as is dairy (particularly cheese) so maybe it’s because I only ever eat the vegan / plant based options of cake, chocolate and ice cream which helps me? Who knows but I have a very sweet tooth.

Butterflysunshine01 · 24/01/2025 17:25

What about a little petit filous yogurt? They’re tiny so very little calories but the strawberry and raspberry ones are nice and sweet!

heidi345 · 24/01/2025 17:27

One square of chocolate (or one chocolate) every night with a cup of tea.

Roselilly36 · 24/01/2025 17:29

We can go for weeks without pudding, but we would prefer a savoury starter to a pudding.
