Following from the (ver popular!) thread about butter I started s few days ago, I decided I want a butter dish to start keeping part of the butter outside the fridge.
Need inspo, how about a show me a pic of your butter dish thread? 😆

I did realise that about price, I was only joking really. 😀. I can only see rectangular pics up thread, my mind is boggling how the lid can contain the butter. But must get on with my work and not go down a magic French gravity-defying butter dish rabbit hole!

You really pack the butter in there, leave it on the counter in the packet until you've unpacked shopping and had a brew..

Then open the butter and cram it into the bell part so its packed firmly.

Then it will defy gravity as its all suctioned in.

I'm also looking for a new butter dish, I broke the lid on my Emma Bridgewater one 🙁
Something pretty would be nice, I'm still in the shabby chic/country kitchen type style ( yes, I know my kitchen is 15 years out of date, but I like what I like and anything sleek, minimalist and modern is just not me ).

If you love it have a look on Vinted. People often sell one half of a butter dish if they've broken the other.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 23/01/2025 14:13

I have this one (and a replacement in black awaiting use) www.pylones.com/en/butter-dish/16058-gift-stylish-butter-dish-butter-fly-palette.html

TheHillsIsLonely · 23/01/2025 14:31

We have an old Emma Bridgewater one. It says 'half a pound of best butter' around the sides and 'don't let the cat get the butter' on the lid. Butter dishes can often be picked up in charity shops and on eBay.

ChillinwiththeVillains · 23/01/2025 14:40

Also this Avoca button dish but I have packed it away until kids leave home. One top already smashed and whole dish replaced but they don't make it anymore www.flickr.com/photos/avocaireland/albums/72157625444173090/with/5394694799

JaninaDuszejko · 23/01/2025 14:40

I got two secondhand French Arcoroc glass ones on ebay , there are always loads. We get through butter so quickly just one butter dish spent more time in the washing machine than on the counter.

Can anyone link me to OPs original thread about butter please? I have a glass kilner butter dish BTW.

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/01/2025 15:01

The one I'm currently using is from Dunelm.

But - I have been searching for the last couple of years for a replacement for the one I broke, and it's nowhere to be found Sad . The second picture shows a similar style but too small, it's like a personal size and I want household-sized.

We have an oval grey-purple Denby one that was a wedding present. The design is discontinued so we take extra care not to break it now.

My parents have two in different colours, salted butter in a red and white striped one and unsalted in a plain white one.

wibdib · 23/01/2025 15:18

I have one of the lakeland stainless steel ones which is fine - but not as good as the old stainless steel one that my mum has that is a shallow dish about 1cm deep (there is a cover for it which is identical but deeper; both can be used as dish or cover depending on which way round you use it)but we all just use the shallow bit.

I also have some of these butter spreading knife that are handy if the butter is really cold... The hole at the end is very handy for quickly and easily creating long lines of butter that soften and become usable very rapidly - the thin holes make the butter soften even quicker but it's not as convenient or fast to do.

This is mine. Very pretty, but I didn’t pay £42, I can assure you 😁I brought it from a le cruset outlet (always ask to see the grade 2 items with slight imperfections) this one had a slight grey mark on the underside of the dish so not visible.

Also the le cruset but via a car boot sale! I love it.... DP hates it as the butter slides all over the place....
He is practical over style...

JaninaDuszejko · 23/01/2025 15:44

I highly recommend those of you who are currently looking for one look on ebay, there are some beauties on there.

Look at thread favourite Lurpak or even some trendy cabbageware as well this vintage Arthur Wood that I would buy now if I didn't already have two butter dishes. There is lots of Denby and LC and various lovely glass dishes as well.

ETA: Ebay butter dishes

I have a French butter bell/ crock/ doodad.

It's nice to have spreadable butter that stays at a constant temperature and all I have to do is refresh the (salted) water every few days in winter and every day in summer. Mine came from Etsy. It is dishwasher safe.

MegaClutterSlut · 23/01/2025 16:12

Yours all look super fancy compared to the one I've got 😂 mines a joie moo moo cow one. Paid a quid down the bootsale for it, it does the job 😁
