AIBU to be fed up with all the Keir Starmer threads

It's giving me flashbacks to 2016 when there were about 20 threads a day saying nonsense like, "AIBU to be concerned about the EU's plans to conscript everyone into an EU wide army?"

Just put a sock in it, already.

It tells you how unhappy people are with this bunch of morons who have stumbled into government. This country is finished. There wasn’t much left by the Tories anyway, but now it’s well and truly finished.

Loads are perfectly happy though

I think he's started with the hard stuff but I really respect his quiet authority

username299 · 23/01/2025 01:26

It's not surprising. We have a right wing press owned by people who don't want a government unsympathetic to their interests.

Social media is a cess pit and many lack essential critical thinking skills. They spend a lot of time banging on keyboards with their knuckles catching flies.

I know, I know, I'm responsible for people voting for morons. They obviously lack capacity.

SnowFrogJelly · 23/01/2025 01:33

Don't read them then!

Allswellthatendswelll · 23/01/2025 04:07

YANBU and I really do think most of them aren't genuine from the tone and wording.

He's not going to resign. The government isn't going to fall. Elon Musk isn't going to install a new government. I suspect they will win again in five years with a smaller majority.

Most people are just getting on with their lives, hoping public services improve a bit, not working themselves into a frenzy over manufactured controversies.

Starmer and his motley crew are such a rich source of material, so I think this story runs - as long as Labour are in power, anyway.

Hopefully, they will not serve a full term, and then your wish will be granted!

Yeah, that would be it - nothing to do with socialists fucking it up then.

The Tories aren't socialist and I'm wondering what's socialist about our current economy. UKIP and the Tories have created the biggest fuck up in my lifetime with Brexit. If you're blaming a government who've been in for less that a year for the current state of the country, I'm not sensing critical thinking skills.

Labour’s record, in six months, speaks for itself - look at the bond markets, look at their fiscal policy, look at the reaction from business. Where’s your critical analysis? Just look up - the west is heading to the right, and we are the anomaly.

It is estimated that approximately 3.5-4 million Labour voters voted to leave the EU, incidentally, but its fantastic you managed to weave Brexit into this (yawn).

God forbid Brexit is mentioned when discussing the state of our economy. After all, it's relevant.

Who cares who voted for Brexit,? We should never have had a referendum. It was a ridiculous idea.

We've had a dip in the economy, it's hardly Trussenomics. Why are right whingers so hyperbolic?

We had our anti immigration moment of madness with Brexit, our hard right nuts aren't that popular. Reform won a few seats and the Tories are a shambles.

A dip in the economy? ‘Right wing whingers’? ‘Hard right’?.

You are tone deaf to what is happening in the world. I would be interested to know your professional background - for context, you understand.

In the interim, now is the time to deploy that critical thinking. Tectonic plates are shifting globally - we have an increasingly bifurcated world, much of which is inflationary. We have an ageing demographic, we have a comparatively unproductive workforce, and declining influence - none of which is unique, but we do have a wholly unqualified government - barely any commercial experience/acumen amongst them - and it shows.

Don’t let your hatred of the Tories blind you to the incompetence and spite of Labour.

My occupation has naff all to do with you. We have a declining influence because we exited the EU.

A comparitatvely unproductive workforce? In comparison to who? We're one of the richest countries in the world.

Spite of Labour. Don't you lot ever come up with anything new? Redistribution of wealth is "spite", helping the deprived is "spite", taking from the wealthy to give to the poor is "spite".

Raising taxes to pay towards failing public services is "spite". Anything that means you have to contribute towards a functioning society is "spite".

Do you know what I think is spite? Blaming the poor for government failure.

I don't see this apocalyptic end of days you're currently quivering over. I see a country stripped bare after the pigs were kicked away from the trough.

You are of course entitled to post your opinion, but your lack of knowledge is quite evident - in the nicest possible way.

Returning to the topic thread, I suspect that Starmer posts will continue for some time...

I’m heading off for a run shortly - have a good day.

Summerhillsquare · 23/01/2025 06:07

"stumbled into government" - you mean won a massive majority in a general election, our usual democratic process in the UK?

"Morons" - you mean the first cabinet that is representative of the country in terms of class, education and sex?

Careful, your upper-classes-are-entitled-to-rule prejudice is showing.

Summerhillsquare · 23/01/2025 06:11

Oh do tell us your credentials and qualifications @MyNameIsX as you are clearly so superior to us oiks. Give us something to aspire to 🙏

Adamante · 23/01/2025 06:16

Couldn't agree more @MyNameIsX

Diomi · 23/01/2025 06:32

He is the prime minister and the economy is going badly. It would be weird if there weren’t threads on him. The threads reflect current polling. Not everyone on Mumsnet wants to talk about parking and salads (although both those are fine if they interest you).

Viviennemary · 23/01/2025 06:34

Yabu. There aren't that many. But KS is very boring and I rarely read stuff about him in particular. And he is PMafter all.

EasternStandard · 23/01/2025 06:36

Just hide the threads. Starmer isn’t liked by everyone clearly and public sentiment has shifted since the GE

If you want a closed off Labour only site I’m sure there are others on FB or somewhere

Tekbrobillionaire · 22/01/2025 18:32

Not the right kind of threads
Not the right type of replies

head to bluesky whilst you can still agree with everyone else on there

Or this.

TaffetaRustle · 23/01/2025 06:38

It's a refreshing break to be honest from the millions of Boris threads about a party.

@BarkLife so by the same logic Russia must have instigated millions of threads about Boris at a party and brexit?
Some posters are incredibly repetitive it wouldn't surprise me if they were actually a bot

TheaBrandt · 23/01/2025 06:53

Seems to me that the Tories ran the country into the ground over the last 14 years but managed to keep it limping along shoving things under the carpet then Labour come in and actually have to sort it all out and then dim people blame Labour for the pain in doing that. Unbelievable.

SallyWD · 23/01/2025 06:56

Yes I agree.
