Is it really that wrong to want for your country what Trump stands for?

I know that there are plenty of threads on Trump at the moment, but most of them are designed to rubbish the guy. That’s been done to death in the last 10 years.

He has still won two presidential elections so perhaps it’s time to move the discussion on a bit.Let’s put aside Trump’s personality, bluster, and whether he will deliver or not, for a second.

Is it really so wrong and bad to want to go for what his core message is? Why is the far right label used so liberally and will we ever see a government in this country which can tackle this madness -

A stop to or huge reduction in illegal immigration

Putting your own country first ahead of internationalism. It’s not a novel idea and certainly not a byword for automatically wanting war. In fact Trump’s argument is that war is bad

Saying no the climate hysteria. Climate change is real but climate emergency seems to be a made up concept to simply tax people to death to re distribute taxes to government lobbyists. Why should people accept being poorer in the name of this dangerous ideology

Putting a stop to woke madness. When did it become ok for state sponsored mutilation of children? Men pretending to be women in prison and hospitals getting access to women’s spaces. People being sanctioned do not using the correct pronouns

Driving the economy forward and putting a stop to endless freebies for those who have no intention of contributing to the system and refuse to work because they are sad.

The fact that someone as eccentric as Trump has to fly the flag for common sense ideas shows you just how batshit the political discourse has become.

The next four years are going to be very different from his previous term. There are no sensible people around him to mitigate the damage he wants to inflict now. This time round those people have been replaced by people chosen only for their loyalty. And in some cases by people who actively want to destroy the department they've been placed in charge of. The anti vax Robert Kennedy in charge of health, for instance?

We should be worried.

It's not wrong, it's 100% what I want for the UK . I fear it won't happen and we will end up uncivilised 3rd world.

Why will the UK end up as an uncivilised 3rd world?

saraclara · 20/01/2025 08:12

Oh, and as for the single issue posters who've arrived... seriously? You think that a rapist who would ban abortion if he could, is on the side of women? Simply because he agrees with you re transitioning?

timetodecide2345 · 20/01/2025 08:12

@rewilded some people are just intelligent! A lack of intelligence is the very reason Trump is in power.

I would love to see the research you’ve done to support this point?

She lost me at this point. Unless she's a climate scientist saying that something 'seems made up' is so completely ignorant as to be laughable.

I'll throw in that I wouldn't want to live in a country where women are seen as second class citizens, if that. 'Your body my choice' is just terrifying.

babasaclover · 20/01/2025 08:14

I'd vote for him in a heartbeat and I hate America but he just speaks sense and no one over here is willing to do it

80smonster · 20/01/2025 08:14

Is that you Nigel love? Do us all a favour: find a real job, this is the most terrible waste of an expensive education.

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/01/2025 08:16

The tariffs thing is going to be a fun ride. Many Americans going to have to learn about autarky and comparative advantage.

hattie43 · 20/01/2025 08:18

Yes if he can get the culture wars over with it'll be a good thing . There are so many non functioning people with some sort of ism it's leading us down a very dark unproductive path .

Oh yes, I've never known a person speak such common sense. A highly educated, intelligent and knowledgeable man.
That's sarcasm, by the way.

It blows my mind that someone is up before 7am with this on their mind? Go get a cup of tea and chill out.

Agree 😂 pre 7am is for peaceful cups of tea before my children wake up and maybe watching the chase 😂😂

HazelTheDormouse · 20/01/2025 08:21

Things are pretty crap all round and only getting worse. In comes someone very radical President who is going to give the whole world a massive kick up the arse.

He’s a horrible person. We all know this. Would you rather your CEO at your company was nice and you never had a pay rise and your working conditions were crap, or he was a ruthless bastard who turned the company around and got you your bonus to make your family life a bit better?

We can only sit and watch. He may make things worse, they may be loads better globally. All I know is things can’t carry on as they are.

I think the Gaza cease fire was probably influenced by Trump coming in. He is not going to support issues he doesn’t believe in. He’s a business man, not a politician.

Newbutoldfather · 20/01/2025 08:22

@decorativecushions and @awkigydrs ,

It blows my mind that people open up a thread on a subject to say that they aren’t interested in it!

Nothing to contribute, don’t contribute.

It is a massively important day today for those interested in politics and there is nothing wrong in discussing it at any time of the day.

Then they came for the trade unionists

I don't agree with the comparison with Nazi Germany, because Trump is not rounding people up for their religion, smashing their businesses, making them wear special badges, restricting their abilities to go where they want and do what they want, making them live in ghettos, and sending them to camps. I think it's very disrespectful to Jewish people to make those comparisons.

Not yet, but the underlying hate and blaming poor people for the ills of the country. Its quite terrifying of where it all could lead.

BustingBaoBun · 20/01/2025 08:28

He’s a business man, not a politician.

With six bankruptcies to his name.

ForkMeImToast · 20/01/2025 08:28

It's not the individual political decisions he makes that's the issue, it's the guy himself. It's the fact that he doesn't necessarily believe in his own policies and just chooses them based on what will get him elected. He's a completely erratic, unpredictable, untrustworthy guy so I really don't get why people would want him in charge of their country. Specially when you look at the people he is choosing to run the country with 🤯

Again, it's not necessarily his policies that are the issue, he is.

EasternStandard · 20/01/2025 08:29

Newbutoldfather · 20/01/2025 08:08

I think Trump is a necessary reaction to a move too far to what is called the left these days.

Globalisation and unfettered immigration has benefited the wealthy far more than Trump ever will. The liberal left has pretended that it is about being nice, educated and compassionate whereas a lot of the reality of globalisation has been holding inflation down by importing cheap labour to displace the domestic working classes, the one disadvantaged class they really don’t care about.

Also, the idea that all cultures are equal is quite a dangerous one. Multiculturalism has been a disaster. Accepting people who don’t accept you and your basic values is only going to lead to trouble.

So a swing back in the pendulum was long overdue, but some of Trump’s rhetoric is truly scary. He does seem to have racist tendencies and is probably a misogynist. It is good to move a little away from globalism and back towards patriotism, as long as that doesn’t swing to jingoism and aggressive nationalism.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. It will certainly be interesting !

It’s all a push pull and currently you can see the pendulum swing and the US will be a major part of that. It’ll likely impact further swings elsewhere

Horriblevirusagain · 20/01/2025 07:38

Would love him to run the UK. Our country is a disgrace now and we need a decent strong leader to put it right again. One of the things he is sorting out is finding the missing children trafficked into USA. Thousands of them. Coaches full of crying kids disappearing In front of everyone and Donald is the only one who wants to find them. Biden didn't give a hoot he just wanted to eat ice cream and chat with the Queer community!!

Surely this post is direct from the troll farm. Trump’s policy of separating child migrants from their parents means close to 1000 of them are yet to be reunited. See Reuters article.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 20/01/2025 08:31

I can’t bear him. As a man, I find him absolutely repulsive.
His ‘politics’ are meaningless to me, he’s all over the place.
This man uses his ‘supposed’ love of his country to get what he really wants, which is validation for herself.
He is programmed to lie, deny and never admit defeat. It’s how he operates.
However…
Politics as we know it is changing at high speed.
The traditional route of voters looking to media campaigns, TV and newspapers feels like a time gone by. While they still have sway, the world of social media and podcasts has created a different space.
Trump is not alone in that he has a lot of self interest and doesn’t respect the law. I think Biden’s issue with his son and other family dealings have shown him in a less than delightful light.
I love Billy Connolly’s assertion that the things that make someone want to become a politician should bar them from becoming a politician.
To get that far, you have to be absolutely ruthless behind the smiles on the podium.
A lot of people feel disenfranchised and isolated and Trump has tapped into that. His simple slogans have hit home.
