Have I been scammed?!

Part of me thinks yes but part me of me thinks no because I’ve been to her house.

Sold a nice item via a neighbourhood selling group and as it was heavy and I had a car I offered to drop it to the ladies house. She was very lovely and the house was lovely! But when I asked for payment, she asked for my bank details. I’ve sent them through and she says she’ll transfer…but having looked online it seems this is a common scam?!

But worst case I’ve been to her house and know her address. Or are people genuine and will transfer?

It’s been a while now. It’s not looking good.

NippyNinjaCrab · 16/01/2025 22:11

She will be able to choose the option of sending a receipt to a recipient. It will still be there as an option for her to do this. X

Because I became anxious and flustered and I am an idiot? Is that the reply you want?

You are not an idiot. Just a normal human. Don't be too hard on yourself. If she is responding, it will probably be fine. If not I would write off the 70 quid, the suggestions of knocking on her door etc won't achieve much imo.

Bournetilly · 16/01/2025 22:16

You can definitely screenshot with Halifax, sorry to say but she’s probably lying. Seems very stupid to lie about this after giving you her address though.

Eggegggoose · 16/01/2025 22:19

Ahh, that’s rubbish OP. I think I would be a bit flustered as well in your shoes and wouldn’t have the nerve to say ‘well, do it now then and I’ll wait’
I need to grow a backbone. Hope you get your money. As least you know where she lives so you can egg her house later. I’m definitely joking by the way! :)

suburburban · 16/01/2025 22:19

Hope you get your money OP

It is awkward when selling things, people can be such a pain and put you on the spot.
My Grandad died and Mum and Uncle are trying to sell his furniture etc.
The amount of aggro they've had with it is unreal! I've had to step in and do it for them and will be so pleased when it's done.
Sick of no shows, not enough money , not the right change, will you post this (says on listing collection only)? Where are you (says on location and written in listing)? I'd have to travel really far to fetch it so can I have it for a tenner instead of the £75 it's on for? Will a double wardrobe fit in my car? How the f do I know? I don't know what car you have and even if you told me I still wouldn't know, you're the one with the car and a tape measure... and the measurements are on the bloody listing!!!

Sorry for the rant everyone 😅

Update - She has said she has paid but isn’t sure why it isn’t showing in my bank. She said her bank won’t let her screenshot. She’s also sent me a video of the item in her home so she does seem genuine!

My bank does that - ie preventing benign screenshots. It's somannyoing. (It's Halifax by the way)

SallymetLarry · 16/01/2025 22:22

It's best to only accept cash and give a written receipt to say you received payment. (Take the receipt with you.)

HÆLTHEPAIN · 16/01/2025 22:25

TheLemonFatball · 16/01/2025 20:41

I'm with Halifax and they don't let you screenshot. Odd for payment to not go in immediately though. Is that a revolut thing?

I thought they’d change that back? I can screenshot again now.

Edited - apologies! I see plenty of others have mentioned you can screenshot now.

Sorry to hear about your grandad and the hassle of people buying the furniture!! How annoying those questions are and what a waste of time!

People act like they’re doing YOU a favour, taking it off your hands which is ridiculous.

Princesspollyyy · 16/01/2025 22:29

Hopefully the money will have transferred by the morning x

How do you know? More than one person has explained that transfers to Revolut accounts take longer than other banks

What makes you so sure shes a liar?

mcmooberry · 16/01/2025 22:33

Checking back in in the hope that you had received the money, hopefully by tomorrow!

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 16/01/2025 22:36

OP - I don't think you're an idiot and don't think it's a scam

Tink3rbell30 · 16/01/2025 22:38

If nothing by tomorrow tell her you'll be round to look at the payment on her bank app and take a photo of it to raise it with your bank as to why you haven't had it.

HighSpecWhistle · 16/01/2025 22:41

Would a scammer really be responding to you? For what benefit?

If you haven’t received the money by tomorrow morning, just find a confident friend and go back round, asking for the item back.

pinkstripeycat · 16/01/2025 22:50

You could ask the local PCSO or a police officer from the Neighbourhood policing team to pop round with you to get it back. Neighbourhood police team will help. I asked DH and he’s a police sergeant of 20yrs. He said yes they’d do this.

Zonder · 16/01/2025 22:52

I understand getting flustered. I bet you will be more prepared next time!

My bank app doesn't let me do a screenshot but it does let me send proof of payment. And you can get round it by using another phone to take a photo.

PlaneNoiz · 16/01/2025 22:52
