To find Philomena Cunk intensely irritating and everything that is wrong with society?

She's like that one irritating twat at the back of the class or on a tour that thinks they are the main character and asks stupid endless irritating questions when everyone else just wants to listen and learn something. They are thinking they're funny and clever but they're annoying and stupid AF.
She's admitted that in real life she finds history and science boring so she just mocks it and talks over educated, interesting people with "jokes" that have been done 100 times and the delinquent knuckle-dragging masses lap it up. Just another example of the media contributing to the dumbing down of society.

I'm sick of people saying she's "brilliant". No, professor Brian Cox is brilliant. Diane Morgan's idiotic character is just some knob sat there asking stupid questions to one of those most fascinating people on TV who pretty much has all the answers to life. It's depressing that people like her tbh.

Love Cunk. Cunk on Life was quite different I felt, more subversive. The sex scene was hilarious, especially if you've sat through any sexed up documentaries on Henry VIII recently.

A brilliant swipe at contemporary documentaries.

My favourite parts are the subtle tripping over that Diane Morgan does so well.

OP Im with you. She was briefly funny once. In the same way Ali G was. She needs to fuck off now cos humour moved on and hers is boring.

In the same vein as Cunk, I also love Matt Berry's wildlife mocumentaries too. They're worth a watch but not sure if they're still on BBC iplayer.

I agree, OP. Cunk and Barry Shitpeas were ok in small doses on Screenwipe and such, but Brooker gradually used them more and more, and then Cunk broke out and got her own show. A thin joke stretched way too far. Hope Barry doesn’t start making solo appearances…

Mind you, I hate the kind of humour when one person isn’t in on the joke. Couldnt bear Trigger Happy TV or Ali G (though I think the character is a great creation). I know more people are aware of Cunk now, but it definitely didn’t start that way.

I found her funny originally (when she was a "talking head" on Charlie Brooker screen wipe I think), but not anymore. Its too much, she is on too much, her act become repetitive, predictable, boring and every time I see it her questions are more and more outrageously idiotic. Yawn.

Also, Ali G done it ages ago and it was much edgier/ funnier.

I wanted to say something similar but wasn't quite brave enough to out myself as someone who gets it and thinks it's very clever and very funny because that normally results in a pile on haha.
Then I saw that the OP had commented saying that they really do get it but it's not funny and on the same level as fart jokes and it's low brow humour lol.
The whole point of it has gone right over some peoples heads and that's ok.
I used to have to explain clever funny jokes to my ex husband who just didn't see why the joke was funny and tbh it made me feel like a massive twat sometimes like he was a thicko lol

I think it’s a plus the academics are in on it as it’s not cruel humour, which I hate.

The humour comes with puns and other word play, which I think is mostly well done.

It’s also interesting and enjoyable to watch the highly intelligent academics use their high intellects to phrase deeply complicated concepts in simple layman’s terms and to attempt to answer the sometimes child-like, sometimes deeply philosophical questions posed by the mock-interviewer.

I think this post would have been more apt if it was discussing the likes of Mrs. Browns Boys, myself, or fucking Jethro! Ppl obviously like them but I have no idea why.

OP it sounds like you have had a humour bypass so I would just leave it there. We get it, you don't like Cunk in your face. Everyone has comedy preferences.

Cunk's interviewed Brian Cox more than once; so he must think it's funny OP or he wouldn't agree to it. Wasn't he featured in broker's screen wipes previously too?

I think it's hilarious and cox did really well to keep a straight face in the latest episode.

This thread has made me go back and watch Cunk and Other People on 2019. I do feel like Charlie Brooker is talking at me with multiple voices but it is still an entertaining programme.

There are plenty of Cunks around in real life. At least Diane lets me laugh at them in private. More power to her.

Ive always thought the joy of Cunk was actually the very clever phrasing of the "stupid questions" designed to illuminate and give space for the guest experts to properly explain stuff. Ive even used some of the clips in my science lessons!
the script is never just "stupid", its always got an angle.... I love it
