Critics flag ‘worrying trend’ of keeping royal files under lock and key as thousands set for release to public

This should be interesting. A big cover up again, no doubt.

The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy.

Fears grow over censorship of secret Queen Elizabeth and Philip papers

I wonder if it is anything much and are we going to be better off for knowing.

Extiainoiapeial · 11/01/2025 22:35

They could all be having affairs for all I care

It's the secrecy and blocking of information that I'm more concerned about

I am certain I wouldn’t be better off for knowing what’s being hidden by the RF. I am also certain that this country would be miles better if it stopped allowing the RF to treat us like idiot subjects.

From the outside it's absolutely mental that you guys as a nation put up with this bunch of racist, paedophile enabling, above the law, born to rule fuckers and even venerate some of them and act like they're of the people because someone claimed they quite liked Paddington.

Although being from Ireland we did the same with Catholicism

I wish we didn't have to put up with them. I support Republic, the pressure group which campaigns, (peacefully) for the abolition of the monarchy.
Unfortunately I just cannot see that happening when successive governments see no reason to disrupt the status quo.

Extiainoiapeial · 11/01/2025 22:30

A huge difference actually. But if you don't get that, it's really no point in me explaining why

Nah, gwan???

What direct impact is it going to have on your life???

Not happening.

The Catholic Church has immense revenue from its estates globally estimated to be over $250 billion. Revenue is estimated to be over $70 billion. The Vaticans wealth is around $15 billion. But all this is clouded in secrecy because they never divulge their financial records.
My stepmothers brother was an Irish priest who became an “accountant” within the Vatican, he left the priesthood when he was transferred to Brazil to oversee finance there. He fell in love, married and became an international banker. I suspect that he still works for the Vatican, which of course has its own bank.

As an aside, when my stepmothers brother divorced her first husband he refused to have anything more to do with her. Even when he left the priesthood to marry he still never reconciled with her. Stepmother, happily lapsed, was very bitter about his attitude and very sad since they had been close.

they dont treat us like anything ? they just keep their secrets secret or try to,

Blinkingbonkers · 11/01/2025 22:53

I’m far more interested in the decisions the present govt are making now (the policies that are actually affecting our lives) than who so & so snogged illicitly…. Seriously, wake up & care about what really matters and will directly affect your life (the royals really won’t).

I'm old too and I'm not bothered about a future when I won't be here!

My kids can worry about that.

I would really really like to know how disclosing the amount of money spent on security would enable every nutter to target them

It cost £113.5 million for security for the RF and VIPs . This is part of the £3+ billion Met Police budget. You are wanting transparency - which surely means more than just the cost which is easily available to anybody with Google.

I visited the Vatican for the first time last year. The opulence was incredible, so much so that by the time we made it to the Sistine Chapel, we were suffering from overload!

We pay for the police, doctors, nurses etc as they provide a service that we all need. The Royal Family do nothing for the general public. If they all disappeared tomorrow, it wouldn't affect anyone's life, apart from Royal correspondents and gossip columnists.

and let's not forget all the "royal experts" and "palace sources" who would all miss making a quick buck spouting nonsense and engaging in pointless speculation. All this venerating of people who are there by accident of birth is ridiculous and infantilises this country

Surely the secret can't be about Penelope Knatchbull. He 'retired' and went off to live with her, then she was the only non Royal at his funeral. Hardly a well kept secret!
I think he has other children that were beneficiaries of his will.

I know, it seems pretty common knowledge there was some sort of relationship, plus it was on the Crown and most people seem to think that's true to life 😂

It will be interesting to know. But sadly, everything is protected when it comes to the Monarchy.

There are many records due for release, but no doubt will be held back.

Couldn't care less. Bigger things to worry about.

LightDrizzle · 11/01/2025 23:26

That aristocrats born in the early 20th century had sex out of wedlock is hardly earth shattering news. Diana, Princess of Wales’ affairs with men married and single are widely reported and she remains “Queen of their Hearts” for many, as she so modestly expressed it. She was a relative spring chicken in terms of era too.

I do think the Queen’s position was uniquely awful from an outside perspective as she was unable to respond or retaliate without imperilling the institution she headed and saw herself as custodian of in a sacred line of succession. That’s me projecting my perspective though and it’s entirely possible that as long as Phillip was discreet and “put family first”, as a woman of her class and era it was a periodic minor irritation. We’ll never know.

If Prince Phillip had other children then I hope their privacy can be protected, if that is their wish, as the level of press and public interest would be grotesque and their lives would never be the same again.

MerryMaker · 11/01/2025 23:48

Ironically Dianas affairs are the only affairs the Royalists will acknowledge

MerryMaker · 11/01/2025 23:48

That's rubbish.

Anne had affairs - she married one of her affair partners. Mark Phillips did also and had a baby with another woman. AFAIK Charles only had one affair, with Camilla.

We knew Diana had affairs because the press exposed them. I'm pretty sure the Queen couldn't have risked an affair and I can't see her wanting to. I'm not convinced Philip did either. Margaret did, Fergie did. That's only the more recent royals.

Both Charles and Diana admitted their adultery in TV interviews!

I don't know where you got that notion!

It went straight into greyed out “comment under review” when I hit post, and then appeared properly just after my follow up post. I’ve never had that happen before. But have also had a post deleted on another thread this evening (an extreme rarity) so maybe the MN mod on duty tonight just doesn’t like me 😅

I've had more threads and posts deleted in the last year than the previous, well near 20 years. I ask every time why? Because I haven't changed that much who I am. So probably it is telling me that society has changed. I find that quite interesting.

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 00:29

@mainecooncatonahottinroof so you think only the Royal women have affairs with the exception of Charles? None of the other men?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/01/2025 00:31

Honestly, if PP had affairs out of marriage and even children it really doesn't matter much does it? His kids out of wedlock, lovely as they might be, are not royal, not in the line of succession and entitled to privacy.

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 00:35

You think it does not matter if PP had children with other women?
Look at how much PR there was about the enduring love affair between Phillip and Elizabeth? If you do not want people to talk about your affairs and any children born, do not talk about your marriage full stop

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 12/01/2025 00:44

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 00:29

@mainecooncatonahottinroof so you think only the Royal women have affairs with the exception of Charles? None of the other men?

I don't know anything about the other men. I don't know if Andrew had an affair while married to Sarah - he was away with the Navy a lot of their marriage. I doubt that Edward has had an affair. I don't believe that William or Harry has had affair!

I don't know about the Gloucesters or the Kents - do you? But listen, you go on, reveal what you know lol!!

Edward VIII I know was a prolific haver-of-affairs. His mistress Alice Keppel was Camilla's grandmother. I don't know about the monarchs in between. I don't think George VI was ever accused of having an affair. Edward VIII was known to be a womaniser but I've never heard of him cheating on Wallis when they were married?

I don't believe that PP had any other children. It would have come out long before now.

But go on, enlighten us with your superior knowledge!
