Critics flag ‘worrying trend’ of keeping royal files under lock and key as thousands set for release to public

This should be interesting. A big cover up again, no doubt.

The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy.

Fears grow over censorship of secret Queen Elizabeth and Philip papers

Surely the secret can't be about Penelope Knatchbull. He 'retired' and went off to live with her, then she was the only non Royal at his funeral. Hardly a well kept secret!
I think he has other children that were beneficiaries of his will.

I think this is probably closer to the truth than much else. And probably would fit a personal restriction.

@mainecooncatonahottinroof Honestly laughable. All the Royal women have affairs according to you, but virtually all the men are chaste. And you seriously think Andrew was faithful!!

Ok, you tell me??

I'm only telling you what I know??? If you know more than me, share it???

Laughable, my backside!

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 12/01/2025 00:56

Yeah, stop laughing and share your 'intelligence' 😂

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 00:58

Even The Crown covered this Philips "philandering"

Yeah Andrew has always been chaste and just hangs out with men like Epstein to make business connections as he said in his TV interview.

Honestly do not treat us like idiots

Go on, tell us who Andrew had affairs with????

Sex I guess, not love affairs

And was he married at the time, or a single man?

Why can't you share what you 'know'???? Seeing as you are so sure of your 'facts'?

I am open to being informed!!

MilkMilkLemomade · 12/01/2025 01:31

I don’t give a shite who they are having affairs with (or not) and I don’t care about their wills either being hidden either because even if they open (wouldn’t they just hide it by other means) I couldn’t give a shite. It doesn’t change anything in my life. I have never been arsed to look up anyone’s will either. I know some people may be interested, but not everyone is. I got 99 problems and PP ain’t one and all that.

I agree - I couldn't care less - it has zero impact on my life!

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 12/01/2025 01:33

Entertaining although it is to find out about affairs, I am more interested to learn when the late queen influenced government in matters other than her own family’s privacy.

We now Charles did as PoW (the spider letters).

basically did she ever influence government policy in a way that was detrimental to us? The prime minister’s weekly conversation with the monarch is spun as a sounding board, a polite chat etc, but for them to continue doing it they must gain from it.

The Monarch has a unique lobbying position

ARealitycheck · 12/01/2025 01:50

This makes me think of the old saying 'people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'. I doubt any of us have a family without some scandal or other. At least whatever went on can't be any more vomit inducing than charles desire to be a feminine hygiene product. 😬

lilmishap · 12/01/2025 01:59

Why does dead old people shagging interest anyone?
Eurgh I don't wanna think about it.

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 01:59

@ARealitycheck Although true, I do not get government money and press attention to say how wonderful my family is and how in love DP and I are.

JaneBannock · 12/01/2025 02:02

I don't fucking care. If they went away, or if they stopped being paid by us, I might be interested, but we live in the UK and some of our taxes go to them, and what the fuck ever. I lost 90% of my interest in that fam when Queenie died. I'll lose the last 10% when Charlie dies

PlayingDevilsAdvocateisinteresting · 12/01/2025 03:00

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 11/01/2025 21:07

I don't feel like they should have to give up their privacy just because of their birth. We pay for the police, for nurses, etc, we don't have a right to details of their private lives. Feels very intrusive to me. Better for Charlotte George and all their generation if we back off the idea of 'owning' the royals and them some how owing us an explanation of their private lives!

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. What you say is so commonsensical (I'm reasonably sure that that isn't a real word, but I like the sound of it, and I think you will get what I mean), that it astounds me that not everyone can see that just because we each pay a very small amount towards the Royal Family, that does not mean that we own them body and soul. They are flesh and blood human beings (no, they are not lizards), and will have nearly all the same problems as the rest of us, particularly when it comes to affairs of the heart.

mathanxiety · 12/01/2025 03:30

SuperNovajovic · 11/01/2025 21:37

I used to work in the team which reviewed these records and discussed with the Royal Household our recommendations for opening them (often refused). Most of it is such trite, incredibly dull stuff, nothing like the conspiracy that their closure suggests... But flip side of the coin arguably much that isn't that justified under the cited exemption either...

Not to be in poor taste at this time, but smoke without any chance of getting at the fire is never a good look.

You do realise that if we were to go down the presidential route, as many other countries that used to have Royalty as their Heads of State in the past have done, then that would almost certainly cost us far more in our taxes than our Royal Family do? The individuals that I am aware of, who are at the head of republic countries, will almost certainly not have the love of their country and it's people, as their uppermost concern. Nearly all of the modern presidents that I can name, are completely self-serving, crass, and get paid far more than our Royalty do.

DoloresODonovan · 12/01/2025 04:48

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 11/01/2025 23:55

That's rubbish.

Anne had affairs - she married one of her affair partners. Mark Phillips did also and had a baby with another woman. AFAIK Charles only had one affair, with Camilla.

We knew Diana had affairs because the press exposed them. I'm pretty sure the Queen couldn't have risked an affair and I can't see her wanting to. I'm not convinced Philip did either. Margaret did, Fergie did. That's only the more recent royals.

Both Charles and Diana admitted their adultery in TV interviews!

I don't know where you got that notion!

Older rumours persist of HM and her special racing friend though,
the fruit of that liaison being Andrew, who neither looks or behaves
like anyone else in that family.
Doubt has been cast on the veracity of the Queen Mothers birth (Cookie)
Margaret had affairs some scandalous, as did AAJ but he was after all
a creative.

Diana’s parentage, suggestions that she is the result of an affair between
Frances and James Goldsmith - she certainly resembles the Goldsmith boys
and Jemima.
When William was a baby he looked like a young Johnny Spencer so who can say.
Speculation on the parentage of Harry arises occasionally.

Anne and Camilla had APB in common at the same time as Charles was
in love with Camilla.
Charles was turned down more times than a hotel bed in his twenties, of course
he had affairs including poor Kanga
Anne and her bodyguard - rumours - so what. There is nothing on her at all
since she married the quiet man Tim.

Its a shame Andrew didnt marry Katherine Stark who was ladylike despite
the ‘soft porn’ film when you consider the horror of Fergie having her toes sucked.

Philip always appeared loyal and devoted to the Queen
I cannot see how PK could have lived with him at Sandringham when she had
an Estate in Hampshire to run. Philip was elderly and far from a hospital so
there wouldn’t be much affairing going on. HM stayed with him there remember.
Its curious though as has been mentioned, that PK was the only non family at
Philip’s funeral, although in truth, she was ‘family’ if only by adoption, through
the Mountbatten connection.
Mountbatten was the grandaddy of affairs, including Shirley McLaine. Rumours
of his promiscuity were confirmed by his close staff.

It was Mountbatten who wrote to Charles encouraging him to sow his wild oats
before settling down with a young naive girl.

Diana’s demons led her to many totally unsuitable affairs, the last one driving
a permanent wedge between her and Frances.

William and Rose affair is unlikely.

None of this nonsense is important enough to keep us awake at night - perhaps the truth will out but who will even care.

DoloresODonovan · 12/01/2025 04:59

Also… Philip was a couple of months away from 100 when he died.
PK would have been 65, younger than his daughter Princess Anne.
