Critics flag ‘worrying trend’ of keeping royal files under lock and key as thousands set for release to public

This should be interesting. A big cover up again, no doubt.

The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy.

Fears grow over censorship of secret Queen Elizabeth and Philip papers

@MereDintofPandiculation strangely it is the same name @SemperIdem mentioned which is now visible. This leads me to think that a fallible human being is checking and deleting rather than a bot.

More likely that a bot is hiding and a human is reviewing.

@SemperIdem said her post had been deleted, which sounds as if it’s been reviewed and restored, rather than been missed.

I think they should be allowed secrets. They're only human. Many of them work bloody hard and didn't choose their lifestyle. I wouldn't want to be in their positions that's for sure! They're welcome to my few quid a year, a million times better than the alternative eg France.

I don't agree, sorry!

Whenever we pay for something there should be some element of transparency.

No one would want to be in their positions, I agree. And the fact the young Wales children are being lined up for this is really akin to something I can't put into words.

I have been on MN nearly 20 years, I enjoy it and don’t want to get banned so I won’t mention her name again. It’s just fairly incredible how something which was a very open secret is banned from public discourse. Just awful.

Anyway, you can find out who she is fairly easily by googling,

I don't feel like they should have to give up their privacy just because of their birth. We pay for the police, for nurses, etc, we don't have a right to details of their private lives. Feels very intrusive to me. Better for Charlotte George and all their generation if we back off the idea of 'owning' the royals and them some how owing us an explanation of their private lives!

It went straight into greyed out “comment under review” when I hit post, and then appeared properly just after my follow up post. I’ve never had that happen before. But have also had a post deleted on another thread this evening (an extreme rarity) so maybe the MN mod on duty tonight just doesn’t like me 😅

Seems a lot simpler to get rid of the idea of a Royal family. Especially as you have so eloquently noted it's akin to forcing people into some sort of freak show against their will.

Perhaps we could just use the moniker of the Countess Mountbatten of Burma? We all know it happened but it does seem a bit bad manners to do it where one and one's son spent their wedding night!

But why should their Wills be sealed? I don't get it.

Their wealth is down to their position. The public should know.

Police, nurses, whoever... all their Wills are public.

I agree.

Part of the point of a royal family is the gossip, entertainment, distraction, headlines, etc, they provide – they’re the circus part of bread and circuses. It keeps us all occupied. In exchange for being the circus, providing the pomp and ceremony, they get unimaginable privilege. But it’s also a damaging headfuck – look how Prince Harry ended up. Far better to end both sides of the bargain.

The bulk of their wealth is ancient and nothing to do with the public. The whole roadshow around them is what is maintained by the tax payer, it doesn't become their personal wealth. They're human beings!! They have feelings and problems and grief just like the rest of us.

ARainyNightInSoho · 11/01/2025 21:13

@Extiainoiapeial i guess the wills are sealed not because of the amounts involved but the names of the people on them. I imagine PP settled quite a bit on Countess Mountbatten of Burma.

As I have so eloquently noted?! No need to be unkind, I just happen to have a different opinion. I think they're just puppets in the palaces and crowns that we use as our historical figure heads of state. Enough of the country enjoys the pomp and ceremony to justify their relatively small cost.

SerendipityJane · 11/01/2025 21:16

Really it was stolen from us by Norman invaders by very real violence. Maybe the idea of reparations needs to go back further ....

Let Patsy Kensit have her privacy

Surely Penelope Keith is posher?

IsawwhatIsaw · 11/01/2025 21:17

There are many stories and names swirling around Philip. He was discrete , she was tolerant

TrudeeScrumptious · 11/01/2025 21:18

Piers Korgan.

And she wasn’t the Countess, that was Patricia.

My next guess was going to be Peter Kay

Which is tantamount to slavery and abuse, surely ? Which we are all complicit in.

I have never heard such a powerful reason to abolish the monarchy - I've always gone down the constitutional problem I have.

Penelope Knatchbull

I don’t think he screwed her. Wouldn’t surprise me if he did but I don’t think he did.

But they cannot be public servants and extending their wealth to others without the public knowing, surely...

Wills were sealed following an 1822 Act when Prince Whoever gave money to a mistress.

It's not small.

And pomp and ceremony would still be there without the Royal Family. Nothing would change.

I replied to you with the name and my reply was hidden immediately. There must be some kind of auto block on the name.

In the series the crown, PP befriends an aristocratic woman whose young child sadly died. Perhaps could Google based on that.

Put your tinfoil hat away. Everyone can see your reply.

@Extiainoiapeial "The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy."
why do the public have a right to know the affairs of the royals other than what books are officially written about them ?
