Critics flag ‘worrying trend’ of keeping royal files under lock and key as thousands set for release to public

This should be interesting. A big cover up again, no doubt.

The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy.

Fears grow over censorship of secret Queen Elizabeth and Philip papers

This makes me think of the old saying 'people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'. I doubt any of us have a family without some scandal or other. At least whatever went on can't be any more vomit inducing than charles desire to be a feminine hygiene product. 😬

Wrong!!! This is always misrepresented. Have a google at what he actually said.

Plus it was disgusting that the man couldn't have a private conversation. I personally think that is way worse than anything he said!

You have sod all idea what any of them are doing. How do you think they turn up at events well-versed enough on the charity or whatever to be able to converse with the people they're meeting?

The man will have to show up until the day he dies. Give him a break!

Will you work until you drop??!

Well I don't work 3 days a month, so I'll probably wont be able to.
They are reading briefing notes prepared by others. Charles has about 800 staff. William a few hundred office staff. What are they all doing if William is sitting there at his computer all day doing his own research?

This is laughable. Some of the Royals read their briefing sheets. Others just mouth general questions.
And even those that do prepare, they read a one page briefing sheet. I have prepared this. You can read it on the journey there.

Older rumours persist of HM and her special racing friend though,
the fruit of that liaison being Andrew, who neither looks or behaves
like anyone else in that family.
Doubt has been cast on the veracity of the Queen Mothers birth (Cookie)
Margaret had affairs some scandalous, as did AAJ but he was after all
a creative.

Diana’s parentage, suggestions that she is the result of an affair between
Frances and James Goldsmith - she certainly resembles the Goldsmith boys
and Jemima.
When William was a baby he looked like a young Johnny Spencer so who can say.
Speculation on the parentage of Harry arises occasionally.

Anne and Camilla had APB in common at the same time as Charles was
in love with Camilla.
Charles was turned down more times than a hotel bed in his twenties, of course
he had affairs including poor Kanga
Anne and her bodyguard - rumours - so what. There is nothing on her at all
since she married the quiet man Tim.

Its a shame Andrew didnt marry Katherine Stark who was ladylike despite
the ‘soft porn’ film when you consider the horror of Fergie having her toes sucked.

Philip always appeared loyal and devoted to the Queen
I cannot see how PK could have lived with him at Sandringham when she had
an Estate in Hampshire to run. Philip was elderly and far from a hospital so
there wouldn’t be much affairing going on. HM stayed with him there remember.
Its curious though as has been mentioned, that PK was the only non family at
Philip’s funeral, although in truth, she was ‘family’ if only by adoption, through
the Mountbatten connection.
Mountbatten was the grandaddy of affairs, including Shirley McLaine. Rumours
of his promiscuity were confirmed by his close staff.

It was Mountbatten who wrote to Charles encouraging him to sow his wild oats
before settling down with a young naive girl.

Diana’s demons led her to many totally unsuitable affairs, the last one driving
a permanent wedge between her and Frances.

William and Rose affair is unlikely.

None of this nonsense is important enough to keep us awake at night - perhaps the truth will out but who will even care.

I don't believe that - there would have been too much at stake if an affair had emerged, and the Queen was all about duty. Can't see Philip taking it either!

Charles and Andrew had plenty of girlfriends back in the day but they weren't married at the time. I don't know if Andrew cheated on Sarah - I've never heard anything to suggest that he did. Charles of course cheated on Diana with Camilla but I am not aware that he did with anyone else. Diana had spectacularly scandalous affairs, including with married men. Parker Bowles was notoriously unfaithful to Camilla.

Mountbatten and his wife were rumoured to have had numerous affairs, and worse. I'm not sure we will ever know what went on. They weren't royals though.

PK was friends with the Queen as well as Philip.

Can someone not think about the future? I do have DC and GC and incidentally my DC are of the same opinion as me

Shame they can't think for themselves.

But they don’t need your few quid. And they don’t need my few quid, that I’ve worked really really hard for, but which i am forced to pay regardless. They are millionaires and billionaires in their own right, with unearned immense privilege and wealth. We pay this family to be better than us, but they’re not. It’s 2025, not 1525 - why do we still have this archy institution that’s being sustained by us the tax payer? And what’s wrong with France? At least their head of state gets democratically elected unlike here, where the head of state is decided through accident of birth.

Do you seriously want a Macron???😂

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 13/01/2025 18:22

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 12/01/2025 11:48

We don’t know how the monarch’s opinions has influenced decisions. They certainly have them: Prince Charles spent years promoting the environment and dodgy complimentary therapies.

i really don’t care how many affairs they’ve had (if legal. Andrew is another matter. ) But I really do want to know if the late queen pushed for a change in policy to our detriment.

What difference would it make if she did?

And what kind of PM would be so easily influenced?

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 13/01/2025 18:24

Tomatotater · 12/01/2025 11:58

I do think, fine, have a Royal Family, but why do we support so many of them and for them to have so many properties? Harry has gone, but once Williams kids are of age, we'll be supporting 3 adults to go round doing what? Shaking hands and cutting ribbons? After paying for the best education money can buy? Some people want Edwards kids and Beatrice and Eugenie dragged back in ' to support William ' who barely does anything, despise being the heir to the Throne. Why has money to fund Palace repairs gone to to the King instead of being taken out directly and used to maintain a property which they clearly haven't used any of their vast fortune to maintain during their long tenure? We should be reducing the sovereign grant, not increasing it. It remains to he seen if the grant goes down once the renovations have taken place. If they can't bear to spend their own money maintaining their residences, then they should reduce the number of properties they have and open up Buckingham Palace all year round to pay for it's maintenance, if they attract so many tourists. Let the tourists pay for it.

You do realise that the king does not own Buckingham Palace?

Why don't you apply for a job at the palace and find out if you're so concerned??

Macron indeed has many issues, as President, no doubt, but at least he was democratically elected and so will the next president after him. But our head of state is not, because it’s an inherited position. Hypothetically speaking, a slight of history could have meant that Andrew could have been king. Can you imagine that scenario? A man like that being our unelected head of state, all because he was born into it. And how wrong would that be!

I think they should be allowed secrets. They're only human. Many of them work bloody hard and didn't choose their lifestyle. I wouldn't want to be in their positions that's for sure! They're welcome to my few quid a year, a million times better than the alternative eg France.

Work bloody hard in what way?

Extiainoiapeial · 13/01/2025 18:48

You don't know about them. I am surprised. It's rather strange to try and talk about a Monarch and influence but not know anything about that. Do you also know nothing about Royal Assent and that QE2 lobbied for changes to draft legislation ? Or the Monarch's immunity from about 160 laws.?
