Critics flag ‘worrying trend’ of keeping royal files under lock and key as thousands set for release to public

This should be interesting. A big cover up again, no doubt.

The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy.

Fears grow over censorship of secret Queen Elizabeth and Philip papers

@2dogsandabudgie

It’s royal protocol for royal children to wear a suit? Of course it isn’t! Do you honestly think there is some kind of binding regulation about what children wear to football matches? Really? Who would have come up with that rule and how would it be enforced? This is the kind of thing I keep seeing on Facebook in reels made in Moldova with AI narration. There as
was something about a ‘royal protocol’ about the colour of nail varnish yesterday. All bollocks.

It’s habit, custom or tradition. Kate Middleton seems to really love dressing her family like the upper middle classes (rather than aristocracy) in the 1930s. It’s rather odd. Really, she can choose to dress her children anyway she wants, and that is what she chooses to do. Presumably it’s to do with her insecurity coming from a nouveau riche family, she does not want to put a foot wrong (as she sees it).

It's nothing to do with how Kate wishes them to dress but they certainly do have dress codes to follow when attending public events.

If you look at William and Harry when they were younger and at public events they too wore suits. Also younger male royals wear shorts instead of trousers up to a certain age.

ARainyNightInSoho · 12/01/2025 21:33

@2dogsandabudgie right, yes of course if you look at photos of royal events people consistently wear the same kind of thing. That’s human society though at every time and from whatever background. It’s not an actual fixed protocol though. That’s like saying it’s playground protocol for mums at the school gate to wear leggings.

Extiainoiapeial · 12/01/2025 21:34

Well ..yes. And Charles wore knickerbockers at the diplomats reception in November.
Maybe there needs to be a breath of fresh air and some modernisation due

The knickerbockers looked bloody ridiculous

Stop fannying about talking about an alleged affair that has zero impact on the lives of anoyne not directly involved, the alleged nail polish preferences of the late queen and a 1950s posh primary-age kid wearing knickerbockers. Just make a grown up argument for the abolition of monarchy in 2025. No one cares about old posh people's affairs, nail poish preferences and poncy 1950s rich-boy pants.

The late queen’s tastes were not modest enough that she could make do with one palace.

Does the word, "inheritance", have no relevance to you???!!

I think they should be allowed secrets. They're only human. Many of them work bloody hard and didn't choose their lifestyle. I wouldn't want to be in their positions that's for sure! They're welcome to my few quid a year, a million times better than the alternative eg France.

I think you're right. The royal family have kept me entertained from William the Conqueror to the present day!!

crockofshite · 12/01/2025 23:25

Extiainoiapeial · 11/01/2025 22:06

I do agree.
I feel for Charles. All these years of waiting and all he could do was carry on with same old same old
It's damaging because there is unease about carrying on like it was. Won't work.
Illness has taken over and William hasn't stepped up to support his father in any way shape or form.
There is no fresh breeze blowing in through this outdated situation, our Monarchy. It's not fresh and alive and moving forward, it's stuck

Edited

Perhaps Wm hasn't stepped up because Charles won't let go, or perhaps because he had a sick wife and 3 young kids to worry about.

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 23:28

Catherine has said she is cancer free. She is recovering from her treatment. But why would William still need to do virtually nothing?

crockofshite · 12/01/2025 23:33

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 11/01/2025 23:55

That's rubbish.

Anne had affairs - she married one of her affair partners. Mark Phillips did also and had a baby with another woman. AFAIK Charles only had one affair, with Camilla.

We knew Diana had affairs because the press exposed them. I'm pretty sure the Queen couldn't have risked an affair and I can't see her wanting to. I'm not convinced Philip did either. Margaret did, Fergie did. That's only the more recent royals.

Both Charles and Diana admitted their adultery in TV interviews!

I don't know where you got that notion!

Didn't the queen have a child with Porchester?

Pumpkinpie1 · 12/01/2025 23:34

Is he doing nothing? Royal or not, he's still sandwiched between his wife and children and his father. He must have been out of his mind with worry throughout 2024, perhaps he wants to scale back to spend more time with Charlie and Kate? I'm no royalist and am surprised to see myself sticking up for them but any fool can see that William must be mentally shattered.

I think you have the wrong poster. I haven't said anything about an affair, in fact I have posted more than once that I don't care what affairs they have

Maybe read the thread? The whole point of it is my OP. Read the article I linked, it's all in there, royal secrets. Ridiculous to think the monarchy might be going anywhere in 2025, as I said in a previous post the most we can hope for are changes, slimming down monarchy, and more transparency

I did laugh at rich boys poncey pants though 😅

Obviously unable to support his 76 year old father with cancer then.

And nothing was different before last year anyway. Not exactly a work ethic going on!

Several posters are repeatedly misunderstanding the point of this thread. It’s as if they thought we were a bunch of ladies flicking through Hello magazine together and they thought they would tell us off for gossiping about royal affairs by saying so what, nobody cares!

Read the actual OP and most of the replies. Not one person here is shocked or particularly interested in what affairs the royals have. We all know that aristocrats are famous for that kind of thing. The concern is the way the royal family wield their power to keep them secret. Ordinary people do not have that kind of power. It’s an anachronism.

But they do choose the lifestyle. They can leave but it would mean giving up the privilege and the money.

And look how those who leave are treated. Diana.. Fergie... the Sussexes.....

How on earth would you know what is going on behind the scenes. It amazes me that people think they know so much about the day to day lives of the Royals.

So what proof have you got that Prince Phillip had an affair/affairs apart from rumours. People will believe what they want to. I mean, some people on MN still believe that James Hewitt is Harry's father even though that rumour has been debunked.

Our only measure is reported engagements. William's count was very low. Compared to his father's. I would like to think he was doing a lot behind the scenes. But as far as royal engagements, no. I believe Charles undertook nearly three times as many as William.

To repeat for about the fourth time, I'm not the slightest bit interested in what affairs they have!

@2dogsandabudgie did you read the OP? This thread is not about affairs. as I have said repeatedly I am not really interested in who had affairs. What bothers the me (and the OP) is the lengths the RF go to to keep things secret. They wield their power and money to do so to a degree that ordinary people can’t. The original OP is about them not making their wills public record as every other citizen has to. It is not about affairs. I am not interested in their affairs. I am interested in their abuse of power. That is what this thread is about.

I don’t know why this has turned into a thread with people telling others off for their (imaginary) gossip. Actually maybe I do know why. It derails the original point of the thread. The RF abuse their power to keep secrets.

2dogsandabudgie · 13/01/2025 10:53

@ARainyNightInSoho sorry I quoted your post by mistake, I was replying to the poster who said that PP had had an affair.

The whole point of them is that they are seen doing stuff. If they are doing things behind the scenes, what is their enormous staff doing? I doubt William is sitting there doing all research himself. At best, he's reading some briefing notes. They have no effect on anything at all, outside showing up to stuff and drawing publicity to them in the hope other people with actual power do things. And even then, they will have little effect on things like homelessness or early childhood, because they can get people round for publicity and photo opps as much as they like, but without shedloads of public money, nothing will happen. If they aren't even showing up in public, they are useless. I think this is where William will come unstuck. He thinks he can do as little as possible, but when people get bored of Harry and Meghan and the older Royals die off, he will fast become irrelevant if he's not showing up and only doing the handshaking/ inane questions at sporting events or a film premiere.

You have sod all idea what any of them are doing. How do you think they turn up at events well-versed enough on the charity or whatever to be able to converse with the people they're meeting?

The man will have to show up until the day he dies. Give him a break!

Will you work until you drop??!
