To send them home? (trigger warning grooming gangs)

The Rape and Grooming scandal is blowing up on twitter/social media and the extent of the scandal is actually mind boggling. Apparently up to 250,000 girls may have been affected 😱

This initially shocked me but when I thought of it, although I’m based in a rural area I know of two girls who have been caught up in it - one of whom in my class at school was raped in a park aged around thirteen and another family friends daughter found naked in a room with a group of adult men at the age of 14 and was blamed for leading them all on. Those living in towns/cities must see so much more of this?!

I’ve also heard today that Pakistan is willing to take back criminals convicted in the Uk of these crimes (UK-Pakistan Prisoner treaty agreement) and has been for a number of years but we’re not sending them back. I know not all perpetrators are Pakistani and not all Pakistani men are capable of such evil (and I work with plenty of decent Pakistani men), but of those who are convicted and born there why on earth are they still here in the UK if we can remove them as a danger from our society and their home country is willing to take them?

In have two daughters and I’m honestly terrified for their future given this significant threat to young girls in this country. It seems like no one cares enough to rock the boat.

YABU - No they should remain here and we should deal with it
YANBU - They should be sent back

Muslim Council has made several statements

Or do you mean individual Muslims or British-Pakistani citizens?

I’m talking about individuals denouncing this sick behaviour from their fellow Muslims.

Re Gordon Brown/ Tony Blair BBC Verify fact checked this and found that this never happened https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g2g7qgl1eo

Exactly.

@DarkAndConfusingTimes are you a brand new poster or have you name changed in order to spread far right misinformation?

Bernardscheesyhat · 11/01/2025 15:19

DarkAndConfusingTimes · 11/01/2025 14:16

@Snatherwang But it’s not just what I’m seeing on twitter, like I said I know two girls in real life, & heard of others through friends.

This is a real issue, not just something made up to stir up tensions by a far right bot or minority. It’s an actual chronic and widespread problem in many of our towns that’s been going on for over a generation.

It’s a stretch to say individuals outraged on social media are automatically ‘far right’ surely? Your dismissive viewpoint strikes me as quite dangerous and naive.

Edited

I work right in inner city Birmingham and I don’t know of any gang rape cases so ‘chronic and widespread’ is overblown. However, I do see problems. I see Asian men hassling girls in bars and clubs, passing comments on what they’re wearing etc. During the election I saw Asian males hassling women at polling stations and trying to influence their votes. I think if we could be a little less hyperbolic we could have proper discussions about all of these problematic behaviours towards women, from the least serious leering and hassling all the way up to rape and grooming, they are part of the same thing.

As so many others have said, you are talking in the vast majority of cases about British people. You can’t ’send them back’ . We have to think about integration, education and clamping down on certain practises. I would ban faith schools for example. We also need to remember that British Muslim is not a singular identity. They are as varied in their beliefs and practices as the rest of UK society.

I’m talking specifically about the grooming gangs.

Not going to engage with the whataboutery. It is derailing and I’m beginning to think it is intentional.

Why are you only concerned about CSA when brown people do it? There are white grooming gangs too.

JRSKSSBH · 11/01/2025 15:20

Startingagainandagain · 11/01/2025 14:10

OP your logic is flawed. You assume these men were not born in Britain.

Many will be British citizen of Pakistani background.

Are you also prepared for us to welcome back the British prisoners who are currently in foreign jails and pay for their jail time here? or people like Shamima Begum?

Because if you want to send back non UK citizen who commit of crime to their country of origin, you also need to realise it will mean taking back British prisoners who are currently serving time abroad.

Qari Rauf and Adil Khan held dual British-Pakistani citizenship but renounced their Pakistani citizenship days before a court appeal again Hone Office attempt to deport them.

Reported in yesterday paper, child-sex criminals have run up £2 million legal bill on legal aid. Surely there should be a cap?

Are you asking the same of Christians?

PoodleFaceAche · 11/01/2025 15:20

It's the misogynistic white policemen that are the real problem here.

ZestyLemonBiscuit · 11/01/2025 15:20

This is a terrifying Twitter thread on paedophiles and grooming

https://x.com/ShaykhSulaiman/status/1877077909199864068?

Always wary of misinformation on there now. However, the silence on this from the usual suspects shows a lot about what they really care about.

If anyone happened to catch the journalist on the News Agents podcast who covered the original trials and exposé, he was incredibly compelling in his account of the initial difficulties covering grooming gangs.

The recent move by the opposition to ruin the latest bill to protect children is incredibly shameful. I wonder if it is to distract for the problems in their own community?

I’m talking about individuals denouncing this sick behaviour from their fellow Muslims.

Why should a Muslim who is appalled by the actions of another Muslim have to apologise or denounce their behaviour just because they are also a Muslim?

What's a suitable denouncement that would appease you? A Facebook post? A daily Facebook post? Weekly? Should they take out a half page advert in the local newspaper? Should all white men have done the same about Jimmy Savile?

Such nonsense.

Do you know any Muslims? Of course they denounce it!

Would you like someone to come to your door and say "How terrible"?

DarkAndConfusingTimes · 11/01/2025 14:59

That’s fine, I have nothing in my eyes to be worried about regarding the HQ. Look at the poll - it’s overwhelmingly in my favour?

Issues like this need debate, not silencing.

I can only assume your poll results (congratulations?) are because of people agreeing that immigrants associated with thee grooming scandal should be deported. I agree completely.

The problem remains that there generally aren't any.

firef1y · 11/01/2025 15:22

Adamante · 11/01/2025 13:52

Couldn’t agree more. Any migrant convicted of such crimes should be returned to country or origin as a standard part of their sentence. I cannot comprehend why this is even controversial.

It's not controversial, in fact it's actually what happens, after they've served their sentence.

Do you expect the same from other communities where similar crimes have been commited eg Cornwall, Kent etc?

Or just Muslim/British-Pakistani communities?

Any culturally specific behaviour that emerges that is harmful needs to be addressed by the culture involved.

Do you expect all individual Christians to denounce all the Catholic Church’s grommers and abusers daily? And the KKK… they claim to be Christian.

I don't like where society is heading right now. The backlash to being 'woke' is really biting. As if kindness is a bad thing.

So you do have evidence that Tony Blair and Gordon Brown said this or are you just unbelievably credulous? You do realise that the neither the Prime Minister or the Chancellor cannot order the police not to investigate a reported crime?

Tony Blair/Gordon Brown as far back as the early 2000’s informed the police forces across the country that the children found with these men were to be ignored, so that is why we don’t have accurate statistics on this.

And you've got evidence to prove this?

Please link to it so we can see if that is the case.

Because this report does have data. Important data that states that over 80% of child sex abuse perpetrators are white.

And that a child sex abuser is more likely to be a parent or other family member than a gang.
