To send them home? (trigger warning grooming gangs)

The Rape and Grooming scandal is blowing up on twitter/social media and the extent of the scandal is actually mind boggling. Apparently up to 250,000 girls may have been affected 😱

This initially shocked me but when I thought of it, although I’m based in a rural area I know of two girls who have been caught up in it - one of whom in my class at school was raped in a park aged around thirteen and another family friends daughter found naked in a room with a group of adult men at the age of 14 and was blamed for leading them all on. Those living in towns/cities must see so much more of this?!

I’ve also heard today that Pakistan is willing to take back criminals convicted in the Uk of these crimes (UK-Pakistan Prisoner treaty agreement) and has been for a number of years but we’re not sending them back. I know not all perpetrators are Pakistani and not all Pakistani men are capable of such evil (and I work with plenty of decent Pakistani men), but of those who are convicted and born there why on earth are they still here in the UK if we can remove them as a danger from our society and their home country is willing to take them?

In have two daughters and I’m honestly terrified for their future given this significant threat to young girls in this country. It seems like no one cares enough to rock the boat.

YABU - No they should remain here and we should deal with it
YANBU - They should be sent back

I don't like where society is heading right now. The backlash to being 'woke' is really biting. As if kindness is a bad thing.

It's not kindness to defend child rapists.

Couldn’t agree more. Any migrant convicted of such crimes should be returned to country or origin as a standard part of their sentence. I cannot comprehend why this is even controversial.

Agreed. I care not a jot what country they came from, what religion they have (if any) or the colour of their skin.
For the people saying ‘where do we send British born rapists to?’
This is an illogical argument. They obviously get imprisoned here.

The girls in Pakistan need protection too.

They're in enough danger already by living there without the added burden of others being dumped.

Mrsdyna · 11/01/2025 15:27

Why do so many posters on here want to defend these men?

Nobody is defending the vile specimens of humanity who perpetrated unimaginable violations upon so many vulnerable children.

They are pointing out this thread is suggesting that a vast number of Pakistani immigrants are involved in said scandal, and it's not true.

WaryPeer · 11/01/2025 15:29

Efacsen · 11/01/2025 15:27

So why aren't you calling for Cornish people to do the same?

Sure. Add them to the list.

Animatic · 11/01/2025 15:29

multicolouredbunting · 11/01/2025 14:21

Absolutely 100% agree with sending all foreign nationals who commit a crime back to their country of origin. (Over 10,000 in UK prisons from gov statistics)

And every UK national is to come back and serve their time here. Including Begum. It's quite hard to find numbers for how many UK prisoners abroad, but gov publications numbers show under 1500 are being supported by a charity in UK.

If that's roughly the number then it's a win win. As it would free up spaces in our prisons also.

I'm not sure what the argument against it is?

Agree, but you can't guarantee these peopl won't be released the moment they land back in their countries of origin.

Abitofalark · 11/01/2025 15:29

Has it been mentioned that there is already a prisoner transfer scheme for foreign prisoners which means they could be allowed to to complete their sentence in their country of origin if they have served half their sentence here?
I don't know whether this applies to only certain countries or what the detailed arrangements are.

The vile murderer of Joanna Yeates in 2010, a Dutchman, tried to get sent back there. He didn't succeed but did manage to get transferred from a maximum security prison to a lower security one here. That appears to be based on his conduct as a prisoner.

OP, the point is you have associated immigrants with the grooming gangs, which is untrue.

Thank you for pointing this out.

I wish Mumsnet would clamp down on these goady racist threads.

Why? As a society, we have spent 25 years avoiding this conversation. It needs to be had. If it makes you uncomfortable, move on to another thread. It isn’t goady to wonder why men of Pakistani heritage are disproportionately involved in this grooming/ rape gang phenomenon. It is a huge scandal. Underage children trafficked for sex, chosen by their abusers because of their race and their vulnerability/ disadvantage. Local police, councils and social services turned a blind eye.

I've said for years that the Human Rights legislation should have a sliding scale, my human rights as a law abiding citizen should exceed those of a criminal. The bit about being allowed to stay in order to have 'a family life' should be scrubbed out completely.

DarkAndConfusingTimes · 11/01/2025 14:16

@Snatherwang But it’s not just what I’m seeing on twitter, like I said I know two girls in real life, & heard of others through friends.

This is a real issue, not just something made up to stir up tensions by a far right bot or minority. It’s an actual chronic and widespread problem in many of our towns that’s been going on for over a generation.

It’s a stretch to say individuals outraged on social media are automatically ‘far right’ surely? Your dismissive viewpoint strikes me as quite dangerous and naive.

Edited

It has been going on for at least 60 years to my knowledge and probably for several hundred years. Vulnerable young girls are exploited by evil men. Of course until the last few decades it was mainly white men. Until about 30 years ago it was usual to blame the girls rather than the groomers or pimps - for being "promiscuous". And apart from the procurers the men were hardly blamed at all. It is good we are tackling the problem, but it is not new.

Why do so many posters on here want to defend these men?

Where are people defending them?

People are pointing out it's not really achievable to deport British people from Britain. That's not defending criminals. It's explaining that they need to face justice in the UK.

LizzieSiddal · 11/01/2025 15:33

Asian men commit 3.9% of sex crimes. I don’t understand why there is so much focus on these men. I want attention on 100% of sex crimes, I have 2 DDs and want them and every other child totally protected, so we need action to prevent ALL sex crimes.

DarkAndConfusingTimes · 11/01/2025 15:34

Didntask · 11/01/2025 15:16

I agree with both. Send immigrant law breakers back to their country, and don't take away the passport of a British born girl who was also groomer.

I do actually believe the majority were sadly born here and are British-Pakistani, but my question was if they were born abroad and convicted then why are they still here when we have treaties in place? There are several members of the Rotherham rapists who have since being released that should have been deported but haven’t (Qari Abdul Rauf for starters, the gang leader).

For those asking for sources for my earlier comment regarding Blair/Brown, I dare you to watch this South Yorkshire review in full and see what you think and tell me I’m definitely wrong for thinking the police were at best turning a blind eye, or worse still, complicit in what was going on.

All paedophiles that target children need locking up in prison regardless of colour or religion! If any are not British born then deport them. We all want our children to be safe regardless of colour or religion.

Absolutely. The rapists have more rights that their victims.

Do you understand that these people weren't born abroad? There is no treaty to enable sending second or third-generation immigrants 'back' anywhere.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure a pp said Pakistani people werent Muslim! They are 97% Muslim.

Do you think if the perpetrators of the 250,000 girls likely affected were prosecuted it would still be 3.9%? And since the UK is less than 10% Asian that figure isn't as low as it sounds.
