To ask my partner to walk me to the bus stop?

eightsaie · 11/01/2025 09:55

I'm heading into town
The bus stop is a minute walk around the corner but it's really icy outside and my shoes have no grip at all.
I fell over yesterday and got a bit of a shock.
I'm going to grab some better footwear in town.
I said to my partner do you mind walking me to the bus stop so I can hold on to you just incase I fall.
He kicked off saying who walks him back home?
So I get to the bus stop with no thought for him etc etc
Anyway I said it's okay il just walk around myself-if I fall I fall
Aibu to ask him?
He says it's his only day off

Are you old or vulnerable?

Completelyjo · 11/01/2025 09:57

It’s a bit unnecessary really unless you’re 9 months pregnant or 80.
How are you going to get about during the day on your own if you can’t walk to the bus stop 1 minute away mid morning?

MinorGodhead · 11/01/2025 09:57

Put a pair of rough socks over your shoes if it’s only a minute.

eightsaie · 11/01/2025 09:57

The town is totally gritted
My shoes have no grip and I can't even put a foot in front of other

Surely town will be icy too?

Do you desperately need to go out today?

Calochortus · 11/01/2025 09:58

A pair of old socks will do the trick over your shoes. Edited to add I see a PP has said the same, the sock trick is great.

TheChosenTwo · 11/01/2025 09:58

For a walk of a minute I’d just suck it up and go very carefully. I’m a bit agog that you’ve asked him to walk you a minute down the road I must say!
the likelihood is that if you slip he’ll be pulled down with you - what’s the sense in that?

ChristmasGrinch24 · 11/01/2025 09:58

Simple, stay at home today until it's less Icey.

LandSharksAnonymous · 11/01/2025 09:58

If you're going to trip and it's that icy...the force of your trip might well make him trip. Really bad idea to be holding onto anyone for support when it's icy tbh.

JimHalpertsWife · 11/01/2025 09:59

Do you need to go out then? Who is holding you as you walk to the shop?

MJDecember24 · 11/01/2025 09:59

This is a you problem, rather than a him problem. Why do you have any shoes that can be worn in poor weather?

HappyPanda613 · 11/01/2025 09:59

What a gentleman.

BlueMum16 · 11/01/2025 09:59

Do you need to go out?

Do you only have one pair of shoes? Nothing else with more grip?

Guavafish1 · 11/01/2025 10:00

get better shoes

SevenWeeks · 11/01/2025 10:00

My DH offered to walk me to work last week when I was saying I was worried about falling, but I told him not to bother as all it would mean would be both of us going over!

I was OK in the end - just take your time and be careful where you tread, if it's safe and the road has been gritted, walk on the road facing traffic.

Devilsmommy · 11/01/2025 10:00

Bloody hell anyone would have thought you'd asked him to give you a piggyback all the way to town with that reaction. My DH would never refuse such a tiny request and then be a complete twat about it. You were not bu to ask at all

Whyherewego · 11/01/2025 10:00

Does he have good shoes for the weather? Otherwise what's the point as he won't be stable either.
Have you a stick or broom you can use ?

TenThousandSpoons · 11/01/2025 10:00

YANBU. A loving partner would do this without a second thought.

edwinbear · 11/01/2025 10:01

On the face of it, you really should be fine to walk yourself to a bus stop a minute away and just be really careful. However, given it is just a minute and you fell over yesterday, it’s really not putting your DH out at all, to stick his shoes on and walk you round. My DH would probably roll his eyes at me a bit in the same situation, but would absolutely have done it if I was worried. Tbh 15yr old DS would also if I asked, although he’d think I was a bit wet!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/01/2025 10:02

Are you for real?! Surely this is a joke? You’ve just set feminism back about 3000 years.

bestcatlife · 11/01/2025 10:04

I understand the only 1 minute walk part, but it's the 'kicking off' I'm not keen on. So YANBU ...

RichardMarxisinnocent · 11/01/2025 10:04

Echoing the advice to put a pair of socks on over your shoes to walk to the bus stop.

Emilianoo · 11/01/2025 10:06

My DH would have offered. The first replies on this thread don't surprise me though. I dont think you were wrong to ask, if he had better shoes and not likely to fall.

Werp · 11/01/2025 10:06

If you’re old, ill or disabled then fair enough. If not then very weird and probably not an isolated demand.
