I saw something on tiktok today that said 'Carrie was to Big what Janice was to Chandler' 👀👀😬

I rewatch it all the time tbh, it's my fave show but now that Gen Z have found it, there are a lot of hot takes available online

What do people think of Carrie, now that 20 years have passed? Who's your fave? x

I loved it then, love it now. Won't out myself but I was on it at one point. Nothing earth shattering. I'm not a celebrity.

I never liked Miranda. Samantha was the best.

I know SJP has been ranked over the coals for being a mean girl but as someone working in the industry at that time her reputation was always polite and kind. My own interactions with her were lovely.

She is cheap as anything mind you! Lol She grew up extremely poor though in a huge family so I suppose that is why.

She's lovely though, funny, and eccentric.

I find the constant bullying of her looks really sad. She's a teeny tiny woman with a very warm presence.

Omg this is the gossip I crave in life 😄😄😄

Yeah she's not a hit online as everyone is team Kim catrall - did you ever meet her? 😍

She doesn't deserve to be bullied though - and as much as gen z hates carrie, it shouldn't be aimed at sjp. Plus I still love csrrie, annoying as she is

A great line from Samantha. Surly surpassed by 'if I worried what every bitch in New York was saying about me, I'd never leave the house' 😂😂😂

😄 yeah love that one

I have so much love and affection for it. I also appreciate the huge flaws in it and particularly some horrendous treatment of race, bisexuality and trans-issues. But I think what it set out to do and delivered on was really good and important for women. I don't include the films on my assessment and I really hate how they made Carrie so schmaltzy in the end. But I love it.

Carrie season 5 onwards wasn't enjoyable for me

No. How does anyone arrive at that?

Charlotte didn't want to sell the ring or have it remade, in the wedding band boneyard I think they called it - so she opted to give it to Carrie instead. It's rather beautiful. Her engagement ring helped out a friend.

Because Carrie had marched round to Charlotte to guilt trip her for not offering the money in the Chinese restaurant (when Sam and Miranda did) and then berated her for wearing her ring, telling her she’d been given everything on a plate.

Some time later, Charlotte gives Carrie the ring…

NigelHarmansNewWife · 10/01/2025 22:31

It's very much of its time.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 10/01/2025 22:32

EmeraldRoulette · 10/01/2025 21:45

I don't like Carrie but she absolutely did not force the sale of the ring. If that's what you got from that beautifully scripted episode, I don't know what to say. 🤦🏽‍♀️

it's of it's time. But it was well scripted, realistic in the portrayal it was going for, and I worked in NY for the last two seasons and saw the odd scene being filmed. The writers said they were going for the city as a character and they did that really well.

People used to gather in bars to watch the latest episode on a big screen. It really is excellent writing in sitcom land. They were always careful about balancing upsetting things with humour and they did that so well.

whenever I see threads about TV shows, I think I should start a duplicate thread on the Creative Writing section here (but in reality I should spend less time here!) I think those takes would be really interesting. The characters are so well crafted.

Sorry i didnt see this.

ohh I didn't like that carrie had a go at her about the ring! It was a good episode though and chsrlotte is so sweet

I think she should've just taken big's money as he was so wealthy but I agree that I wouldn't advise a friend to do that

I think it's a great show and holds up so well, like friends. Yes, some references and comments are dated but I love it

Re Miranda and the pube shaming; having pubic hair is one thing but having your bush on display because it can’t be contained by your bathing suit is quite another.

I loved Samantha - I could be on death row and not have that situation 😂

And that hurts someone else............how?

nookmiles · 10/01/2025 22:33

I loved it the first time around and rewatched it again a few years ago when I was pregnant and suffering with insomnia so started watching it again at 2am 😂

The first film was good as it helped wrap up some storylines and give some follow up to the original series. The second film was just absolutely awful and should never have been made!

I watched 'And just like that' recently and actually enjoyed it. It was nice to see what the group were doing in their lives all these years later. Didn't like Che/Miranda storyline but I did like Lisa and Salma as new characters.

Yes some jokes and stories haven't aged well from the original SATC but it's still a good nostalgic watch, for me it'll always have that nostalgic charm. Even the things like ringing each other on a landline - something most of us never do anymore.
Always liked the clothes too!

Yeah carrie was in the wrong here. Charlotte was so sweet and I felt bad for her

I still want Samantha's land-line phone 🤭

I love it, it's definitely my comfort show, which used to be greys anatomy, but this is less depressing

Loved the original SATC but am less fussed on the reboot. Charlotte was probably my favorite colour but still loved her.

Loved it in its day. I see it from time to time now and cringe a bit. I could not stand Miranda at any point and still feel the same. Charlotte and Samantha I still like. Carrie I've gone from like to loathe.

😄 people really loathe carrie, you're not alone

That scene when she brings the ‘girls’ to ‘the Russians ‘ apartment to see his light installation was just so much second hand embarrassment I suppose that was well done

Loved it then, love it now. I loved the Big/Carrie storyline. The films were good fun, very different to the up and downs in the series.

MadmansLibrary · 10/01/2025 22:43

Agree with previous posters, Carrie kicked off at Charlotte and made her feel bad about the engagement ring. Charlotte was very clear that it wasn't a good idea to mix money and friendship. She was a shit friend, especially for her frequent slut shaming of Samantha.

I loved the original series but fuck me, I couldn't watch it now.

The blow job episode! Who did she think she was!

Plus struggling with the bi guy - i think a lot of women wouldn't be in to it, but she was judgy

I watched it but I always kind of didn't like it. Which doesn't make sense I know. It wasn't even a love/hate relationship it was just kind of 'meh'. Disliked Charlotte the most for being too girly and prissy and, at times, a bit pathetic. Carrie was just annoying and I couldn't understand why the hell she would be chasing big when he treated her like shit. Samantha was a bit much at times although she could be funny. So, by default, miranda was my favourite. But I don't think I particularly liked her either.

Never watched the films as they looked shit. Couldn't stomach watching it now I don't think.

Charlottes comments when she found out Samantha had shagged her brother

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 10/01/2025 22:48

I did meet and work with her several times. She is one the nicest actors I have worked with. Incredibly down to earth.

The only two actors who topped her in my experiences were Drew Barrymore (she is exactly who she appears to be. I would have brought her home to live with me if I could).

And Jeff Goldblum. That man makes you feel like the most important person on earth. He has a bloody gift. Sadly he did not fall madly in love with me. Lol

No I don't think she was Big's Janice as he married her

I liked it. Without considering how realistic it was or dissecting the characters or themes it was a really good tv show. I could watch the whole thing again.

It feels like he settled for her though 🥺

With the whole wedding fiasco and then in film 2, wanting time off from their marriage

And I wonder whether if there was no Monica, Chandler would've just given in and married Janice whilst sarcastically resenting her the whole time

That is me overthinjing great tv though
