I saw something on tiktok today that said 'Carrie was to Big what Janice was to Chandler' 👀👀😬

I rewatch it all the time tbh, it's my fave show but now that Gen Z have found it, there are a lot of hot takes available online

What do people think of Carrie, now that 20 years have passed? Who's your fave? x

No way would Carrie have voted Trump! They were all clearly Democrats, even if Charlotte might have started off Republican 😆 Carrie would have so been a Hillary girl.

I once tried to read 4 Blondes - at the time Candace Bushnell books were always being given away for free with magazines (Gen Zers missed the era of the fashion magazine which is partly what formed the culture of the show…and in the early 2000s women’s magazines were a big deal, with a kind of free gift war going on - free books, free CDs, free beach totes, free clothes - I still have an excellent All Saints vest that came free with Elle in about 2005…<sigh>) Anyway, I found Bushnell’s actual writing impossible to get into. It’s written in a really odd style and it’s really hard to keep track of the narrative - not like the TV show at all.

That's interesting BTW about women's magazines...I do sometimes wish they were a Gen Z thing. I guess it's better for the planet, but online magazines just don't have the same feel.. Esp envious of the free gift war- my grandmother has a huge amount of free DVDs she got from various papers in the early 2000s, I'd wondered why they were all raining freebies then...😂

Haven't RTFT.

I absolutely love it. I was a latecomer to it because I was a child/teen when it aired. I've rewatched it so many times.

This is a controversial opinion, but I don't think Carrie is any worse than the other characters (one of the main points of the show was that these were supposed to be real, flawed women not perfect princesses), she's just hated more because she's attractive, is the central character, wears the best outfits on the show, has a cracking body, and a fabulous lifestyle.

I also think people get confused about the format of the show. It was not a show about 4 friends. It was a show about Carrie (who is also the narrator) and her 3 friends. So while it seems like she is more self-centred than the others, she isn't, it's just the show is focused on her as she is the main character.

Completely agree @Crushed23

My God those women on that podcast are silly. Ok I'm a lot older than them, but I'm listening to them chastising Charlotte for being upset about her partner calling her a
' fing whore' or ' fing' birch when he comes, and they're saying that this is totally normal now and it's just like having sex in the missionary position! Well no it's not. God I hate this stupid ' sex positivity' movememt, which is really driven by hard core porn and which so many young women have bought into. We should NOT be normalizing this!

What podcast? 👀👀

I dunno, she was being precious about a bit of dirty talk but tbf it wasn't really consensual

Loved it at the time. A bit like some episodes of friends, and then when you realised that in Don't Forget Your Tooothbrush' they WEIGHED women and nobody said anything, and Bridget Jones was fat at 9 stone, you do wonder what the fuck we were all doing in the nineties! SATC was good at the time as it allowed, we thought, a different take in women and sex. Was a mainstream show when women were allowed to be sexual. When you look back though they were really saying there was something wrong with you if you weren't married. But all media is a product of its time. The worse thing for me is that Big LEFT HER AT THE ALTER and she forgave him and married him and we were meant to think this was a happy ending. Hmmmmm.
