I saw something on tiktok today that said 'Carrie was to Big what Janice was to Chandler' 👀👀😬

I rewatch it all the time tbh, it's my fave show but now that Gen Z have found it, there are a lot of hot takes available online

What do people think of Carrie, now that 20 years have passed? Who's your fave? x

The fashion was iconic but the shoes could be hit and miss for me. I love this tweet 😂

😄😄😄 at times I do just think - they're just shows, the outfit is a far more interesting thing

😄😄🥺 there's a quote that she says that Gen z love

'Men, I may not know but
Shoes, shoes in know' which is met with laughter - thats how i picture your reaction 😄

Edited

I looove the jacket she’s wearing in that gif.

@EmeraldRoulette

You don't think Carrie got Charlotte to give her that money?

No. How does anyone arrive at that?

Charlotte didn't want to sell the ring or have it remade, in the wedding band boneyard I think they called it - so she opted to give it to Carrie instead. It's rather beautiful. Her engagement ring helped out a friend.

Bumble6 · 10/01/2025 22:13

I loved it and rewatched all the series a couple of years ago. Yes some of it seems very dated now but the script then was very good and it was worth watching just for the fashion.
People often say old shows like SATC, Friends etc seem terrible now for various reasons, but for me watching them now reminds me of an easy, carefree time in my life and I loved rewatching it for the nostalgia.

needhelpwiththisplease · 10/01/2025 22:14

I adored the fashion, shoes the makeup.
The way they shot New York was just perfect.
It was of it's time and I remember it fondly

Ladybyrd · 10/01/2025 22:15

Loved it in its day. I see it from time to time now and cringe a bit. I could not stand Miranda at any point and still feel the same. Charlotte and Samantha I still like. Carrie I've gone from like to loathe.

sorechalfonts · 10/01/2025 22:15

That scene when she brings the ‘girls’ to ‘the Russians ‘ apartment to see his light installation was just so much second hand embarrassment I suppose that was well done

If my mate spent 40k on shoes. I wouldn't be giving her my engagement ring as well 😅

Sell the shoes!

A friend wouldn't accept it, let alone expect it, which Carrie very obviously did.

It hasnt aged well............particularly when Miranda gets shamed for simply having pubic hair

It hasn't aged well. Whereas rewatching Friends is a joy.

Not a patch on ‘The Sopranos’

Samantha was funny. But when I saw it again recently it just seemed really cringe. I guess it hasn't aged particularly well.

The thing was I just can't imagine anyone on earth actually genuinely identifying with any of the characters. They were like cartoons almost.

That whole thing of 'which one are you?' Erm, well I'm not an overblown depiction of a narcissist, I'm not an ageing slapper, I'm not a stuck up prude and I'm not a closet lesbian. And I don't have a seemingly endless stream of cash to spend on clothing and cocktails. Nor am I obsessed with talking about blow jobs in high end Manhattan nightclubs. 🤣

It was just trying so hard to be 'aspirational'.
You could tell that though the original author was female, this programme was definitely created and directed by men.

Saveusernames · 10/01/2025 22:12

Was it about friendship tho? Were they supportive of each other - or did they all just meet up to discharge on each other about their sex/romantic lives?

Did they ever have fun and frolics as friends where they were not preoccupied with the men in their lives?

At least in part. It's also about fashion, sex and NYC.

They were friends. There were a lot of things they did that suggested a friendship beyond just comparing relationship stories.... even Samantha acted as a friend to Miranda when Brady was born when she gave up her hair appointment and babysat!

I do think Carrie was the one who brought them all together though.

unlikelywitch · 10/01/2025 22:22

Re Miranda and the pube shaming; having pubic hair is one thing but having your bush on display because it can’t be contained by your bathing suit is quite another.

I loved Samantha - I could be on death row and not have that situation 😂

I agree

As much as they've aged badly in terms of politics, I think they still hold up as being timeless shows

The bush was completely coming out of her costume! 😄

She didn't want Steve, I'm so sorry, she viewed him as being lucky to have her due to her being a lawyer and him a bartender/owner 😬😬

Yeah she was the glue as they were all so different otherwise

Charlotte and sam made me smile when they'd get along - Samantha was such a sweet friend as much as she had her quirks

I enjoyed it as a late teen. I liked the friendship. Carrie was not a good person but I quite liked a show where the women didn’t care that they weren’t really good people.

I very much dislike the lazy misogyny that derides an interest in shoes or fashion as vacuous.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 10/01/2025 22:24

I loved it then, love it now. Won't out myself but I was on it at one point. Nothing earth shattering. I'm not a celebrity.

I never liked Miranda. Samantha was the best.

I know SJP has been ranked over the coals for being a mean girl but as someone working in the industry at that time her reputation was always polite and kind. My own interactions with her were lovely.

She is cheap as anything mind you! Lol She grew up extremely poor though in a huge family so I suppose that is why.

She's lovely though, funny, and eccentric.

I find the constant bullying of her looks really sad. She's a teeny tiny woman with a very warm presence.

Pointpoint · 10/01/2025 22:26

I never got into it first time round as I never liked Carrie. I really struggle with her character

I really loved it back in the day and I really loved the re-boots. I never actually liked any of the characters, I thought they were all awful.

A great line from Samantha. Surly surpassed by 'if I worried what every bitch in New York was saying about me, I'd never leave the house' 😂😂😂
