Sorry name changed as I’m mortified.

I was having a clear out for the new year and gathered four bags of clothes and toys etc for charity shop.

Last night I started taking the bags to the shed and heard noise coming from next doors garden and I was worried that someone was in there that shouldn’t be so I stood on a patio chair to look over the fence. Neighbour was in the hot tub with a man I didn’t recognise (I thought she was single!). The bloke looked up and saw me and I didn’t know what to say so when neighbour looked up I asked her if she would take the bags to charity shop for me. I have no idea why I said that, even as the words were coming out I was mortified at what I was saying. She looked a bit confused but said she’d do it so I asked her if I should bring them around and she said “well, not now” and gestured towards the man. He started laughing and she then said “just leave them in your shed for now?”

im beyond embarrassed, I just can’t believe I said that to her not to mention the embarrassment of being seen peering over the bloody fence.

please tell me I’m over thinking it. I’ve felt sick all day just thinking about it.

If you haven't already gone, take a bottle of wine 🍷 to lighten the apology.

hiddeneverythin · 06/01/2025 20:03

I am crying so much at this. Hilarious! Op please update us with what you did in the end. And be prepared when you go round that random man might be there again….

allmymonkeys · 06/01/2025 20:36

Laughing too hard to type.

"Just wondered if you'd mind taking my charity bags to the shop..."

Oh bless you. Thank you, thank you, I so needed this today.

Winterskyfall · 06/01/2025 20:49

OP please update us, have you contacted your neighbour? Or did you decide to emigrate instead?

MsDitsy · 06/01/2025 21:29

This is so so funny. If you think you will trip over your words again, print this out, take a bottle of wine round like another poster said and ask her when she is taking your stuff to the charity shop😂.....kidding, I bet she finds it funny though. If she doesn't, you'll have to move 😂

Efrogwraig · 06/01/2025 22:41

This time next year this will be one of your dining out stories. For now do what everyone else says. Apologise with wine, flowers etc.

laraitopbanana · 07/01/2025 07:26

Sounds like a movie start?

🤣🫣

Jennaxoxox · 07/01/2025 13:08

I really don't think it's that deep. Just tell her you thought there was someone creeping about🤣🤣 if you peeked over my fence, and then said that you thought there was a prowler, I would def laugh 🤣

SleeplikeababyTonight · 07/01/2025 13:22

🤣😂That's given me a good laugh. Thanks, op. You should have just said, "Oh, sorry to disturb you, I heard a noise and was worried it was an intruder, then "I'll leave you to it, sorry again!" She may have thought you were getting at her about making too much noise in the hot tub, but better that, than asking her to take bags to the charity shop!! Or "Oh sorry, I didn't know you were there.I was looking to see if my friends cat was in your garden, because it's gone missing! I'll leave you to it!"
Hindsight is a great thing though, and you were caught off guard, as were they!
I think you need to tell her the truth, or it'll look CF-ish, and that you were infact intruder.

MyJoyousBiscuit · 07/01/2025 13:26

I think this is one of those situations that you have to 'own'. Just be completely honest (maybe leave out this thread though eh :)) she'll probably see the funny side and it may just bring you closer. You looked out for a neighbour and said stupid shit, it's fiiiine.

SleeplikeababyTonight · 07/01/2025 13:26

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 05/01/2025 20:54

I totally agree. Take a bottle of wine over, come clean and have a laugh about it together … “Bloody hell Wilma, I’m so embarrassed about last night. Of course I don’t want you to take the stuff to the charity shop for me, I just opened my mouth and those were the words that fell out. Your new bloke seems nice though!”

No, definitely do not mention the man! She'll think op was having a bit of a peeping tom moment! 😂

Me too! You can almost hear the panic and confusion. I'd love this lady as my neighbour. A- Mazing.

Lostcat · 07/01/2025 13:31

Hahahah sorry OP but I can’t stop laughing 😂😂😂

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 07/01/2025 13:35

This is exactly the kind of awkward thing that I would say.

Stick a note through her door explaining with the offer of a cup of tea if she’s not too freaked out. It might be the start of a great friendship.

Seebothsides60 · 07/01/2025 13:42

So funny, like something out a sitcom🤣🤣 As been said..go to neighbours door...tell her the story as you have on here...99% sure she'll laugh. If not, thens shes had a sense of humour bypass😀 In future if you here any noises from next door then maybe ignore🤣🤣🤣

Mommy2cy · 07/01/2025 14:00

You're definitely overthinking. This post does not require a fake name haha

Ceecee2422 · 07/01/2025 14:00

This is so funny 🤣🤣🤣 I agree with just tell her, she’ll probably think you’re slightly odd but worse things have happened in the world lol

Packetofcrispsplease · 07/01/2025 14:41

🤣 I think I’d just knock on the door and tell her you thought there was an intruder up to no good in her garden and that you don’t make a habit of standing on chairs looking into gardens 🤣
she is probably just finding it funny

Why am I imagining Mrs Bucket peering over the fence? 😂

JollyZebra · 07/01/2025 15:33

Just explain why you looked over the fence and why you spoke as you did. They probably had a good laugh afterwards at her bonkers neighbour, so you might as well join in and enjoy it!
We've all had red-faced, "wish the ground would swallow me up" moments. 😂

ColinOfficeTrolley · 07/01/2025 15:40

Omg crying 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

Chickenpuppet · 07/01/2025 16:31

Oh my Goodness someone who has the same sort.of life experiences as me. I am going to laugh about for days. Please just tell her or write her a note.
This is excellent sit-com material.
You are very human and have made my day

zingally · 07/01/2025 17:03

That's so funny!

Go round and talk to her. I'm sure she'll see the funny side!

TicklishMintDuck · 07/01/2025 18:43

Tell her the complete truth and offer a bottle of wine. It’s really made me smile after a tough day!

Reallyneedsaholiday · 07/01/2025 18:48

OP come back ….. we all need an update on this one 😂
