Sorry name changed as I’m mortified.

I was having a clear out for the new year and gathered four bags of clothes and toys etc for charity shop.

Last night I started taking the bags to the shed and heard noise coming from next doors garden and I was worried that someone was in there that shouldn’t be so I stood on a patio chair to look over the fence. Neighbour was in the hot tub with a man I didn’t recognise (I thought she was single!). The bloke looked up and saw me and I didn’t know what to say so when neighbour looked up I asked her if she would take the bags to charity shop for me. I have no idea why I said that, even as the words were coming out I was mortified at what I was saying. She looked a bit confused but said she’d do it so I asked her if I should bring them around and she said “well, not now” and gestured towards the man. He started laughing and she then said “just leave them in your shed for now?”

im beyond embarrassed, I just can’t believe I said that to her not to mention the embarrassment of being seen peering over the bloody fence.

please tell me I’m over thinking it. I’ve felt sick all day just thinking about it.

This is the funniest thing I've read in ages!!!😆😂🤣

"Well, not now..."

TheoTurkey · 06/01/2025 01:13

Oh you poor thing.

I completely understand not saying the right thing. I disturbed a potential burglar before Christmas. He was rummaging through stuff in my porch. When I confronted him he said he was doing a survey locally (he was going through coat pockets!!). I said go away, and as he was running up the path, I said ‘I love you, but go away’

what?? I love you? I’m still mortified now

Bless you Op. my daughter caused me no end of embarrassment over the years 🤣 took her to a party bus party at about 30years old . After we had left she had decided to run off , I ran after her on wet muddy grass , I fell into a massive muddy puddle in front of a little group of teens . I phoned my sister in tears . I was cold , wet and muddy and had to walk home like it .

This really threw me, and I spent too much time trying to figure it out, and then I saw your comment below it 🤣.

lemmein · 06/01/2025 01:25

Hahaha aw op....just front it out and give her your bags of shite - that's what she gets for being too nice! Grin

It's a very 'Mr Bean' thing to do, poor you 🙈

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 06/01/2025 01:36

OMFG, I am howling. I'm trying to laugh quietly but the whole bed is shaking and I can't stop.

Best thing I've read in a long time 😂

Australianhere · 06/01/2025 01:47

I’m locked in the toilets at work crying tears of laughter at this story. OP, you’re amazing, thank you for brightening my day. And yes tell your neighbour the truth. It’s absolutely hilarious and if they don’t see that they’re the weirdo not you.

Incakewetrust · 06/01/2025 01:57

If this doesn't get an instant ticket to classics, I don't know what will 😂

FunLovingIrishRose · 06/01/2025 02:38

Absolutely hilarious! I'm still laughing 😃 😀 😄! I seriously wouldn't worry about it, sounds like she was enjoying herself with her gentlemen friend anyway and has probably forgotten all about it. Lol 😆

FunLovingIrishRose · 06/01/2025 02:51

It usually really annoys me when people quote the OP but on this thread it just gives me chance to read it again and cry laughing some more 🤣

Life’s too short to get annoyed for nought 😊

ClairDeLaLune · 06/01/2025 08:32

Ah OP this is hilarious! You have to go round and tell her. Otherwise she’ll (a) think you’re a nutter, and (b) be worrying about having to take your stuff to a charity shop! I’m sure she’ll laugh, and it could be the start of a new friendship for you both!

doitwithlove · 06/01/2025 08:32

Wow, the weather was dreadful in my area last night, why would you be in a hot tub !!!!

MurderousFrieda · 06/01/2025 08:48

I’m just trying to imagine a neighbour that I didnt know well peering over my fence at night and asking me to take stuff to charity shop for her 😂😂 it’s so random and weird!

she probably thinks you’re a perv OP, please let us know if you go around to explain 😂

ChristmasGrinch24 · 06/01/2025 08:49

😂😂 just tell her the truth, one way to break the ice op!

Goldengirl123 · 06/01/2025 09:11

Just tell her exactly what you have told us. I’m sure she will see the funny side!

LaLatina · 06/01/2025 09:25

None of this makes any sense to me. Why would you go and get a chair to look over the fence into your neighbour’s garden at night because you heard voices? Does two people in a hot tub If it had been burglars, do you think you’d have scared them off by waving a binbag at them? And why would you, when your neighbour caught you snooping, then ask her to do you a favour? Why would you recognise the man she was with if she’s single? I get that you were flustered by looking like a Peeping Tom, but do you have a history of saying things that make things far worse when caught off-guard?

Tiredofallthis101 · 06/01/2025 15:53

Flipslop · 05/01/2025 22:19

I’d think she was even more weird to follow up with a letter rather than popping round sorry 😂😂

Yes I agree better to pop round but was thinking that 1) OP's post don't suggest she's comfortable doing that and 2) if I was the neighbour and saw it was her I might not answer the door as I'd think she wanted to drop off the charity shop bags :-D Perhaps as a PP suggested, knock but also have a letter/card to hand in case she doesn't answer.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Strawberrygrower · 06/01/2025 18:41

Why would our neighbour open our bin?
While we were away on holiday over Christmas we asked our neighbour to take our wheelie bin from our garden to the pavement and return it to our garden when collected by the bin men. But on the day that the bin was colllected I spotted on the door camera that our neighbour took a bag from our bin and took it into his garage. It was then returned to the wheelie bin in time for the actual collection. I feel sick that someone opened our bin and I won’t ever trust our neighbour again. Am I being unreasonable to feel completely disturbed by this? Am I being unreasonable that I feel violated that my neighbour has looked through all my discarded rubbish?

Well, that's bizarre!

How well do you know them?

Atsocta · 06/01/2025 18:59

Just say what happened, I’m sure she will see the funny side of it, besides you were looking out for her in the first place..

Gemmawemma9 · 06/01/2025 19:12

Oh god. Honestly I don’t think anything you could say would make this less awkward or weird. Why would you even look over the fence in the first place?!! Just avoid her in future and try and bury the shame. 😂

Twinsandsome · 06/01/2025 19:38

This was just the laugh I needed today 😂
