Parking issue

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 09:22

I’m writing this post to establish if i am
being unreasonable by wanting simple (ish) access to my driveway without having to drive forwards and backwards multiple times to avoid hitting the parked van. I appreciate this isn’t a serious matter but more a frustrating one given the selfishness of the owner, who could easily park it outside his own property on his double driveway. Instead he’d rather inconvenience others. I’ve referred this to the local authorities and they will get back to me in due course. The company aren't interested as we’ve talked to the owner and they’ve said it’s a neighbourhood issue. Well, of course but it involves property of yours ! Also, if emergency services want access to our elderly neighbour to the right, they’ll never get through. Interested in sensible comments only. Thanks

I appreciate that I can still “get out” but not without difficulty. Emergency services if needed next door - can’t “get in” though.

It's annoying but there's nothing you can do about it. Emergency services just have to do their best. There are so many roads in the UK that make you wonder how emergency services/ dust carts get through, but they do. I've driven down plenty of one-way rds where cars park on both sides - really narrow, and I've had to pop my side mirrors in just to get through!!

Joelle84 · 05/01/2025 10:45

Agree emergency services would not get round in a fire engine, its far too tight. The van is parked too close to the corner. I think all you can do is take photos and report to your council.

janfebmar87 · 05/01/2025 10:45

Inconsiderate but nothing you can do. One of my neighbours has three big vans like this and larks them up and down the street. Really inconsiderate but nothing can be done

Forgive me, I can’t see a reply button, so I use the “add to post”. First time user.

Welcome! On the post you are replying to there is a button that says "quote" if you click that we can see which post you are replying to to tell them to fuck off.

Oh why do people post in aibu just to get pissy when they are told that Yes, you are indeed being unreasonable 🤣

polpolpolpol · 05/01/2025 10:48

How is it blocking emergency services getting to 'next door'?

JessiesJ99 · 05/01/2025 10:49

You seem very angry with women on here. Have you spoken to the guy?

Edited

Thanks - I wasn’t telling you to fuck off. Just the ones that clearly aren’t academic 😂

It’s too close to the corner arguably. However there is no reason not to park opposite your drive if it wasn’t on the corner! People would never get parked if we couldn’t park the opposite side of the road to a drive on roads that have loads of drives. It looks like you have a lot of room to get out, not that much manoeuvring should be required!

Emergency vehicles can get through - they will use the pavement if they have to!

So YABU.

really? With women hey! 😂

This post seems very off. I'm thinking OP is a man due to username & tone. Doesn't seem to have it in him to have it out with neighbour but more than comfortable to swear & have a go at women on MN.

Yes, most people on MN are women. I assume van driver is male?

I was getting pissy at those that were suggesting utter nonsense that I never claimed. Move on.

Sorry, it’s rather difficult to determines someone’s gender via an iPhone screen. I assumed all genders were welcome.

I wasn’t complaining per se Barbara, I was highlighting an issue. Sorry, next time I will ask my 9 year old for her crayons so i can draw something instead to appease some
nobody on the internet.

No need for crayons, but perhaps the 9yo could show you how to alter a photo to remove identifying information.

Lovelysummerdays · 05/01/2025 10:56

I didn’t think you were allowed to park so close to a corner tbh. Perhaps the council could put in double yellows.

🤣 Funny. I'm assuming I'm one of the ones you want to tell to fuck off. I'm literally an academic, that's my job.

Yes, they are. But this is not a forum for inadequate men to bully and swear at women. Have you spoken to the man to try and resolve it?

Turophilic · 05/01/2025 10:58

Snitty and unpleasant tone to people not agreeing with you, @Rick1985.

The van driver has parked rather too close to the corner. You can still get to your drive and your claim about emergency vehicles is a stretch.

Ringing the boss is a dick move however politely you couch the terms. If you wanted to resolve this like an adult you’d speak directly to the driver.

”Would you mind parking a couple of metres further up? It would make getting in and out of the drive easier and a clearer view of children on their scooters on the path. Thanks!”

However, having gone straight to their employer I’d expect the driver to give you short shrift.

Edited to add - both sexes are welcome on Mumsnet but as a female dominated site we have little patience for blokes treating us poorly. We’ve had enough of that shit in the real world and this marvellous nest of vipers won’t put up with it here.

Oh I’m sure an average 9 year old knows how to do that, Barbara. Thanks for your contribution though.

Still, the verbatim here is something to behold so to those who have provided a considered reply - thank you.

I don’t think that means what you think it means.

BallerinaRadio · 05/01/2025 10:59

You've posted on a forum asking whether or not you're being unreasonable, but seem to think anybody saying you are being unreasonable is not being 'sensible' which is a bit odd

So you turn up here as a first time user, and are rude to all the posters who reply to you and you think we are the problem.
